Life's Like That (Reader's Digest)

Friday, May 13, 2011

I love Reader's Digest and I found a June 1988 issue in my husband's study. I found this cute article.

Quote

I was probably the only person in our rural town who didn't have a vegetable garden. Finally, I decided to start a tiny plot and planted peas. As I finished, my neighbor - a native to the area - dropped by. "What'd you plant?" he asked, nodding at my freshly dug plot.

"Peas," I answered proudly.
"You forgot the headstones."
"I did?" I asked weakly, wondering what headstones were.
"You've planted those peas so deep," he said, shaking his head, "they deserve a proper burial."

UNQUOTE

Being a city girl, I wouldn't have known any better myself. emoticon

Trivia points are getting way better!

Monday, May 02, 2011

The simple fact that I regularly respond to the quizzes has improved my Trivia Points. There comes a point where the information given starts to actually register in this brain of mine. emoticon I enjoy the quizzes because I am learning at the same time. Spark People, THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU.

Totally agree with this - I feel like I am really becoming educated on healthful eating and exercise habits - doesn't it feel great to have that reenforced by nearly perfect (or perfect) scores on the trivia and quizzes?

Very motivational and good reminders to reenforce the knowledge so it really sinks in.

Love Spark People!! emoticon

Enough is enough... Time to get serious here!

Sunday, May 01, 2011

Wow, today is already May 1st. At the beginning of the year, I promised myself that I would reach my goal in 2011. Can I do this? You betcha! It will not be easy but I AM GOING TO REACH MY GOAL BY DECEMBER 31st!

Weighing presently 150.48 lbs, and with a weight loss of 4 lbs per month here is my new schedule:

June 1st - 148.48 lbs
July 1st - 144.48 lbs
Aug. 1st - 140.48 lbs
Sep. 1st - 136.48 lbs
Oct. 1st - 132.48 lbs
Nov. 1st - 128.48 lbs
Dec. 1st - 124.48 lbs
therefore by December 31st I should have reached 120 lbs!!!

Since October 2010, I have been stagnating around 150 lbs and it's too much for me. I met someone yesterday and she was slightly taller than myself and I found that she looked pleasantly round. We both have about the same type of body so I could judge for myself that I needed to slim down some more. I no longer want to be thin as a person my age, we need a bit of fat on our bones for health reasons.

I CAN DO THIS!

Of course you can do this! You will definitely do this...have you thought about changing anything to be sure to reach your inchstones? For instance, I started out with yoga - which I loved - but that wasn't enough to really burn fat. Zumba has been awesome and changing things up with exercise. And today I just came back from a rebounder class (like a little mini trampoline)...I think maybe mixing it up a bit on your fitness routine could be something to consider. Confusing my body at least seems to work! Do you agree it might be worth a try?

You've been such a great supporter of me...hope you don't mind me thinking of you.

Progress to date - April 30, 2009 to now (with pictures)

Friday, April 22, 2011

When I first joined Spark People on April 30, 2009, this is what I looked like:

and

I weighed 183.7 lbs for my 5'1" frame. Way too much weight for my tiny self. My cholesterol was reaching the 300 point and I was always tired. I was somewhat active doing Tai Chi three times a week and walking a couple of days during the week but it wasn't enough. For what I was consuming, the exercise level had to get MOVING!

I must point out at this point that I am Hypothyroid and that losing weight is extremely difficult to do but it is feasible if you put your mind and mostly your energy in the process. It does take a lot of determination to achieve this but it will be done. To other Hypothyroids, don't despair because emoticon.

In the last two years I have learned to make better choices for food and my exercise level is way up -- I do an average of 100 minutes a day. Initially, both my knees were extremely painful but the pain has subsided substantially with the weight loss. I do Turbo Jam, Taebo, Jillian's 30 Day Shred, do Hip Hop, do four hours of Tai Chi, walk a minimum of 12 miles a week, lift weights, etc. For a 62 y.o. woman, I feel great about my progress and look forward to losing the excess I still have on. I now weigh 150.48 lbs.

This is what I look like today:

Inches lost:

April 30, 2009 Neck: 13" Now: 12 Minus 1 inch
Chest: 43.5" to 38 Minus 5.5 inches
Waist: 34.5" to 30.5 Minus 4 inches
Stomach: 41" to 37 Minus 4 inches
Hips: 44.5" to 39.5 Minus 5 inches
Upper R. Thigh: 26.5 to 22 Minus 4.5 inches
Knee: 17" to 15,5 Minus 1.5 inches
Calf: 16.75" to 15 Minus 1.75 inches

BMI: 34.6 to 28 Minus 6.6 points!

Am I happy with my progress? You betcha! And you haven't seen the end either.

I wish you well on your journeys because if I can do it, anyone can...

emoticon to you all.

Although I lost my 60+ pounds when I was close to 200 pounds, 5'1" frame in a different way a few years ago, and then regained some back, I am getting my final 10-12 off with SP and I love it. Actually I have only about 3 and 1/2 to go and then on to maintenance--yes, tracking and exercise still in the process. This is a NEW and very healthy way for me. Thank you for your inspiration and motivation to all of us on this journey. emoticon emoticon emoticon

Sorry for not being around much of late...

Saturday, April 16, 2011

I had to have my computer reformatted and to reinstall everything just took forever. As you may already know, older programs sometimes are not compatible with new programs, therefore, after having installed Windows 7, I could no longer use my scanner nor my printer. The technician had to come back and reinstall Windows XP for me so all my programs and tools that I have that still work, can be functional for me. I'm back!

Hugs to you all.
