Done and Decluttering

Friday, August 08, 2008

Just finished my Old Testament final exam and feel like I did pretty well. Time for a nap before I go to praise team rehearsal in a couple of hours, but I thought I'd have some fun and post a collage of the "objets d'out" that I've gotten rid of in this first week of our decluttering challenge. I haven't had any problem finding something to give away, throw away or donate on a daily basis. I wonder if you ever get to the point where it's hard? Here's the link to the Declutter Challenge on Beth and Marcia's websites: organisingtips.blogspot.com/2008/08/

I loved the cracked pot! Isn't it great to great rid of old stuff. I love walking into my "junk" closet after decluttering it and see empty shelf space!

Good work. Glad you feel good about your exam,

Carol

New Month, New Resolve

Friday, August 01, 2008

Not to worry, this is an old picture! It's August and I'll be working on my goal list tomorrow. But one new thing this month will be a decluttering challenge that a df is doing on her blog. The goal is to declutter one item a day for the month and post about it at least once a week, either on your own blog or on hers. Next check-in is Friday, August 8.

First item to go is a dress that I suppose I could still wear but that makes me feel fat. It used to be so comfy to hide the extra kilos under this, as you can see above.

Since going back to work at the language school on Monday, I've scarcely had a chance to post! I've been tying up some of the loose ends from my various cleaning and decluttering projects, studying for my Old Testament course, and teaching a new English student (most of my regular students are on vacation). I managed to get to the gym twice, haven't been very good about FOOD, though. So I'll track again this weekend. I need to get back into the lunch-packing habit again, too. Since the microwave at work died, I've slacked off on that a bit. New month, new resolve!

Hey Michelle, I know what you mean, I got rid of some clothes too! I was given a dress the other day and it fits like a dream. It is the first time I've wore a dress without a jacket to cover up in ages!!! Feels good! I'm actually tucking my shirt tails in too!!! Isn't this fun!

Hi Michelle, yes I think we'd all identify with wearing the clothes that hide sooo much; especially if you don't have large hips, it's true you can get away with more (my experience!)
I wish you well with your decluttering...I'm the exact opposite which can work against me...where is it? I've thrown it away!!LOL!
I wish you much success during the month of August.
Blessings,
Janet.

Friday

I got a little bit of work done on the living room this morning before driving out to WN to the customs office. DMom had forgotten to write "gift" on my birthday present so I had to go open it and show them that it didn't contain diamonds or drugs. I didn't have to pay anything. Then visited a df who lives practically across the street from the office who I seldom visit because it's just too far. We had tea on her balcony - a lovely afternoon.

Now I've got some studying to do and will get back to the LR tomorrow. I know I won't get as much done as I had hoped, but I've made a start and that's what's important. My df coach is encouraging me NOT to get into that negative self-talk thing that just drains energy and doesn't bring any results. Thanks, Beth!

I got kind of bogged down in the living room today - went into the city to do some errands and got back later than planned. Now feeling a bit overwhelmed and bedtime is coming up soon. I did make a mad dash to the home store and got BOXES. I even found some storage boxes for the bedroom that are in a pretty green color like the rest of the room. The bags of throw-away, give-away and ebay-away stuff are growing, too.

Coach Beth www.mysimplerlife.com/ made some suggestions after seeing the photos I sent her of the room and I'm going to implement those tomorrow. Also at the home store, I got a new plant for the hallway - that will cheer me every time I walk by it. I also got quite a bit of studying done on the train to and from the city (Nehemiah still rebuilding those walls!). So, all in all, an OK day if not as productive as Monday and Tuesday.

Tomorrow, I'll continue to tackle the LR, currently decorated in a style I call "Early Books and Papers".

Today I got kind of bogged down in the kitchen. The visual results of my work aren't as much as in the other two rooms, but there's definitely progress been made and a couple of badly neglected spots are looking good now. I also filled half of a big trash bag and transported some stuff to the cellar - Christmas dishes and mugs don't really need to be in the cupboard all year round, do they? I didn't go to the city - I was having too much fun in the kitchen. But I do need to go in tomorrow to return a blouse that was on sale or I'll have to keep it. I won't stay long, tho.

The next two days will be busy - I'm going to start on the LR tomorrow because I'll be visiting a friend on Friday. I also need to go to the home improvement store to get boxes, but maybe that can wait till Saturday. It's clear that I'm not going to get everything done that I had hoped to, but I knew that I was going to happen. The important thing is that I've been working the plan and doing what I can without getting all too sidetracked.

The weather has finally gotten better - yay! - so I got out of the house and went for a good long Nordic walk. Inspired by a blog post by my Spark friend Michelle where she talked about peaks and valleys ( www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_jo
urnal_individual.asp?blog_id=1348783
), I took a different route than usual, and climbed up the winding trail to leads to the tops of a plateau high above the little valley where I live. Great view, saw very few people, got a super workout. I'm sure glad the summer is back!

Glad to hear the weather is better! Sounds like your home/vacation is going quickly (they always do). Although you won't be able to complete everything on your to do list, it sounds like you have made great progress! Enjoy the rest of the week and your trip to town (don't forget to have a little celebration time for your recent birthday! ;)
