Thank you!

Tuesday, November 10, 2009

To everyone that comments on all my blogs..THANK YOU! You guys are great and I'm sure I'd go crazy by now if I wasn't blogging all my frustrations and getting feedback from you all.

I don't have that many friends I talk to nor do I have time to talk to the few I have..and besides they're not married and don't have kids so they can't totally understand what I'm going through and the ones that are married and have kids are in the same boat as me and have no time. So thanks for sticking with me!

I'm doing good this month..busy with work cause nurses are getting sick so I have to cover more shifts...Kitchen not done yet and stressing my and my husband out.

I have 330 mins from just unpacking and doing housework. I will go walking this evening when I take my son to the park. There are 3 parks near me so I'm excited for that.

I really really need to exercise, not to loose weight so much but to lower my cholesterol. When I was pregnant my cholesterol levels started increasing and I found out a month ago it's 306!!! So I've been trying to lower it with diet and exercise, vitamins, etc..not sure what it is right now, but I don't want to go on prescription meds for it. So that's another thing stressing me out.

I've slacked off on the candy..all the chocolates I like are done..so I'm no longer interested in the rest. :-)

Thanks again!

The side benefit of exercising and eating better to lower your cholesterol will be the weight loss...plus you'll have more energy. Keep it up!

Agree with others, it helps when you talk to people sailing in the same boat. Good to know about the parks closeby to ur place, all the more motivation to get out, isn't it? As far as cholesterol is concerned, u shud be fine with all the regular workouts and right nutrition quickly. emoticon

As Madhu says, what are spark friends for? *grin*

I'm sorry to hear that your kitchen is still not done. That has to be so frustrating, especially with young kids. I hope that is finished soon.

Exercise is the best thing you can do for high cholesterol--that and limiting saturated fats from your diet. But have you tried omega-3's? My dad had cholesterol problems, despite the fact that my parents eat a low -fat diet and my dad works out a lot--he just ran a race recently, in fact. So his doctor suggested that he try fish oil supplements, and they have really helped--despite the fact that technically he was adding fat to his diet. My parents don't eat fish because my mom is very allergic to it, but there are lots of foods that have high omega-3's, too. Fish is one of the best, but walnuts have them, and so does flax seed, among others.

New month to get back on track

Wednesday, November 04, 2009

I've had a very busy last week of October and first week of November. Finished packing, and moved last Friday..I'm now unpacking and settling in our new house.

I did not reach my minutes goal last month since I failed to add household chores to my exercise minutes. I plan to start doing that this month. My kitchen is being built from scratch so I haven't cook in the last week and have maybe a week more until it's completed. I've been trying to eat what I have at home but have had take-out almost every other day and have had a at least 1 slice of pizza daily since last Friday...really getting sick of pizza. Not to mention Halloween...I've had more chocolate and candy in the last 4 days than I've had probably had all year. I've limited my son to 2 pcs a day but I need someone to limit me. :-/ I will have to start mothering myself. lol

So this month..my exercise min goal is 500 mins.
I really don't know what my weight is right now because I threw out my scale the day we moved, it wasn't very accurate sometimes...will have to get a new one.

Well..don't have much else to say..just need to start moving.

Wow - that's a lot of chaos and stress. A move to a new home, 2 kids (1 an infant) and no kitchen. Girl - things should get better from here - right?
Hide the candy (that's what I do) Out of sight - Out of mind

Moving is a ton of work--I wouldn't worry about not getting in the formal exercise routine as well. Now that you are moved, you can start getting back into the habit.

It's so hard to eat well while moving! I had all these plans for home coked meals when we moved last spring, and they almost never happened in the middle of the moving chaos--and we didn't have a kitchen under construction. But hopefully your kitchen will be useful again soon, and you'll be able to eat more at home.

So I guess I'm saying don't stress about the move--that's water on the bridge now anyway. So focus on getting back on track as you settle into your new place.

What a bummer!!!!

Monday, October 26, 2009

So the last day I exercised was 10/20 (last tuesday) and have not exercised since..Looks like I will not be able to meet my 2000 min goal. Maybe it was too unrealistic with all that I have going on this month.. I will try extra extra hard this week to get as much in as I can to come close to at least 800 mins. Doing better at sticking to diet at this time.
Next month will be a better month since I'll be done with moving. I am still a little dissappointed with myself.. but will work on staying positive as well.

Yeah, I'd definitely count time spent moving as time spent working out--especially any time spent moving boxes or furniture and the like. It's physically demanding.

I think there's a certain amount of trial and error in figuring out a lifestyle that is both healthy and works for you--and that needs to be constantly re-evaluated as circumstances change. I know that I was doing really well on fitness minutes this summer--lots of "extra" minutes from out door activities, classes, etc. Then the fall weather and fall semester hit and I'm doing well to get 130 minutes in a week so far. And that will only get harder to do as we hit the holidays and the end of semester crunches.

I think it helps if you figure out little ways to add more general activity into your day--like taking the stairs instead of the elevator, or whatever. They add up.

Not exercising doesn't mean your sat on your duff all day. Do you wear a pedometer? I always feel good if I get in over 10,000 steps even if I don't "exercise".
Just a thought... emoticon

It's on!

Sunday, October 18, 2009

I feel a lot better now that everything is falling in place..less stress for me. I walk 4.5 miles on Friday and was super glad I did. After enjoying a day of great food yesterday..I'm getting back on track this week starting today! I'm learning to balance everything, diet, exercise, chores, husband, kids, work, new house, packing, aaaaaahhhhhh..ok it's hurts to think of and list everything thing. I'm just going to work on having a great week.

My first blog!!!

Tuesday, October 13, 2009

So here I am.. today is another day that I intend to exercise to reach my 2000 min monthly goal..which I'm not up to speed on yet. Life has just been extremely busy and demanding and I'm being pulled too many directions, I think. I have a 4 yr old, a new baby, and a new house that I have yet to pack and move into, I work approx 30 hrs a week, and just can't seem to get on track with exercising. I'm working on the eating healthier and drinking 8 glasses of water part and doing fairly well. Part of my problem I guess is being tired with a lack of energy, lack of motivation, and lack of will power. emoticon

Not surprised you're tired - moving is horrendously stressful without the other bits to cope with!

Sit back a mo and concentrate on the bits you ARE achieving - we are all far too good at looking at the bits we don't quite manage - refocus on the good bits, they are what will motivate you to keep at it!!!

Good luck.

Hiya Sharmila. Are those your kids in your picture? They are awfully cute :D

I joined sparks right before moving myself and boy it was crazy---I was trying to work out, do school work (I'm a grad student), move... ai ai ai. I don't have kids but it was challenging enough with what I did have to juggle! And we're still unpacking and putting up shelving and the like. Sometimes I was just so insanely busy--from first thing in the morning until midnight--and other days I was so sore from all the lifting and moving that I couldn't bear the thought of lifting weights or whatever. So I've definitely been there!

My number one advice: do the best you can, without killing yourself or feeling guilty about the things you had to let slide, especially in the middle of a move. Moving is one of life's major stressors for a reason! It's really, really hard to try to get a whole new exercise routine established on top of all that; give yourself some slack until the move is done. Set your priorities and try to keep them in focus, but understand that sometimes you need to be flexible. Even if you only manage to work out a few days a week, and eat healthier than you had previously, that's still a step in the right direction. It's an improvement, and you have an entire lifetime to work on refining it.

And moving--as well as things like painting--also burn a lot of calories in their own right. You can even record moving and painting in sparks. So you may be getting more exercise than you realize, even if you aren't hitting the gym every morning. You can also, as Saasha17 says, squeeze in mini-workouts and still have it be beneficial. I've read about people doing squats when brushing their teeth (a good way to insure you brush for the recommended 2 minutes as well, I guess.) or curling the milk jug in the morning while getting breakfast. My doctor told me to stretch every morning while taking my shower. You can push yourself when you clean the house to make it more of a work out, and pace while talking on the phone, and things like that--little things individually, but they can add up. Every little bit counts.

Also, anything you can do with your kids kills two birds with one stone. My brother used to take his daughter for long walks in her stroller. You can play tag with the older boy, things like that--quality time with your children and yet physical activity for you.

I know you can do it! Best of luck with your move and everything; may everything go smoothly for you.

Dang - You really need a buddy. Any luck finding someone on the Fort Lauderdale Team? Are there any "New Mom" groups in your area?

I know this sounds counter intuitive, but physical activity will GIVE you energy.

Good luck girl - hope things work out for you.

Is there anyone who can help you out? Like maybe by watching the kids for a hour a few times a week so you could walk/run/do whatever kind of exercise you like? Hopefully once you finally get moved in to your new house things will settle down a bit and you'll be able to carve out time for yourself. And don't forget...all that packing, lifting and moving boxes is exercise too!
