7 cans of vegetables

Monday, December 21, 2009

Today I took 7 cans of vegetables to the Salvation Army Food Drive. That stands for 7 pounds gone since the 3 I took just before Thanksgiving. That is ten since the first of October. A couple of those cans are there because I have been down farther than I am today but I am will to give them in anticipation of what I will do before the end of the year because I had lost down to them a couple of times and I don't want them anymore.

I never did find the team that was doing this with me. I hope some others were able to give something to the food bank or other charity that helps those in need.

Hope your Christmas is a blessing to you and your family.

What a wonderful idea! I have learned to shop food sales, doubling the savings with coupons. Well, I saved enough to buy toys for "Toys for Tots" sponsored by the Marines. I feel so GOOD when I do this. emoticon emoticon emoticon

Which team am I on that is doing the weight loss and giving a pound of canned goods to the charity of our choice? I have looked and cannot find it.
I want to be sure to do this next Monday so they can use it for the Christmas holiday.
I gave three cans of green beans to the Salvation Army Food Bank just before Thanksgiving and am looking forward to doing this again.
Thanks and Merry Christmas,

Stranger on a birthday card.

Thursday, December 10, 2009

There are a group of teachers who have lunch together a couple of times a month. One of our group is stateside but we keep in contact and send cards signed by those of us still here. Mary received her card which had a picture of the group on it and signed by all. Another teacher had called her and Mary mentioned the card asking who one of the ladies was. I had lost so much weight that she did not recognize me. I have known Mary since my sons were in high school.

Thank you SparkPeople and all my friends here who have encouraged me.

Snakes! Two of them, dead.

Tuesday, November 10, 2009

This morning when I went to do my exercise/yard work I found two Brown Tree snakes in my front yard. One was about two feet long and the other a bit bigger. it is not uncommon to find them in the jungle or around where farm animals but I live in a small housing complex. Yes, we do have dogs, cats and even chickens in the housing. These snakes are venomous with fangs at the back of their mouths so they have to gnaw on an animal to poison them. They have bit humans, some of whom I have known. I have seen some that were much bigger. The first one I saw was in '69. It was over ten feet long, hanging from the back of a soft drink truck with its tail dragging along the ground.
I am very thankful I did not have to eliminate them because they were already dead. Such is life on Guam.

Good Grief! Thank the Lord they were dead! I do not care for snakes. I have known a few people who have full blown phobias about snakes, so bad, they can't even look at pictures of snakes. Work for a psychiatrist at the Univ. of Michigan who studied people with phobias. Guess what I had to get a few times at the biology department a few times. Yeah, they were harmless and in special cases, but I didn't care for them. Also had to pick up the spiders from same department. Again, never told my psych.dr.boss. of my extreme fear. He also never knew I had a real phobia of needles. He treated patients with that phobia as well. He didn't find out till my last day on the job when I accidentally saw a video of people being stuck with needles. I almost fainted. He was shocked he had not known. Wanted to treat me. I said, no, I just happen to be moving to Salt Lake City, Utah. Cured myself when my daughters began getting their immunizations - I HAD to get over the phobia.

Back to snakes. Keep checking your back yard. hisssssss! emoticon

That would be reason enough for me to leave Guam. I am terrified of snakes. Even just the gardener snakes.

I'm glad it wasn't me that found the snakes! You sound very knowledgeable about them so I guess you were okay with finding them. I love to be out in nature as long as there are no flying bugs around me and definitely not snakes!

Jane, how scary was that! Thank God that they were dead. Please be careful, especially when you are working in the yard. Sometimes we don't see these creatures until it is too late. Take care and have a blessed day.

I am sleeping for longer periods through the night! Not always, but much better. I usually go to sleep after 11:00 p.m. and don't wake up until after 5:00 a.m. instead of every few hours or every time I turn over.
Some of this I think is because I have lost weight (hurray!) and perhaps the foods I am or am not eating. I find my nose is not all clogged up and I can breath through it instead of my mouth.
Anyway had to share.
