Life's Like That!

Saturday, December 03, 2011

These were found in Reader's Digest. Enjoy!

While planning our wedding, I had to find a place to hold a reception for our 80 guests. One of the caterers I called regretted he could accommodate only 40 people, but added optimistically, "Well, dear, maybe next time."

emoticon

To improve my television reception on one of the northern gulf islands in British Columbia, I had a very complicated wiring system installed. Since my area of expertise is medicine, I call a technician when something goes wrong. He lives about 50 kilometres away on Vancouver Island, and his mother now recognizes my voice.

The last time I phoned, I heard her say to him: "It's your doctor calling. She wants you to make a house call."

emoticon

I was playing on an unfamiliar golf course and wasn't doing very well. On one hole I hit my shot such a distance over the green that it rococheted with a bang off the metal roof of a nearby mobile home before landing by the front door. As I went to retrieve the ball, a woman came, and I fully expected a scolding. "What club did you use?" she asked.

"A five iron," I replied.
"Next time use a seven."

Monday, October 31, 2011

Have you tried Facial Exercises before? Give it a try with those below:

Challenge for Week 3 - Oct. 30 to Nov. 5, 2011

Welcome to the weekly Facial Exercising Challenge!

We are already in our third week! Please do these for a minimum of 5 days a week. You choose the days that suit you best. If you can do these for the 7 days, all the better for you! These will take a little more than 8 minutes to complete.
BEFORE YOU START EXERCISING, DON’T FORGET TO LUBRICATE YOUR FACE WITH CREAM OR WITH WATER.

Exercises:

Eyes

Cheeks

feature=related

Neck and throat
Sit upright, tilt your head back looking at the ceiling, while keeping your lips closed and relaxed. Open your lips and stick your tongue out as it you were trying to touch your chin with the tip of your tongue. Keep your tongue out in this position for 10 counts, and then return your tongue and head to its normal position.

Lips
Place middle finger just above the middle of your top lip. Place index finger at one end and ring finger at the other end of your mouth holding lip in place. Now attempt to smile with your top lip. Hold for a count of 5, release and repeat.

Lips and general face (provided by MOTLEM)
Say: "EE (phonetically), then AR, Oh, AR" by really stretching the face. Do 20 times 3 times a day (you can do this while watching TV and doing the dishes).

Forehead
Frown as much as possible and try to bring your eyebrows over your eyes while pulling the eyebrows toward one another. Then lift your eyebrows as far as possible while opening your eyes as far as possible. Repeat 5 times.

Neck and throat
Place your hand at the base of your neck and hold. Tilt your head back 35 times while smiling strong (mouth closed). You will feel your neck and chin working.

After doing these, massage your face and neck with upward strokes.

Don’t forget to come back to your original reply and edit as you go along. Thank you.

Enjoy!

My stamina is definitely improving with Turbo Fire!

Wednesday, October 26, 2011

I am presently in the tenth week of the Turbo Fire program. Even though my weight has been horribly stable, my stamina and endurance have improved tenfold since I began the Turbo Fire program.

When I was in Week 1, I thought to myself that I would not be able to do everything! Oh yeah! Well I proved myself wrong. Although I am not jumping all the time as the 20 and 30 y.o.'s are doing on the tape (hey, I am 63 y.o), I am joining them in jumping jacks, running on the spot, etc. When I do get tired, I follow the easier style until I catch my breath again and whamo I'm right back in.

Today was supposed to be my day off from Turbo Fire so I did a 45 minute Taebo Cardio class with Billy Blanks. It wasn't easy but I did it easily... My cardios are getting easier to do. Going uphill is a cinch now with no slowing down. Yep, my stamina and endurance have really improved.

Once I finish the 20 week program, I will definitely be restarting it. Or should I try Insanity??? On that, we shall see. There's no harm in trying.

emoticon to all.

Lise

Awesome! How good is that! emoticon

A great way to measure your fitness is your resting heart rate. As soon as you wake in the morning (before doing anything at all and don't get up)take your pulse for a 60 second count. Do this 3 mornings in a row and divide the total by 3 to get your resting heart rate.

For a 63 yr old woman: poor = 84+, below av = 78-83, average = 74-77, above av = 69-73, good = 65-68, excellent = 60-64 and athlete = 54-59.

As long as you are careful to protect your joints, have at it! I'm intrigued to hear you are enjoying Turbo Fire. I've seen the infomercial so many times. Problem is I have a ton of fitness DVD's and tapes I'm not using now, even ones I enjoy. Maybe I can "earn" the right to buy a new set! emoticon

Let's laugh a bit

Sunday, October 23, 2011

One mountaineer to another: "it almost cost us our lives climging to the top of Mount Everest to plant our flag, but it was worth it. Hand me the flag."

"Me? I thought you brought it.

emoticon

"Jill," a teacher demandedof the student in the hall, "do you mind telling me whose class you're cutting this time?"

"Well," the teenager explained, "see, okay, like it's like I really don't like think like that's really important, y'know, like because I'm y'know, like I don't get anything out of it."

"It's Mrs. Winthrop's English class, isn't it?"

Are Facial Exercises for you?

Monday, October 17, 2011

Back in February 2011 I began a Facial Exercising Team. We're an active bunch interested in making grimaces to eventually make our faces look tighter. emoticon emoticon emoticon

Try out our challenge for this current week:

BEFORE YOU START EXERCISING, DON’T FORGET TO LUBRICATE YOUR FACE WITH CREAM OR WITH WATER.

Exercises:

Neck and throat – (one of my favorites)
Sit upright, tilt your head back looking at the ceiling, while keeping your lips closed and relaxed. Start puckering your lips together in a kiss and stretch the kiss, as if you were trying to kiss the ceiling. Keep your lips puckered for 10 counts, then relax, bring your head back to its normal position and repeat 5 times.

Lips
Suck on the tip of your index finger, up to the first joint, as hard as you can, slowly pulling it from your mouth. Repeat 10 times.

Forehead
Firm up your brow, place your index fingers on your forehead just above your eyelids and pull them down while trying to raise your eyebrows. Repeat 10 times. On the 10th count, hold it by pulling down your eyebrows and lifting your forehead until you feel the burn and release.

Eyes
Without moving your upper lids, attempt to raise your lower ones. This great defense against crow’s feet is easier said than done. Repeat 10 times.

Neck and throat
Place your hand at the base of your neck and hold. Tilt your head back 35 times while smiling strong (mouth closed). You will feel your neck and chin working.

After doing these, massage your face and neck with upward strokes.

If you would be interested in joining the team, go to my Spark Page and look for the Facial Exercising Team.

Have fun!

I have always wondered about these exercises (well, since I've been sagging a bit these last 5-10 years, anyway).
Do you feel they are helping you somewhat?
My neck is starting to scare me!
I have joined your team, my friend.
emoticonon your success, btw.
