Fund raiser for a congressional candidate this evening so no elliptical. But my eating was fine today with no dessert!

No extracurricular activities tonight so the elliptical it is for sure today!

Amost Back to Day 1

No dessert - check
Exercise - no

Company dinner with our bankers last night ran longer than anticipated so I didn't feel like exercising when I got home after 9pm. Food was good for the day though - well prepared trout for dinner with cauliflower and a starter of beet salad (again!) and one glass of merlot. Breakfast and lunch were the same as usual plus a banana in the afternoon.

I know that a year ago I would have jumped on the elliptical no matter what time of night it was so I am unhappy with my complacency that if I'm "too tired" I don't have to do what I know I should. Darn.

Today is a new day and another opportunity to do it right.

    Don't feel bad....I know how you feel!! A year ago I would have done alot of things differently. I had so much more willpower and dedication. I just feel TIRED!!!! I don't know if it's mental or not??? Anyway, hang in there. At least you're still eating properly!!!!

Day 2 of One Day at a Time

Not so successful - my DH and I went out for dinner at our favorite place after we voted and while I had a healthy meal of filet mignon accompanied by summer squash and red pepper, with a starter of beet salad, I also had a piece of chocolate torte. AND when we were at home later, I did not exercise. Ack.

That said, I had a pleasant evening with my husband, whom I do not frequently see until later in the evening because he is self-employed, so all told, it was a good day.

I will focus on today.

I have never been one to journal my food intake - one of the reasons that I liked South Beach so much was that Dr. A. said that you didn't have to measure, track, etc., just eat the "right" things ..... his original "theory" has undergone some change since the early '90s but his approach was just right for me at the time. I am very good about my basic food needs each day - fat free greek yogurt with fruit and walnuts for breakfast, a big salad for lunch with lots of vegetables and chicken or ham with and my own balsamic dressing (never tire of it) and either chicken, salmon, lean beef (on occasion) or high fiber cereal (!) with low fat milk for dinner (my husband and I both often work late so cereal is a healthy, quick option). My problem truly is the number of times per week that I now permit myself to have high fat desserts. I just can't do it more than once, max twice per week. And for now, each day my goal is not to do it at all to prove to myself that I still have discipline!

I have been so annoyed with my self that I failed to recognize that in mid-October I passed my 5 year mark on South Beach - it is only this year that I have started to gain and not had the discipline to reverse the trend.

On to Day 2 ....

    Oh, those desserts can be so tempting. I, too, like a little sweetness after dinner but I have one of those mini chocolates now and that seems to answer the need when I feel that I just cannot go one more day without a bit of sweetness.
Congratulations on five years with South Beach, WOW, that is so inspirational. I am two years with Sparks and still find that my discipline can slip so easily, it is great to hear that we really can keep this up.

Accountability Time!

Oh, my. I just read my August entry - it is now November 2, THREE months later, and I haven't improved my laxity with treats nor upped my exercise. I have had enough - this morning the scale was up another 2 pounds from where it was in August - this cannot go on. During this period I have been setting "goals" for myself but honestly I have approached it in the wrong manner - I can't look ahead two weeks (sadly) - I have to take this one day at a time. So today, I will not have dessert after dinner and I will work out. I will blog each day to account for whether or not I met my "goal" - I guess this is my equivalent of journaling!

    One day at a time is the only way to go. All the best and I'm looking forward to your blogs.

As goalie says - tracking your food is a sure fire way to understand what you are putting in and realise why things are not going to plan. Serving sizes is also a 'must know'. I use entree size plates now and that helps psychologically.

    Are you using the other tools available here on spark?
Tracking your food is an excellent way to help with accountability . I like how it also can show me my nutrition needs as well. emoticon
