A Call to my Daughter!!

Friday, June 22, 2012

Yesterday I called my daughter, Vicki, and we had a great visit! She was much more in touch - she told me her sons are not 19 and 23, that she lives in Salem and I am in Pendleton. The conversation was mostly "normal" She does use the word "quintation" frequently - for names of places and people. She told me that she had gone to Quintation for lunch. But, it was so good to be able to talk to her. Just as we were saying goodbye, she said she would call me later this week.

Here is Vicki calling her Grandmother! This was when she about about 2 - a "few" years ago!

I'm so pleased Vicki is progressing well Barb, it's been a long haul but it must be so hearting for you to talk with her, being such a long way off.
That's real progress for her too.
When my auntie had a stroke she called a lot of things 'fork', usually she was trying to get the name of someone when she did it...lol...but eventually it came back to her. I know a stroke is different to vicki's condition but the brain is pretty similar how it copes.

She looks so cute in the picture 'phoning her gran...aaaw!
Have you sent her this one, she'll love it!

Cool This Morning

Tuesday, June 19, 2012

This is June and it is still so cool and a bit overcast! Oh, yeah, Summer is not here until isn't is about the 20th?? Oh, and that is tomorrow! YEAH!! I think I am the only one in my family who is looking forward to those long, hot Summer days!! Like my Mother, the heat does not bother me.

I have dome a bit of sewing - there is a website that occasionally has a mystery quilt block and have that almost finished. So fun to pick the colors and not have any idea about what you will end up with. This time ii is the "Comedy/Tragedy" Masks. Not sure how they are supposed to fit together but I'm working on it. Also am finishing some quilted potholders.

My granddaughters have started swimming for the summer - I will be picking up Jenni about 9:15 - they start at 7 each morning - their Dad takes them and I will be taking them home part of the time.

And, will be meeting Elaine for coffee this morning. That is a highlight for my week - always enjoy my time with her.

Well, off to get ready.

As a quilter I understand your excitement on the mystery block. I'm more controllling though. I tend to want to know what it looks like because I'm afraid I will have wasted my time if I end up not liking it. But, I do them anyway and so far so good!

Enjoy your hot summer and quilting.

Beginning Another Week

Sunday, June 17, 2012

What a week! Just finished a week of VBS at church and it was "awesome!" We had about 50 children and they learned about trusting God - not matter who they are, where they are or what is happening around them. It was a very busy week!

Now my calendar is mostly empty for this week - and I am so happy! By the end of the week, I was "pooped" - I just do not have the energy any more to keep up with that level of activity and excitement. Oh, but it was so worth it - (and I did nap every afternoon - don't think I would have made it otherwise.)

Am holding my weight loss - rather surprised because I have not been charting my diet this past week. However, I have found that I am just not "hungry". Just not time to think about food which has been my comfort when I am feeling alone. Well, I was not alone this past week!!

Now I want to loose another couple of pounds in the next month. I would love to get to about 182 - 184 by August when I meet my son in Hood River. That would be great!! And, with summer here and more outside activities it may just happen. Oh, I would be so happy!! I am putting aside a few $$ to reward myself on that trip if I can get my weight down there. There are some great shops there and am sure I can find just the right item!!

Who Am I??

Saturday, June 09, 2012

Was just "surfing" the web and found this "This is your life! Are you doing what you want to do?" But, today I am not even sure I know who I am.

I could sit here and moan and feel sorry for myself - but I am not going to!! So am going to get up and make a plan for the day:
1. Plan dinner for this evening when Greg, #2 child, comes for dinner.
2. Run a few errands - pick up a few needed groceries and to WalMart to get myself a couple more sweatshirts. Not sure is we are going to have a summer. Oh, I know we will eventually, but it is still cool, breezy and rainy.
3. Begin a Bible study that I receive by email. From www.jesuswalk.com - this study is about the Names of God - have done before, but it is so very good.
4. Fix dinner for this evening and enjoy a time with 2 of my boys.

But, is this what defines me? Who am I really?? What makes me tick? Haven't heard that phrase for quite a while. Need to explore that thought for a while!

My Weekend!!

Saturday, June 02, 2012

Yesterday was in the 80's - and a bit muggy! This morning got up to rain and in the mid 50's - now that is better. Oh wait - it is almost summer - so those warm days will come! I really do not mind the heat - but it really bothers my son.

This evening Greg will be over for dinner - think I will fix baked chicken - quick and easy. I was going to fix some jello last night, but there was none in the cupboard. I think Geoff has been using it dry on his ice cream.

I watched a good movie yesterday evening - "The First Grader" - about an 84 year old Kenyan man who holds record for being the oldest person to start school. This was in 2004 - I do not remember it being in the news. How sad - most of our news now is so negative!! He recently died and again, very little in the news.

We had roast chicken on Friday too Barb and I made a sugar free jelly!! I've never thought of using it dry, sounds a nice topping.

Lovely to see your taking pictures again Barb, it's nice to see your patio area, the pots of flowers look very healthy.

It's our National Diamond Jubilee celebrations this week-end, starts the 1st through to the 5th to mark Queen Elizabeth the 2nd being on the throne for sixty years. She's equalled the record of Queen Victoria who was previously our longest reigning monarch.
Celebrations are planned all over the country.
One of the things the Queen personally asked for is towns and villages everywhere sharing a huge street party /picnic today at one o'clock and, of course, it's pouring down!
It might fair up for then but it looks pretty black.
Our village had a children's tea party on Friday and yesterday was a hog roast and dance.
Today as well as the picnic we have a united Church service, a classic car parade through the village, a gala event with stalls and games and the children have a home made cart race down a bit of a hill near the school.
Tomorrow it's a procession of floats from various organisations in the village, stalls and carboot sale, a strawberries & cream tea, it's a knock-out games and children's disco and Tuesday it's a tug-of-war and we're finishing the celebarations off with a balloon release and an evening dance in the village hall.
A busy week-end!
