Veterans' Day Thank You

Wednesday, November 11, 2009

emoticon emoticon

This day is more meaningful than ever to me this year. I think it is because I am coming face to face with the reality of the profound importance of individual freedom at a time in our country's existence when the government's "presence" in our lives is increasing every day. Those who fought for us throughout history did so in order to protect our freedom - we must work every day to preserve it.

No dessert - emoticon
Exercise - emoticon

Yesterday was a good day for lots of reasons. Food and exercise were on track, but also DH and I tripped over a bunch of photos of our wedding and five-year anniversary and trip to Scotland/England several years ago. It was fun to appreciate those experiences again in a visual way and oh, my, how different I looked 9 years ago - I still had contacts rather than glasses, my hair was relatively thick (not thinning as it has been the past few years) but I certainly looked "chubby" - a picture really is worth a thousand words. Thank God I got on track with proper eating and exercise when I did or heavens knows what my situation would be now.

My best to all!

I look back on my photos and can't even believe that was me! Isn't it nice to have reminders of how far you've come?

A photo is certainly worth a thousand words and great to look back with fond memories and even better to know that you have, like fine wine, improved with age.

Always good to look back at where we were and be remimded of how we looked. Helps us to stay on travk and keep moving forward.

A Challenge Met (Finally!)

No dessert - emoticon
Exercise - emoticon

Sunday was a glorious, sunny, warm day here in New England. Just perfect. After chores in the morning, we visited friends for lunch (healthy salad with grilled chicken and sparkling water!) and I had plenty of time for my walk in the afternoon before we went for dinner with DH's family (caesar salad with grilled chicken with sparkling water!) AND ..... DH's sister had baked him a french vanilla cake with strawberry filling and heavy whipped cream frosting - oh, my - everyone had a piece except ME! And then they all had hot chocolate with whipped cream, again except ME! I dodged two bullets despite family pressure to "just have a piece, it won't hurt you" ....... yes, indeed, a good day from so many perspectives!

My best to all !

Recap Saturday

No dessert - not accomplished - had strawberry licorice at the movies!
Exercise - emoticon

Food was acceptable except for the licorice. The walk was great but done a bit too late in the afternoon as it was just about dark on my way back - not good when one must walk at the side of the road!

I am back down 2 pounds so now I am 2 pounds above maintenance weight .... where I had been for several months, unfortunately. I will walk again today and strive for a day when I accomplish BOTH of my "one day at a time" goals - haven't done so well at all this past week.

Everyone, enjoy the day!

Lopsided Progress

No dessert - check
Exercise - no

Ack. My food yesterday was right on target but I did not make it to the elliptical because I worked a bit late and then spent the evening with DH watching the History channel !

It is a gorgeous autumn day in my part of New England - I am working now, then headed with DH to a local winery and lunch - upon return to home, I WILL take a walk along my neighborhood route that includes a series of true hills - it is a good workout but at this time of year can only be done on weekends because darkness arrives before I leave work!

All the best to everyone!

UPDATE: I did my "hill walk" late this afternoon!!! Yay!
