Ok, so in early May DH and I had a one-week vacation in Aruba - great food, even greater desserts (love the mousse), pina coladas by the pool every day, etc., etc. Ok, home with 2 extra pounds and I STILL have them - ACK! I am missing the discipline I used to have - my older dog died in late May and I just didn't care about discipline for a few weeks but that was in May - this is August 1 !! I have developed this concept that if I am "good" for a few meals (not days, meals!) then I have "earned" a treat - what's up with that twisted thinking?! I have been good about consistent exercise (well, ok, the last two weeks haven't been great because of work demands, but still generally good) but I can't shake this notion of being entitled to sugary treats - I have to figure out how to get my old discipline back ...... I want to figure it out, so that will help at least. Hmmm.....

    I so understand where you are at. That reward system is learned from birth and it is so hard to break, but the good news is that it can be broken. One of great pieces of advice that I learned from Sparks is the reward system that is not food. Each day in my diary I write down what I have achieved, my spark points, my fruit and vege total and the number of drinks (Not alcohol) I have and if I meet my goal I put a big gold star on them. You know the ones you reward children with. It is amazing how psychologically great you feel doing this, and as you look back you have a fantastic recollection of all the daily successes you have had. All the very best.

    Would it help at all to make a list of other non-food treats and then quite deliberately award yourself one of those instead? Bubble bath, 15 minutes uninterrupted listening to music, walk around the garden looking at what's new, etc, etc: sometimes this works for me . . .

In general, I find that the association of celebration with food is a very tough one to break also.

I have been exactly at goal weight - not an ounce different positive or negative - for the past four days. I weigh first thing in the a.m. Yes, I know that weight fluctuates during the day - I don't mean that - I'm talking about the weight I see at the time I usually weigh every day. I can't recall the number ever being the exact same figure for this many days in a row - odd.


Weekend Eating

Well, we went away for the weekend and I had one "treat" every day (a muffin one day, ice cream the next and pie the last day) and not enough exercise because of the cold/snow. Not a good combination. This morning I was up a bit on the scale but still below my usual maintenance weight. This is what happens and I know it - limit the treats!!!

I got a decent night's sleep last night and used the elliptical and stationary bike tonight while eating right and drinking my water. One day at a time.

Things should be less hectic after tomorrow. Have been eating right and drinking water but not enough exercise or sleep. Still below my usual weight but I know one day it will just shoot up a few pounds so I'm not getting too fond of the current numbers!
