Here I Am, Again!!!

Friday, August 17, 2012

I have not added a blog in quite a while - have not been really busy (I am retired), but just distracted by life.

I live in a very dysfunctional family - I know all families do have their issue - and we do have differences, but also with my 5 children there is no relationship between any 2 of them. They just live their separate lives - Somehow thru the years it has just been easier for them to separate rather that to face their different beliefs and ways of life.

Many times I have felt like I was just going between them trying to keep some peace - or trying to relate to each one without upsetting my relationship with the others. What a cycle!!!!

However, I have found an inner peace that completely outweighs all the heartache I have experienced. God has always been my Tower of Strength and Comfort. He is the One Who has kept me and He is the One I can always turn to.

And, I have so enjoyed many friendships here on SparkPeople!! So much encouragement and support and caring. And, have just joined the SparkCoach program. I love the way it is integrated into the program I already have going. And, I truly am motivated by the daily videos from the coaches. Each day there is a challenge along with so many other great tips to keep me moving thru the day. For me, it is worth every cent spent. Thank you so much, SparkPeople for this added bonus!!

Today's challenge is to create a visual. I have thought about this for so long, but have just never done. Was not sure how to or where to start - so today out come my magazines (I really do not have many) and will see what i can come up with. Or, may create something on my computer.

We are quite warm here in Pendleton - about 100 each day. Thank You, God, for the a/c. Don't think I would survive without it - and our great little fans that just keep going and going.

I'm trying the new Sparkcoach programme too Barb, I'm not sure if I'll keep on after the two week free trial though, it's not a lot different to what i already do.

And I was just saying my self in a post that Spark Coach has really changed me.. I have done a vision board.. don't think you have to work on it all at once.. think of it like a quilt.. piece by piece day by day.. Good luck emoticon emoticon emoticon

What A Day!!

Tuesday, June 26, 2012

Right now am enjoying a glass of wine - I don't have wine very often - so it is really a treat. And, after today, I feel like I need it!!

I stopped at JC Penneys and picked up a pair of shoes I had ordered - Skechers - and they are wonderful. I have needed new shoes for quite a while so am so glad I just ordered them!!

Then went to my daughter's for a while - she is having a hard day - her washing machine has quit (there are 4 of them in the home) and the dishwasher is kaput!! And, her computer was not working - she is a nurse and had some work she needed to do on it. - so the repair man was there. She felt overwhelmed and so did I!! Just wish I could make it all better -

After about an hour there I went to the club for about 15 minutes on the treadmill. While there I Iistened to a favorite minister on my mp3 player. So comforting and refreshing.

Then to Safeway for another episode. Their "Just 4 U" program does not always work. I picked up some ground beef that was supposed to be $2.39 a pound with the coupon on my Safeway card. However, it did not take off the discount - so I insisted. The clerk said she could take the charges off - but I told her I wanted the meat. So she had to get a manager to check my card to verify that I did have the coupon on it. Glad I did - saved over $5.

Now am home and getting ready to fix dinner - think it will be spaghetti this evening - that is my comfort food!! Am so glad I have such a peaceful apartment to come home to - and a son who is so easy going.

These things are sent to try us Barb...lol...it sounds as though you really needed the glass of wine! I don't drink myself but I'm glad you enjoyed your little treat.
Good for you for sticking to your guns at the supermarket, these big firms make more than enough out of us already!
Hope today is better for you emoticon

What a riot! Not much of a road trip for the goats. Must have been fun watching them. I wouldn't have gotten anything done all day!

We Have Goats!!

Sunday, June 24, 2012

Well, we had a visit of goats yesterday. The city had about 750 goats brought from Idaho to our fair city. Their "job" was to clean up the undergrowth along the river. The herders came from Peru. Not sure how often this is done, but the residents who have lived in these apartments for a number of years were really excited. They had witnessed this event before. Sections are fenced in and the goats are there for about a day. Then they are moved down to the next section.

Well, yesterday they arrived in our "backyard" First the fence was put up and then the goats arrived. Oh, so cute!!. My son said he had never thought of goats as being cute, but by the end of the day we were all scheming as to how we could kidnap one and keep it here for a pet!!

They ate and ate - and really cleaned out from the edge of our lawn to the river. At one point 4 escaped and were headed toward the parking lot. But, one of the herders was quick to catch them. He opened a part of the fence and shooed them back in. Today they are to be closer to the bridge but still part behind our apartment - so will be seeing them again today.

They are arriving:

Here is a cutie!!

Some escaped. The herder was quick to chase them back, pull down part of the fence, and get them back inside!

Here is one of the "herders":

Lovely pictures Barb, they're doing a good job. We use sheep over here to keep the churchyards and the old cemetery clean, they do a grand job.

My friend Penny kept two pygmy goats for years. Oh1 so cute but very destructive, you can't keep any foliage of any description, they even had a go at her washing one day!...lol...

Thanks so much for the pics and the story! What a fun way to cut the grass. Cleveland is using some sheep to do similar duty. I hope it works well.

I've read about this. Here in the south they use the goats to get rid of the kudzu. I would have loved to be there to see them. Loved your pictures.

A Call to my Daughter!!

Friday, June 22, 2012

Yesterday I called my daughter, Vicki, and we had a great visit! She was much more in touch - she told me her sons are not 19 and 23, that she lives in Salem and I am in Pendleton. The conversation was mostly "normal" She does use the word "quintation" frequently - for names of places and people. She told me that she had gone to Quintation for lunch. But, it was so good to be able to talk to her. Just as we were saying goodbye, she said she would call me later this week.

Here is Vicki calling her Grandmother! This was when she about about 2 - a "few" years ago!

I'm so pleased Vicki is progressing well Barb, it's been a long haul but it must be so hearting for you to talk with her, being such a long way off.
That's real progress for her too.
When my auntie had a stroke she called a lot of things 'fork', usually she was trying to get the name of someone when she did it...lol...but eventually it came back to her. I know a stroke is different to vicki's condition but the brain is pretty similar how it copes.

She looks so cute in the picture 'phoning her gran...aaaw!
Have you sent her this one, she'll love it!
