Shock & Awe OR Yesterday I exercised for the first time in 2 Years!

So two years ago, I had my third not so successful knee surgery which left me with a sollen thigh (like I really needed that part of my body to be any more swollen!) and a swollen, bent painful knee (Go ahead and say it...I'm Hawt!)

A knee replacement may be an option but not one that I really want so my Dr. suggested that I "work through the pain" (yes, such inspiring words). So 6 months later (exercise and I don't mix - even when I had a good knee), I took the plunge.

Yesterday, my husband and I took our boys for a walk on the rail trail, I rode the stationary bike for 15 minutes ( a miracle b/c it is SO boring and I have to go SO slow), I did a 1 mile Leslie Sansone muscle mile (SO Fun) and jumped for 5 minutes on my rebounder. Considering where I've been physically for the past 2 years, this was my version of the Olympics! Oh, and I did the majority of the activities wearing patent-leather leopard print clogs (don't ask).

And today, shampoo, rinse, repeat!

FIWC Challenge

Looking Back so that I can Move Forward...

FIWC will be my third challenge with the caring, supportive, and trouble-making group of women known as the Sunny Gals - Lucky Me!

I've lost 23 pounds in the past 26 weeks with the Sunny Gals. Not bad! Especially considering that I've been unable to exercise since June due to a knee injury.

Now in the past, the old me wouldn't celebrate a 23lb weight loss - After all, it's only 1/4 of the 83lbs that I need to lose - and when you're "all or nothing" and critical of yourself like I used to be, I would have focused on the fact that I still had 60lbs to lose and for good measure, I probably would have beaten myself up for not having lost more weight. Yes, I have 83lbs to lose - you can really see how that negative, all or nothing attitude worked for me in the past :)

But the patient, focused and grateful me thinks that this wonderful 23lb weight loss has been illuminating.

For instance since losing 23 lbs:
I now use the fourth hole on my belt (it used to be the first)
I no longer wear clothing with a "W" in the label
My double-chin is now 1 and 1/2 chins
My XL shirt has been replaced with a loose-fitting Large

Most importantly, I've proven to myself that I can be patient and goal-oriented and I'm no longer too shy to ask for help when I need it (props again to my Sunny Gals). I've stopped making excuses and I refuse to let life's distractions deter me - case in point, I managed to lose weight even while on crutches the last 5 weeks - You Go Girl!

My goals for the FIWC:

Continue to eat only when hungry and with purpose - an ongoing challenge for this former emotional-eater

Continue to limit alcohol - sigh...

Workout when possible and focus on quality and not quantity.

Stay involved with the Sunny Gals. I toyed with the idea of dropping out of the last challenge when I was discouraged about my knee prognosis and overwhelmed with trying to lose weight without exercising but the Sunny Gals would have none of that - again, lucky for me!

STSF Challenge Goals

I want to work this Challenge simply. I lean towards an "all or nothing" attitude and I tend to start strong (often with unrealistic goals) and lose interest and motivation when the going gets tough.

I am going to lose 15 lbs by the end of this Challenge (5lbs a month).

I'm going to make 2 simple adjustments to my diet and stick with them throughout the Challenge. I'm going to drink 10 glasses of water a day and eat at least 30 grams of fiber and no more than 40 grams of fat per day.

I'm going to continue getting organized with the goal of creating more control and less stress in my daily life.

    Robin I love your goals! In fact I took one of them and made it mine as well! The fiber and the fat!! You are awesome girl and I know that you can lose 15lbs by the end of STSF!

Goals for the Week of Saturday June 20th

Exercise:
Walk a gentle 30 minutes/day: 6x (if possible, due to knee injury)
Complete either Quickfire or Laura's strength exercises daily
Ab routine: 3x

Food:
Drink 10 glasses of water daily
Eat at least 30 grams of fiber and no more than 40 grams of fat daily

Life:
Create a new family budget...sigh

Eat sensibly and consciously
Drink 8 glasses of water a day

Exercise:
Walk 4x this week
Do Kettle bell DVD 3x this week
Do TJ Abs DVD 2x this week
Complete Quickfire Challenges 5x this week

Life:
Stay off the scale until next Friday
Listen to McKenna CD daily
Complete SIS Challenge
Go the extra degree (212) daily with regard to home life
