This video won money on Americas Funniest Videos a while back. Very funny! My mom had a poodle and I could 100% relate with it as poodles really do give them selves away when they have done something wrong as Ginger would look so guilty when she did something bad.....But I loved how the other 2 dogs looked at the guilty one together as if to "tattle" on it LOL

Kate Smith and God Bless America

Friday, March 04, 2011

Kate Smith was one very special woman. Here is her story and her song. Guaranteed to give you 'goose bumps'! She is the woman that is referred to as "The Fat Lady" in the trite verbalization of "It's not over till the fat lady sings". Kate Smith was born and grew up in Columbia, Missouri! In early 1940, Kate Smith, a fiercely patriotic American, and the biggest star on radio, was deeply worried about her country. She asked Irving Berlin if he could give her a song that would re-ignite the spirit of American patriotism and faith. He said he had a song that he had written in 1917, but never used it. He said she could have it. She sat at the piano and played it and realized how good it was. She called Mr. Berlin and told him that she couldn't take this from him for nothing. So, they agreed that any money that would be made off the song would be donated to the Boy Scouts of America. Thanks to Kate Smith and Irving Berlin, the Scouts have received millions of dollars in royalties. This clip is from the movie "You're in the Army Now". You will see a familiar face (near the end).

Frank Sinatra said that when Kate Smith, whom he considered the greatest singer of his age, first sang this song on the radio, a million guys got 'dust' in their eyes and had to wipe the tears the 'dust' caused.

I'm from Philadelphia and the Flyer's (hockey team) has a huge superstition with Kate Smith song and their winning record... when she was dying, hundreds of flyers fans came to the hospital and sang God Bless America to her. She is a national treasure!

Frozen Waters on Lake Michigan

Monday, February 21, 2011

This was sent to me in email by a dear Canadian friend. It is astounding.

ICEBERG PICTURES FROM LAKE MICHIGAN Amazing striped icebergs

Icebergs in Lake Michigan sometimes have stripes, formed by layers of snow that react to different conditions.

Blue stripes are often created when a crevice in the ice sheet fills up with melt water and freezes so quickly that no bubbles form.

When an iceberg falls into the lake, a layer of water can freeze to the underside. If this is rich in algae, it can form a green stripe.

Brown, black and yellow lines are caused by sediment, picked up when the ice sheet grinds downhill towards the lake.

Frozen Wave Pics - Nature is amazing!

The water froze the instant the wave broke through the ice. That's what it is like in Lake Michigan where it is the coldest weather in decades. Water freezes the instant it comes in contact with the air. The temperature of the water is already some degrees below freezing.

Just look at how the wave froze in mid-air!

I never heard of bergs in Lake Michigan before! In Lake Ontario, we used to get slushy "ice" but it didn't freeze over.

Other lakes would freeze and then pressure heaves were dangerous for the snowmobilers.

I've seen broken off ice bergs in the Atlantic coast north of Newfoundland. The smaller pieces are locally known as Bergie Bits. Gorgeous and scary!

PepperLeah and Her Husband Need Our Prayers and Love

Saturday, February 19, 2011

In case some of you didn't see my status (and I miss a lot of status updates myself), PepperLeah's husband (the Pepper part of her nickname) had to be taken by ambulance to the hospital this morning with heart attack symptoms. Thank God, the EMTs got there quickly and were able to help him avert a full-fledged heart attack, but he was well on his way to having one. He was in ICU at first and has now been moved to a step-down unit. His heart rate has been stabilized and for that I give thanks to God, such a big answer to many prayers on Pepper's behalf. At this point it is likely they will do a catheterization on him Monday but that has not yet been determined for certain. Leah, as anyone who knows her is aware, is a strong woman of great faith. Still, this is a scary ordeal for her. My heart aches with wanting to hop in our van and dash off to Florida to hold her hand and just be there with her, for her. I know, though, that Jesus is a friend who sticks closer than a brother and that He is her ever present help in times of trouble, her refuge, her fortress, her God in whom she trusts. I ask you to join your heart, your compassion, your faith with mine in praying for them both, for total restoration, for the perfect and good will of God to unfold in their lives, unleashing the abundant blessings that are in store for them. If you have a moment, please stop by her SparkPage ( www.sparkpeople.com/mypage.asp?id=PE
PPERLEAH
) to leave her a love note or an encouraging word or a Goodie, as she so consistently does for all of us who are fortunate enough to call her friend.

Thank you and God bless.
