"A man who wants something will find a way;
a man who doesn’t will find an excuse.”

I have found so many excuses recently!! NOT GOOD!!

It is time to really want to get my diet and exercise program back under control. I had lost a few pounds, but have gained them back plus a couple. I know what to do to lose - so I really don't have an excuse for the weight gain.

My son has lost about 20 pounds recently - except that his lose is due to stress at work. That is not the way I want to lose.

I did find an article about each day journaling 5 things I am thankful for - I think that is my key. When I am thankful, I feel so much better physically and spiritually. And then am more motivated to take control of my day!!

The Bible

Tuesday, April 23, 2013

Got this from my sister this evening. I have been doing quite a bit of Bible study the past couple of weeks - we are studying Genesis in our Sunday School class. Amazing - the beginning of everything - including even time itself.

Linda's Tree

Tuesday, April 23, 2013

This poem keeps running thru my mind this morning for some reason. The picture is of the tree that was in the front yard of my sister when she lived in Brookings on the Oregon coast.

Joyce Kilmer. 1886–1918

I think that I shall never see
A poem lovely as a tree.

A tree whose hungry mouth is prest
Against the sweet earth's flowing breast;

A tree that looks at God all day,
And lifts her leafy arms to pray;

A tree that may in summer wear
A nest of robins in her hair;

Upon whose bosom snow has lain;
Who intimately lives with rain.

Poems are made by fools like me,
But only God can make a tree.

    The Sons of the Pioneers also made a song out of that poem. Lovely.
I first heard it when our teacher read it aloud in our 5th grade class.
Thank you Mrs. Beard & Sons of Pioneers & now you!

April - Where is it going??

Wednesday, April 10, 2013

It is already the 10 and I am just getting into April. No celebrations this month - but I am so ready to start weeding and planting. Lots of beautiful daffodils and tulips blooming. My tulips are in a shaded area so the buds are just starting to show -so will be a while before the actually bloom.

I am so enjoying our knitting group. We meet Monday afternoons and Tuesday evenings. And I am getting lots of knitting done - am making good headway on the yarn stash I have. Next week will be the 3rd anniversary of the restaurant where we meet. And, they are going to set up a potato bar for us. So sweet. They are a great group and have really spoiled us there.

I just finished some grocery shopping at WalMart. I really prefer Safeway, but there are a number of items that are quite a bit cheaper at WalMart - and some things I cannot get at Safeway.

Also stopped at the club and did my walk on the treadmill. I did not go last week - did some walking in the neighborhood. But, I find that I really do better if I do even 10 minutes every day at the club - seems to keep me more motivated!!

Well, enough rambling for the afternoon. It is overcast and windy this afternoon. A good afternoon to knit and watch another episode of my series. Right now am watching Alias on netflix.

Hope everyone is having a good week - eating well and getting lots of exercise!!

    Your April sounds nice and springlike Barb, ours is still cold and frosty though some hardy flowers are slowly appearing.

My back's playing up with the Kidney infection so I might get a bit more done on my new kneeler I've started, I'll take pix and post to Flickr.

A New Challenge

Saturday, March 30, 2013

I have entered a few challenges and then have fallen by the wayside. But this month I am determined to actually complete a couple of challenges.

The first comes from the knitting group. It involves using up some of the yarn I have stashed. I do not have very much, but am looking at what I do have and how I can utilize those yarns. Will report later.

The second challenge is the "Rise and Shine" challenge on the Daily Spark. It is two-fold. Eat a healthy breakfast and exercise at least 10 minutes first thing in the morning - every day!! I am eating breakfast every morning, but do not exercise first thing. That will definitely be a challenge for me. Mostly I walk - either on the treadmill or outside - most every afternoon. So first thing in the morning will take some doing!!

Have my daily planner out and am putting these on my schedule for each day. I laugh at the "schedule" idea tho since I am retired and really do not have much of a schedule to keep. Well, I suppose I really do. Let's see:

Monday: the knitting group from 1:30 to about 3;

Tuesday: meet with Elaine for Bible study from 10 - 11:30 and knitting group again from 6 - 8 p.m.:

Wednesday: Bible study at the church 6:30 - 8;

Thursday: Meet Elaine at the church for a time of Prayer and the card ministry we have started.

Sunday: Sunday School and Chursh from 9:30 - 12 and Circle of Sisters (at church) 6 - 8 p.m.

And dinner out with my oldest son. We were meeting Sat evening, but his schedule is changing at work, so will vary for a while. Next week it will be Tuesday evening. We usually meet at WalMart in the video section, shop a bit and then go somewhere for dinner. Last week we went to Shari's for breakfast - I think we will be going to TacoBell next. We have been craving tacos.

Now, that I have written all of this guess it is time to do some of that exercising. 10 minutes is really not very long - very doable.!!

Whatever your challenge is I want to wish you the very best!! I can do it!! You can do it!! We can do it!!
