Mom was finally moved out of the SICU yesterday. That was encouraging for us. Now, we wait and see about the next steps.

There are so many decisions to make. We're definitely on new territory here, but the hospital staff has been very helpful, family has been great, and Mom and Dad have an amazing network of friends. We appreciate everyone's prayers and greetings and moral support so much!

I fly back to Germany on Monday and that's going to be really hard.

My dsis and I have a blog going to keep people posted on Mom's progress:

From Florida

Friday, September 05, 2008

Thank you for your comments and prayers and forgive me for not responding individually. We're spending most of our time at the hospital. Mom is making some progress and will have a second surgery today (Friday) I'll go into more details later, but do keep praying for all of us. My sister was here but could only stay two days. I've booked for a two-week stay but am already looking into the possibility of returning soon after that to be here for my parents.

As for me, the Lord has been waking me up really early so that I have some time with him and so I can get in a morning walk/run. I've been trying to make good eating choices but with restaurant and coffee shop meals, it's a challenge.

I won't be on SP much in the coming weeks except to post here on my blog. Please continue to keep us in your thoughts and prayers!

Michelle, I'm keeping you and your family in my prayers. I know you have some decisions ahead of you. Isn't it strange when we become the caregiver? I'm at that point too with my mom!

Flying Home

Sunday, August 31, 2008

I'll be flying to Florida on Tuesday. Dparents had a serious car accident and Dmom needs surgery. DDad is fine but, of course, somewhat under shock. Prayers appreciated for both of them and a safe flight, unaffected by hurricane activity, for me - l'll send an update when I can. Thank you, SP friends!

Oh Michelle how awful, I hope you can sort things out and help them navigate this unfortunate situation. I live with that fear about my parents.
I will thinking of you!

Declutter Challenge Week 4

Friday, August 29, 2008

Wrapping up the August Declutter challenge today. It's been a busy week, so I sometimes had to search for things to declutter at the last minute. That doesn't mean I'm finished with decluttering, just that I didn't have the time to start any major projects. While looking for stuff to declutter, I found some leftover, red-white-and-blue picnic utensils, some extra paper supplies, etc.) that I can use on Monday when we do our English Day for Kids at church - it's part of the community summer vacation program.

Meanwhile, at work, I continued to toss paper, too. My teaching materials - at least the ones I keep at the language school - are in much better order.

Thanks to Beth and Marcia for hosting the challenge on their blogs! www.mysimplerlife.com/blog/ and organisingtips.blogspot.com/

By the way, as part of the challenge, I won a drawing for one of Beth's e-courses on simplifying your life. So I look forward to keeping the momentum going in the weeks ahead!

Declutter Challenge Week 3

Saturday, August 23, 2008

Only 6 photos this time - I don't have a photo of the big stack of paperwork that I decluttered from my locker and binders at the language school. That felt good - and, as I was sorting and tossing, I also got some good ideas about how I can better organize my notes and teaching materials for my English students.

By the way, Ralf the Paper Shredder has already given up the ghost. I'm afraid I may have to buy df a new one!

Here's a link to Beth's blog. She's hosting the August Declutter Challenge along with Marcia: www.mysimplerlife.com/blog/

Decluttering is great and so rewarding! After a declutter session, one feels so much more lighter and free. It's funny I should run across your post today - after I decluttered our family's bathroom. It was amazing the 'stuff' that accumulated in there. I'm on vacation for another two weeks - wonder which room I will do next........

I'm checking out that blog, now, Michelle. Thank you. Next Saturday is our declutter day. It's rare for DH to be off on a Saturday, so we'll spend part of the day attacking the garage. :) I purged old clothes today and dropped them off at Good Will, that felt good, and Hana's dresser drawers can actually close now. :)

De-cluttering is a MAJOR project around our home...my son is finally moving out TOTALLY on his own...no more need to keep a shrine of his *stuff* here...lol...so after Labor Day we'll be piling up the remains for the dump or Salvation Army or whathaveyou...! It will feel SO GOOD!
