Day Three

Wednesday, August 10, 2011

Working on day three of starting over. Now I have the added joy of trying to get my Blood Pressure down..You'd think that if you are trying to eat healthy, that sodium wouldn't be an issue, but noooo..It's in EVERYTHING practically. I also need to get my cholesterol down. They called in a prescription to get my cholesterol down too, but I'm hoping that getting my blood pressure and weight loss under control, it will take care of the cholesterol too, without the meds. I am however trying to remember to take the blood pressure medicine...I do forget though on good days.

Today there were supposed to be some heavy storms with lots of high wind, rain and hail..I heard reports of some in our area, but I only saw the heavy rains for a while and thunder &lightning. I worked at my job today and didnt get to go to the Wellness Center for my water workout (lightning).

Yesterday I did alot of overdue housework..Mostly my floors, sweeping, mopping vacuum-ing (sp?)..Anyway I also really cleaned my kitchen, including my fridge, only thing I miss was 1 drawer and the inside of my lower cabinets. Decluttered some in the rest of the house, but not enough..There is one room that is my junk room, need to clean that one. Gonna start working on that one 15 min at a time.

Now I think I will go have a glass of wine (after dishes) and do some reading.

Gone for awhile and need to make changes

Saturday, April 02, 2011

It seems for whatever reasons,..I cannot seem to get motivated, everything from being too busy, to hurting so much, I just don't feel like it, but I need to make changes and get motivated......somehow..

Today I woke up feeling just exhausted and was really hurting in my neck, shoulders and upper back, right around my spine. Really didn't feel like doing anything, but wound going looking for some mythical property...2 acres to be exact that was supposed to be for sale. Maybe it will turn up..

Later in the evening I went to the health food store and bought some more teas, (bought some last night at Kroger) so now I have 3 of the Yogi teas, and a few others. I had Ginger Tea when I got back and boy does that taste take some getting used to.

I also went to Freds and bought some more potting soil and some more shepherds hooks..I have several now, for some of my hanging herb baskets that I put together. I now have lavender, rosemary, thyme, basil, oregano, parsley, lamb's ear, lemon balm, lemon verbena, chives (both garlic and onions), two different kinds of sage, 2 different kinds of peppermint, fennel, dill, and yarrow.

I also went to the Goodwill bookstore and bought some more books... a couple on how to have a healing home and to make your home a sanctuary..and a few books by Laura Childs and Susan Wittig Albert.

For breakfast I had bagels and lox at the Temple, and for lunch I had a plate of Taco Salad at my Mom's and for dinner I had to Organic Beef Hotdogs on Eco Sandwich bread, with a baked potato and a big oatmeal raisin cookie from the health food store with milk.

Gonna have a glass of red wine and read my books..:-)

I took an OTC Prilosec starting today, because of somde digestive troubles and I also took a probiotic with breakfast and one with dinner.

I really hope I get a good night's sleep tonight, cause I haven't had one all week for one reason or another.

I am so sorry that you are feeling so bad and hope that you feel better soon.

I love teas but have found a couple I did not like.

I grow herbs too and love them. I grow most of what you grow plus marjoram and coriander.

I love Goodwill but ours usually does not offer very good books.

Goodbye130, I think you are very right and I hope to start getting plenty of sleep and taking better care of myself.

Vamanos, that is good to know about the Prilosec and calcium. I will keep that in mind.

Asilla, the reason I hung them in baskets (and I used the cocoa baskets) is because I have cats and squirrels and usually my herbs don't do so well..this seems to be better so far.

Could it be that your lack of sleep is hindering your motivation? I know that when my sleep patterns are interrupted then everything feels off.

Take good care of yourself and I'm sure you'll find that motivation somewhere. Come on' just dig deep! emoticon

I really love to hear from you :) you have been a very busy woman! The hanging herb baskets sound fascinating, very good idea. I was thinking about trying to grow some this year but am afraid the critters that live around would eat them all, not sure. Bagel and lox with books and wine sound divine! Hope you get feeling better very soon and are able to enjoy the rest of your weekend.

Wow, it's been a while since we heard from you! Sounds like you've been busy with gardening and making some changes.

I wanted to give you a caution about Prilosec...even though it's the most effective way I found to handle my heartburn before I lost enough weight to keep it at bay. Following my mother's and daughter's advice to just keep taking it because it was prescribed that way for them, I was shocked to learn from my mother that it robs your body of calcium! She now has osteoporosis, and they think it was a major contributing cause. So be sure to get enough calcium while you are taking it! I no longer need it, thank goodness. Hopefully as you lose a few more pounds you'll find the same is true for you. I only had to lose about 15 pounds to completely eliminate it.

Fun Saturday

Saturday, November 13, 2010

I went to work those machines again today and talked to a different trainer. He agreeed that the weight and reps were all off for me..He also changed up some of the machines that I will be using, as the one that bothered my knees was not really a good one for me to be on at this time and it was sooo much better. He really took time to help me and I felt much better about it when I left. Swimming with my snorkel is getting better everyday too and I got in a good swim afte the machines this morning.

Then I went to watch my niece E play basketball and ended up thoroughly enjoying it ( I am not a sports fan, by any stretch of the imagination..lol...but I enjoyed that and spending time with my family . After we got back to my sister's house, she cooked us some homemade beef stew and I had a bowl of that with cornbread, (a small piece). Shot some hoops with my niece E and her aunt on the other side, L. ..Afterwards, my sister C, my 2 nieces E&A and I went for a walk (with 3 dogs as escorts...lol) and it was a great day

Oh and my sister joined SparkPeople today..only I can't find her.. .:-(

Weight Machines

Friday, November 12, 2010

I am 50 years old with Fibro and would like to lift weights. At the Wellness Center last night the trainer started me out on 2 machines for legs and 3 for upper body. Started me on the crunch machine too. I kinda think that the weight was too much for me at this time, just starting out. My knees were bothering me today and I really want to do this. Gonna try again in the morning.

Be sure to let him know you have fibro and use a lower weight to start. I also have fibro and both knees have been replaced so I had to start with a lower amount. Good luck, take it slow and you'll get there.

Quite honestly it wasn't the muscles that were hurting...it was the knee caps. That is what concerned me..Sorry if I didn't make that clear

Please inform your trainer what you felt after weight lifting, and that you have fibro----you need to start out slower than many others. I started out with the lower weight amounts and worked my weights up slowly and that didn;t xcause a lot of problems with the fibro and now the fibro isn't as bad with exercising. I know I'm one of the lucky ones, many with fibro have a difficult time trying to exercise. Slow is the answer for starting out.

Tell your trainer how you feel. Realize that if you walked out feeling great, and felt great the next morning you need to question if your workout was even effective at all?!? I don't have fibro but when I workout I DO want to feel those muscles talking back at me the next day . . . otherwise I feel that the routine I did was not a true workout.

Good Luck!

I agree, discuss it w/ him and maybe start out lower and work up as you go. Great job in starting!

You can set the weights lower - I think it is better to start slow & make sure you are using proper form (and the muscles the machine is designed to work) and then increase the weights as you are able. If you can't increase the weights, you may be able to do more reps or vary the speed of each rep to change the demand on your muscles -

Stick with it if you can -

You need to inform him that with what you have he can't do the same things that he does with some one that does not have fibro. I have lupus and if I push too much on my body then the next day I will pay for it in pain and not the good kind either. So inform him and then take it from there.,

Be sure and discuss this with him. Maybe he needs to go slower.
