Spring and I 'm feeling frisky

It's Children's Day here in Japan which is a national holiday. Rode my bicycle all the way down to the main library which is on the harbor under sunshine and blue skies. Came home and DH helped me take the winter clothes and blankets to the storage locker. THEN I pulled weeds for a half an hour in the pocket park across from our apartment with the company of three of the local homeless cats and had a conversation with an elderly neighbor out for a stroll. Gotta make the most of this weather before the humidity rises for the next 5 months.

Gardening's great, isn't it? I just moved into a house and am spending almost all my weekends (and most of this 4-day Golden Week weekend) trying to tame it. It's a jungle out there! The worst (best?) thing is the stupid "grass trimmer" -- I can only handle about 30 minutes at a time (max) as it rattles my right hand/arm something terrible, but it really gets my heartrate up! I don't know what I'm going to do once the weather turns hot and wet! Report Inappropriate Comment

No, not that kind. The once-a-month grocery shop. Event #1 - negotiating the Japanese version of a Big Box store where the aisles are about 5 feet wide and there are about 2000 people in the store with itty-bitty shopping carts. I need to go through the register twice, so I take a break after the first pass. Event #2 - wrestling the grocery bags into the itty bitty car, driving home and wrestling the bags up to the second floor (no elevator). Event #3 - trying to find places to put everything in the itty bitty kitchen. It's a total mind and body workout!

I used to shop like that - filling up a very large shopping cart, including stuff on the flat area below - only to get home and cram and shove to fit it all mostly out of the way, only to surrender and leave some things on the counter. A nod to the children's song "Robin in the rain". Just because it was spatterining a bit didn't stop me from commuting to my private teaching gig by bicycle and then doing some shopping at the local farmers' market - parsnips and leeks! with a stop at the local Shinto shrine to have a word with the local spirits about my younger son improving his self-confidence for the new school year starting this month.

Packing away all the ways we heat our apartment even if it is only in the low 60s during the day. Tired of those high utility bills. Walking and biking to avoid the high gas prices, too. Lifestyle changes!
