A Tale of Two Blogs

Tuesday, April 13, 2010

First of all I find it hilarious that my last blog post before this was written almost a year ago and was entitled "Long Time no Blog". In the interest of originality I have chosen not to reuse that title. I actually should have saved it for another occasion, when I really needed it, like today. That'll teach me. I'll keep that lesson in mind next time I fall off the face of the planet for almost a year. I'm not planning on it but we must always keep ourselves open for the possibility of deciding to go off grid to pursue a new career as a cocktail waitress in a remote area of Tahiti. Or is all of it remote? At the very least it'll be Tahiti.

I haven't been blogging on SP for a long time. Mainly because I felt the need to only blog about health and weight on SP and also because I was really paying attention to my other mainly photography related blog. Where can you find my other blog you say? Why, it's right here, at .

So, I stayed away. Oh yeah, I was staying away from exercising too. Thankfully exercise has welcomed me back with open arms. Awesome. Thanks exercise, you rock.

Hopefully my SP blog will be just as forgiving because I've made an executive decision. My SP blog will not be JUST about my health and weight. I'm a 'stream of consciousness' kind of person so I'm just going to let it ride and write whatever I feel like writing.

That felt good. My SP blog didn't disintegrate in anger and despair so I think it'll be accepting my future ramblings. Stay tuned for musings on anything and everything including but not limited to: baked sweet potato fries, my husband (he cracks me up), bhangra dancing, my dislike of gray cubicles, photography, yummy muffin recipes, reality television, and more photography.

Long Time no Blog

Tuesday, May 19, 2009

I've been pretty busy show, movies, drives to the beach and trying to lose the poundage. My weight's been fluctuating, hence the lack of movement on my weight tracker. I'm fine though because my BMI dropped by 3 points. I know that I'm doing the right thing and since I'm not a fad diet I know that I need to be patient and keep working.

Other than that, some d-bag stole my Blackberry when we were at the Metreon (super awesome entertainment complex in the city) to see Star Trek in IMAX. It was awesome; the movie, not the stolen Blackberry; it's never bad when you see the blue eyed hunky leading man on the screen at 40 feet tall. So, back to the stolen electronics. Really dude? You can't leave something alone that's not yours? How hard is that? Luckily it was a company phone and a new one has already been ordered. So, off the soap box about theft.

Did I say that you should all see Star Trek because Mr. Hottie Hotterson (I don't even know his name, it's not important anyway) is in it?

Sorry about your phone being stolen. It's better that it's a work phone and not your personal phone. My DH saw Star Trek, and he loved it. He's planning on seeing it again this weekend. I hope you have a great day.

The Trifecta

Tuesday, May 05, 2009

I just had an almost perfect weekend. The only thing that would've made it better was if I was one of the ticket holders that just won the lottery. True story, I was my friend and her husband, who is a Sheriff's deputy, when he got the call that two deputies from his department won $75 million on a ticket from the 7-Eleven where he used to buy a Lotto ticket every day but doesn't anymore because he's given up Rock Star. His eyes kind of glazed over. I figure that he was thinking that he would rather be all hopped up on Rock Star and rich instead of the even keeled middle class guy he's become since he kicked the habit. We were actually at a casino so there was plenty of opportunity to try again...he went back to work the next day.

So, Point Break Live on Friday. If you live in the S.F. Bay or L.A. area go see it. Right now. Seriously. Do it. Awesome show, hilarity is the rule of the evening. I got fake blood on my jeans and shoes and it was totally worth it. I've been twice and I want to go again. Excuse me while I buy tickets. We had a group of about ten people and I was stuck on the end next to someone I don't know. But, miracle of miracles...the guy was actually pretty cool. He struck up a conversation with us and agreed that the crowd didn't choose the best audience member to play Johnny Utah. Yes, each night a different member of the audience is chosen to play Keanu Reeves memorable character Johnny Utah. It's usually best if he's awkward and nervous.

Saturday really rocked the party. I FINALLY got the chance to get on my new scale. I've been on Spark People for a week and I lost 3 pounds!!!!! It's not much but Rome wasn't built in a day and neither will my super cute new bod.

Got a really good cut and color for only $56 including tip! I have curly hair. It's like kryptonite for stylists. I decided to take a chance because of our wonderful economy and instead of spending $175 on a cut and color, I went to the Paul Mitchell school and got a student to do it on the cheap. If you live in any metropolitan city that has a corporate school (Paul Mitchell, Aveda, Vidal Sassoon) give it a try. Haircuts at this school are only 8 dollars! It's a great savings if you're willing to take a chance and give up a bit more time. It can take up to two hours because the cut needs to be checked by the teachers. Luckily my cut and color took about two and a half.

Oh, but Saturday night...that was the piece de resistance. We went to see MC Hammer. Yeah, I said it, MC Hammer. Don't hate, appreciate! Did I mention that we got on stage and danced with him? Um yeah, because we did. And it was AWESOME. He said that he needed some ladies to get up on stage and help him out so we booked it up to the front. By the time everyone was up there, the whole stage was full of people and it was more like a party than a show. I'm fine with the fact that my cardio on Saturday was done to Please Hammer, Don't Hurt 'Em; Too Legit to Quit, You Can't Touch this and a ton of other '80s throwbacks.

Sunday was my mellow day. I went with a good friend for breakfast and then a photography field trip. We drove through West Marin. Every intersection brought us to the split second decision of which way to turn. We got some good shots and the ride was definitely helped by the fact that we were in a sports car. I topped off the day with Hugh Jackman's bare chest. No, he's not my secret lover. I saw the new X-Men movie which was actually pretty good, even if you're not heavy into comic books.

Now, if I could just get Wolverine to show up at my office.

I was definitely psyching myself out so that I wasn't disappointed if I didn't lose anything. I told myself that no matter what, I'm doing the right thing. Seeing results definitely makes it easier to keep going.

Ghost in the Machine

Friday, May 01, 2009

I bought a scale today. Oddly enough I'm really happy about it. We have a scale already but it's pretty janky. Yes, janky is a word. The definition listed on is "(adjective) inferior quality; held in low social regard; old and delapidated; refers almost exclusively to inanimate material objects, not to people". Sorry about the digression, I'm a stream of consciousness type of person and needed to get that out of the way to avoid all of those nagging questions about my choice of adjective for my scale.

So, moving on to the janky scale. My husband liked it because it was free and it worked for his purposes. The scale is so wrong that he probably weighs twenty pounds and doesn't even know it because the scale says two hundred fifty. This leads me to be unsure of what his purposes are.

I wanted to check the scale this morning to see if my whopping week and a half of working out and eating better has done anything. ( A few people have told me that I look like I'm losing weight which makes me super happy). I stepped on it and found that I had lost twenty six pounds. I figured that I'd side with conventional wisdom and the fact that my pants weren't falling down. I had clearly not lost twenty six pounds. A lunch time shopping mission was in order and I am not one to shirk my shopping duties.

Thanks to Bed, Bath and Beyond with some help from their 20% off coupon I now have a scale that was manufactured after 1910. Thanks to SparkPeople I was actually happy to buy it.

I recently bought a new scale myself. I didn't agree with what the old one was showing. I have never heard of the word janky. I learned something. Hope you have a great Friday.

Cubicle to Bathroom Remodel?

Tuesday, April 28, 2009

So this whole drinking at least eight glasses of water a day is great for the health. It is not great for those of us who don't have close proximity to a bathroom at the office and get so involved in work that they don't visit the bathroom until there's serious danger of ruining the office chair and leaving a puddle. As I walked towards the ladies' room each time today (close to every 5 minutes) I prayed not to see anyone I know. It would just be way too awkward to have to shove them out of the way like a lineman protecting a wide receiver while holding my knees together to prevent leakage. That is my small victory for the day; drinking 8 glasses of water without peeing on myself.

Oh yeah, and having my husband flexing and asking if I want to go to the gun show tonight was pretty awesome too. He's freakin' hilarious.
