Under the Weather

Friday, January 08, 2010

I have some kind of bug that's "going around" - chills and lightheadedness so I've been working from home and napping between emails! I plan to do a light session on the stationary bike tonight because I am starting to feel better.

And happily I am not inhaling comfort foods - sticking to healthy choices, so that's good.

Interestingly, I found myself purchasing the Spark for my Kindle today because I need to read something inspiring. It's kind of fun to understand the history of SparkPeople.

Sorry to hear you are not so well, I hope you recover quickly.
The Spark arrived at our front door yesterday and I am really enjoying it. It is great to read of Chris' background and how the Spark evolved. I find I need to reignite quite often and this answers why the Spark works. Good reading.

Gaining Some Discipline

Wednesday, January 06, 2010

Today I tightened up a bit more on my eating - just forgoing desserts and candy clearly isn't enough; so today when I caught myself thinking about a bagel (the big ones at Dunkin Donuts but mulitgrain!) and coffee with real cream, I said whoa! sister, you don't need all that - get back to the office (I was running errands at lunch time) and have greek yogurt with blueberries (which I did) and then had a nice salad filled with veggies/boiled ham and my own vinaigrette dressing for dinner tonight (DH is still working). It felt good to say "no" to myself. Need to do it more.

Also have upped the indoor exercise to at least 50 minutes allocated between the elliptical and stationary bike, both at good resistance levels.

Let's give it a week and see what happens .....

Snow Walking

Sunday, January 03, 2010

Phew! DH and I went snowmobiling on our property earlier this morning and then I took our dog for a "walk" (more like a climb) through the snow. Our property here is on the side of a mountain and let me just say that walking up hill in deep snow is a work out!!! My dog had a great time and so did I except for somewhat frozen ears. Back home today and then off to work tomorrow bright and early.

Happy 2010 to all !

Love the cardinal -- hope you saw one on your walk with the dogs! We've got cardinals and chickadees at our feeder -- and goldfinches in their winter plumage really enjoying the Niger seed tube.

Winter Wonderland

Saturday, January 02, 2010

It has been snowing steadily here for more than 8 hours - lovely to behold when one does not have to drive in it. DH is out on his snowmobile - I may join him tomorrow before we head home to take up real life (and real work) again. This has been such an enjoyable holiday season except for the cookie excess and I am looking forward to 2010. Life IS good and we must appreciate every single day either for the joy it brings or the opportunity it presents to make things better.

Happy Saturday.

P.S. - I forgot to mention that stair climbing is a killer workout!

It's a long time since I saw any snow, so from afar it is lovely to hear of it. I agree with you, stair climbing is a killer, but awfully good for you. emoticon

You are right. Snow can be beautiful! I love to see cardinals playing in the snow. I don't like driving in the snow. In fact I quit after sliding off the road 2x. I was quite fortunate. Once I was only about 1 mile from where I lived in Carl Jct, MO. My mother was home. The other time I was driving to my Grandparents house, and I happened to slide off the highway about 6 blocks from my Uncles house in Bartlesville, OK. He was home too. I think that was fortunate. He was a terrific uncle. I just have slipped on the sidewalk too. (even with yak tracks on my shoes, so be careful). Your Friend, Amy emoticon
