Go Jump in A Lake? OK!!

Monday, July 25, 2011

I just got back from an amazing week of wilderness camping with my family.

While we were there, I did something I've ALWAYS shied away from -- swimming in the beautifully clear, COLD lake. The weather was warm enough, and I was brave enough to try it -- and I ended up doing it Every Day!!

Totally apart from the amazing, refreshing feeling after a great swim, I felt joyfully connected to my fearless family (who love the water, cold or not) and proud of myself for breaking through my own barrier.

Starting out is really uncomfortable - a sharp slap in the face - then you get used to it, and when you leave (the water) you feel incredibly refreshed and invigorated.

Sound familiar??

This is exactly how I've been feeling these many months. I've been standing on the edge of the COLD lake, witnessing all kinds of Spark people splashing around, having fun and feeling amazing. I've dipped my toes in, and kept saying I was coming in, but that's it.

Inspired by my discovery and newfound LOVE of the lake -- I'm coming in! I'm tired of holding myself back -- and it's going to feel SO GOOD! SPLASH!!

Today's Lake:

Drink 8plus glasses of water emoticon
Walk/Run on Treadmill at least 30 min emoticon
Day 1 of JM's 30 Day Shred emoticon (ummm.... one day later )
Quick Track Fitness minutes emoticon
Lots of greens with lunch and dinner emoticon
Make a delicious Fruit smoothie emoticon
Check in with my SparkTeams emoticon
Quick Goals Met blog tonight or tomorrow. emoticon (This is it!)

I have everything I need -- I just need to DO IT.

Thanks for stopping by -- have an Awesome Day!

What a neat new look at it!
I too do the jumping in and saying screw it to my fear!
I have found swimming is just as much fun now as it was as when I was a kid...even if I am a little self conscience of my body!

It always helps to know what you are feeling isn't just you...that others have the same look on things...
It helps to break through! (it was Coach Nicole's blog on her wearing a swimsuit that helped push me back into the water!)

Keep Sparking!

It's only a Matter of Time...

"Persistence is the twin sister of excellence. One is a matter of quality; the other, a matter of time."

- Marabel Morgan

There's a cool, crisp feel in the air, and I feel the winds of change coming...

I admire so many on this site who are getting back in the game, staying in the game, picking themselves up and keeping going.

I also admire so many on this site who share their stories, their successes and their struggles. There's so much honesty and sharing and support. It's really incredible!

I feel inspired and compelled to chip in, share some of my goals and my challenges along the way. I want to actively support and be supported in this journey!

Here goes:

Goals for Today, Sunday November 14:

make a broccoli soup

make an apple/plum crisp

complete work forms I've been putting off...

set up online evaluations I've been putting off...

spend 50 minutes on the treadmill - walk/run

see how many pushups I can do

see how many crunches I can do

drink 8 glasses of water

plug in Quick Track info (I so rarely do this!)

That looks good for now. If/when I do all this, I'll feel really good!

Thanks for checking in, and have yourselves a great day!!

Courage is not the absence of fear, but rather the judgement that something else is more important than fear.

You had a super productive day, my friend. That's great! Keeps me motivated to hear how proud of yourself you are! I, too, have realized the value of setting goals -- not only in my head, but on paper in my handwriting, posted where they are view at all times.

You are doing great meeting your goals and setting new goals daily. I might have to do this to get me back on track. Good luck, and keep up the GREAT work.

Love & light,

Used to.... and Now ....

My second blog ever... and in the same day! I just want to clarify a few things....

When I wrote about thinking "it won't happen to me", or feeling discouraged about my appearance --- I'm mostly upset that I let myself get out of balance. Too much time sitting at a desk, eating or drinking whatever is at hand rather than mindfully -- it's really easy to do, esp with a lot of stress. We all have our challenges!

I've always been impressed by people who dedicate themselves to personal growth and healthy choices -- it's not always easy. There's a lot of inspiring people here at SparkPeople, and I'm feeling positive about getting back on track to a balanced way of life.

My immediate goals are to substitute some bad habits for good ones:

Used to
think I wasn't really gaining weight...
I KNOW I have ... the denial is over.

Used to
eat buttered popcorn & drink beer practically nightly
drink lots of water, stop snacking in the evening & switch to the occasional glass of wine, if anything

Used to
sit and think about losing weight, watch everyone else on SparkPeople get it done
plugging in my Fitness minutes, being mindful of my food choices, continuing with C25K program, posting a blog or two, and ..... !

Thanks for listening.
