Doctor's Feedback!

Friday, June 05, 2009

I went to the doctor yesterday after having blood work done May 20th. She was delighted that my weight was down. That is over 35 pounds since January 31st. Then she looked at my cholesterol, dropped 62 points; triglycerides, dropped 127 points; glucose, dropped 19 points and was very pleased. I told her about SparkPeople and she took the information down to give to some of her other patients who have been struggling with hypertension and weight loss.

I started out doing yard work in early January and was winded in ten minutes. I am up to 40+ minutes most days now.

She asked me if there was a teen program and I said I was not sure. Is there? I will pass the information to her if so.

The bottom line? THANK YOU SPARKPEOPLE! I especially want to thank all of the support people I meet on a daily basis here on the net through the different teams.

My long term goal? I want to attend my 8 month old grandson's wedding standing on my own two feet! If he is 25 I will be 82.

It's wonderful that you can see your rewards in all your different numbers: minutes in the yard, total cholesterol, lbs on the scale. Keep up the great work so you and your family can enjoy your life together for a long, long time.

Super work! Way to spread the Spark too! I can't wait to do the same thing when I see my doctor in October...

There IS a teen site. When one logs into SparkPeople.com way on the right side of the screen is a bar that says "Our Other Sites" and looking at that one of the options that shows up is SparkTeens.

You might want to make your doctor a flyer. That was an option I saw somewhere--I think when I went to "Spread the Spark". I made a nice flyer for our community rec. center when I saw that, but they would not let me put it up! They said they only allow local things.

I wish there were spark people tee shirts with the information printed on the BACK of the tee shirt (are there?). When I walk at the rec. center, I read the back of people's shirts--not the front.

Yes, there is a teen program as I have seen that on my teacher team that some of the high school teachers have recommended it to their students as part of 'healthy living'. Not sure where to find the link to it but I'm sure there is a much more in touch Sparker out there with the EXACT info. (I teach Gr. 1 students so I didn't pay that much attention to the Spark Teen stuff when the other teachers were talking about it.)
BTW, congrats on YOUR improved health!!

A Couple of Things

Tuesday, May 05, 2009

At Denny's Restaurant I have found that I can ask for a salad instead of the fries they offer. I get the dressing on the side and then us a trick I learned from SparkPeople of dipping my fork into the dressing and then spearing a vegetable to eat. I often use just one tablespoon of dressing this way.

The second thing is I am finding I have more energy! I did the reading today that I have been doing for sometime and found when I got home that I was working out in the yard. I had not planned to but in the midst of the work realized where I was!

Now if I could just start loosing the weight again.

This is my year for bee stings! I got two on Wednesday morning a little after 7:00 a.m.and another two today, Saturday. I have not had this many since I was 5 and my brother put a 2X4 over a nest in a blackberry patch.
My left pointing finger knuckle and eye near the bone was stung on Wednesday. They swelled a little that day and then during the night around 3:00 a.m. I found my eye almost swollen shut. I put a cold compress on the eye and brought the swelling down some. My eye is still swollen a little and the skin is slightly discolored.
I know I'm a baby.

There is life after retirement!

Thursday, April 23, 2009

April 23, 2009
I retired from teaching three years ago! I have been active in my church and taught Sunday School to the primary students for many years. I read to the children at our local hospital twice a week as well in a couple of classrooms of Christian schools. I have been a member of our local International Reading Association for many years and am now on the board. In November of 2008 I joined SparkPeople to do something about my health so I will be around to enjoy my grandchildren and see them married.

Life does not end just because I no longer have a job. The job did not define me before and the lack of a job does not define me now.

God is good! emoticon emoticon

I 'really' like your sharing here. That is what I am finding out. Been retired for several years. Took an early retirement - just plain tired out. But been busy exploring activities. Finally did some theatre/musicals I had always wanted to do. Now I want to do other things - volunteer at the library, volunteer at the ASPCA and hospital (yet to be done). Joined a service oriented womens' club. Be more available to my grown daughters up in Sacramento, California. Help my neighbors. No grandchildren yet but want to be healthy and ready should any come along the way. emoticon emoticon
