Slowly .... slowly ....

Thanks for the encouragement ladies!

DH and I had a pleasant NYE ... after dinner (which was exactly as I described it in the previous post) we went home and DH started a fire .... we greeted the new year with our dog and cat and I had one additional glass of red wine. All in all, a very happy day.

I might have trouble walking outside today because there is a fair bit of snow here in VT; if a walk doesn't work, I will do stair climbing and report tomorrow.

    It's always good to have a fall back plan and climbing the stairs will be a lot less slippy if there is snow around, All the best.

I Don't Like Being a Cliche

I am not one for New Year resolutions so I am starting TODAY to recover from weeks of giving away (not "losing" because I was actively involved in my behavior) control over eating desserts and cookies every day .....Yesterday afternoon I finished the ginger cookies (my grandmother's recipe) that my DH requested (along with butter cookies) for the holidays and as much as I love those cookies, I was sad that I have lost so much discipline. In fact, that seems to have been my continuing theme this year - somewhere along the line I lost the discipline that I used to have. This year I did recover as far as consistent exercise is concerned, though, and I am thankful for that. Now I am 4 pounds above maintenance instead of 2 and the downhill slide ends today - I have been good so far today and even though we are headed out for dinner, I will have salmon and vegetables (no rolls!!) and one glass of merlot. I will, I will, I will .... and I shall report back tomorrow.

Catching Up

I think I have come out of the work undertow for a while - my last blog was a little over 2 weeks ago, feels like longer ...! In any case, I have been exercising 4 to 5 days per week at challenging resistance levels and have been good about avoiding sugary desserts except for Thanksgiving and the day after. I have just come in from a long walk with lots of 'resistance' from a stiff wind here in VT - my ears feel frozen (!) but it was bracing and fun, I never tire of the scenery. I think I am back on track mentally with consistent exercise and I promise myself that I will not have any more of the "left over" Thanksgiving desserts. I know I can do it.

  I can't imagine walking or running in that cold. Here in SC the weather is chilly, and there are times I wonder if I am crazy. But reading your post made me realize that I could probably run all winter if I push myself enough.

  With all that cold weather and walking, it will just burn away as body fat keeping you warm. I just came back from my walk with hubby in tow. It was chilly, but not windy as I had expected, so the walk was very pleasant.

Enjoy the holiday food because it'll be gone soon and then there's Christmas to look forward to.

Wednesday was a good day - took the time to have lunch with two old friends that I have not seen in ages. I should do that more often.

Day to Day

I achieved both goals for another day. I must avoid my "70s" diet mindset that if I am good for a few days, I should immediately drop pounds. I know that weight loss doesn't work that way and I have actually been following a healthy eating plan and exercise routine for 5 years now, but it is so hard to let go of mindsets that were ingrained years ago when "low fat" diets were the rage. Sad to think that I have been concerned about weight issues since I was in high school - what a waste of intellectual effort.

    Recognizing the problem - you are half way there. Balance and serving size is definitely the way to go.
