First race of 2013.....

Saturday, February 16, 2013

...and my first blog of 2013.
Today I ran my first race of 2013. I remember when i signed up for my first race in March 2012, I was scared and excited at the same time. I was just hoping to finish the race alive. Now that I've run a few more races, I know that there's nothing scary about the races.
Today I ran my first race of 2013 and won first place in my age group with a time of 25:23.

I'll be running another race next Saturday then the Saturday after I get to re-run my virgin race, now this is very exciting, i can't wait to see how I do. These races are the only thing that keeps me on track, I want to do well each time so I have to prepare well for them. Anyway, I know I didn't do this all alone. I got the idea and encouragement from SP and SP members who were very encouraging and cheering me on. Thank you everyone, because of you, I have lost close to 60lbs and counting!

What 2012 has been like for me

Monday, December 31, 2012

I joined SP in October 2011 @ about 210 and by Jan of 2012, I was down to about 188 lbs. At the close of 2012, I now weigh 154 lbs!

emoticon emoticon

At the beginning of 2012 I was wearing size 16 clothes or XLarge, now I wear size 8 or mediums! Even the bra sizes have dropped!!!

emoticon emoticon

I have learnt to prepare meals that I love, I eat a filling breakfast every morning and pack lunch everyday! I also remember to exercise on a regular basis.

I ran my first 5K in March, ran many more since then and even ran a 10K. I managed to win a few awards in my age group and on two occasions won the top female, one of which got me a 6-month free membership to a wonderful local gym! I even got my hubby to run a couple of races with me.

I have received so many complements from friends, coworkers, and family about my transformation. I look back at some old pictures and can't believe my eyes either.

emoticon emoticon

So I have to say overall 2012 has been a great success for me, thanks to SP and all the wonderful success stories of SP members that kept me motivated as well as encouragement from SP friends! I'm looking forward to a great 2013 as well, I still have about 15 more lbs that I would like to shed before I can get into maintenance mode. I also hope to run a half marathon or do a triathlon in 2013!

Running my first 10k tomorrow

Sunday, September 02, 2012

New pair of running shoes, a new set of earphones with a hook that wraps around the ear, a new 10k playlist, check, check, and check! All set for tomorrow's 10 k race, my first one. Since I started participating in races this year, I've been to a 5 k race almost every month, so now it's on to a 10k. I'm excited and scared at the same time, reminds me of how anxious I was before my very first race. Once I conquer this one, my next goal is to run both (5k and 10k) at the same event, and then in future a triathlon or half marathon!

A non-scale victory

Friday, July 27, 2012

Well, the scale has been good to me but this victory is worth sharing. The other day my 10 year old came home from playing with her friend from next door and she tells me something very interesting. Her friend's grandma had previously spoken with someone who thought she saw my daughter in Walmart the other day with a college student about 24/25 - year old (we live in a college town so there are lots of college students). The grandma then said to this person that maybe my daughter was with her mother because her mother has lost a lot of weight lately. So to be sure, they asked my daughter if she'd been to walmart lately with a college student and of course my daughter says no, so it's confirmed that the 24/25 - year old looking "college student" was me! Yay to me because I'm waaaay older.

Made an unusual observation at the pool

Friday, July 06, 2012

So the other day at the swimming pool I realized I can't float easily anymore. Floating used to be so easy but I guess I've torched so much of the fat , now there's more lean muscle and I'm having trouble floating. I guess the extra fat served an important purpose after all.

I am positively buoyant. Great for swimming, not so great for scuba diving.

Not sure I'll ever become negatively buoyant, or even just neuturaly buoyant. But hope springs eternal!

At every weight and age, I've always been a sinker. I can play in the water, like frisbee, I do the aerobics, but never could swim, so I am jealous.

I ve been mixing up things, especially the workouts. I use a stationary bike, play tennis, swim a little, and lately I've been running a lot. Since joining sp, I've lost close to 50 lbs
