My Weekend!!

Saturday, June 02, 2012

Yesterday was in the 80's - and a bit muggy! This morning got up to rain and in the mid 50's - now that is better. Oh wait - it is almost summer - so those warm days will come! I really do not mind the heat - but it really bothers my son.

This evening Greg will be over for dinner - think I will fix baked chicken - quick and easy. I was going to fix some jello last night, but there was none in the cupboard. I think Geoff has been using it dry on his ice cream.

I watched a good movie yesterday evening - "The First Grader" - about an 84 year old Kenyan man who holds record for being the oldest person to start school. This was in 2004 - I do not remember it being in the news. How sad - most of our news now is so negative!! He recently died and again, very little in the news.

We had roast chicken on Friday too Barb and I made a sugar free jelly!! I've never thought of using it dry, sounds a nice topping.

Lovely to see your taking pictures again Barb, it's nice to see your patio area, the pots of flowers look very healthy.

It's our National Diamond Jubilee celebrations this week-end, starts the 1st through to the 5th to mark Queen Elizabeth the 2nd being on the throne for sixty years. She's equalled the record of Queen Victoria who was previously our longest reigning monarch.
Celebrations are planned all over the country.
One of the things the Queen personally asked for is towns and villages everywhere sharing a huge street party /picnic today at one o'clock and, of course, it's pouring down!
It might fair up for then but it looks pretty black.
Our village had a children's tea party on Friday and yesterday was a hog roast and dance.
Today as well as the picnic we have a united Church service, a classic car parade through the village, a gala event with stalls and games and the children have a home made cart race down a bit of a hill near the school.
Tomorrow it's a procession of floats from various organisations in the village, stalls and carboot sale, a strawberries & cream tea, it's a knock-out games and children's disco and Tuesday it's a tug-of-war and we're finishing the celebarations off with a balloon release and an evening dance in the village hall.
A busy week-end!

A Couple More Pounds Gone!!

Sunday, May 27, 2012

YOO HOO!! My weight ticker just went down a couple more notches. Have been really watching my diet each day - one thing I am gradually decreasing is cheese - I love cheese!! That has been a favorite snack in the evenings. But, have been eating popcorn. Plain popped in the microwave with a bit of melted butter - and no salt.

And, have been MOVING! Not counting the steps so much, but just moving more and more each day. I love to knit and hand piece quilt tops and read - so do a lot of sitting. But, now limit my sitting time - even have my timer set to remind me to get up.

Yesterday evening Greg came for dinner and a movie. Fixed tacos - his favorite. And, he brought us a BluRay player for our TV. So we connected it and watched a movie from netflix.com. The movie was Legally Blonde 2 - just as good as the first one. Wonder if they will make a #3. Hope so.

Well, my timer just went off!! - So better get off my duff and move a bit - but I will be back!

Congrats on losing 2 more pounds!! WOOT!! Like you cheese is one of my favorite snacks and goes hand-in-hand with hamburgers and sandwiches. Cheese was one of my downfalls. I have cut it out of my diet and don't really miss it much. Since I normally had around 200 to 400 calories of cheese I have now replaced it with other filling foods that I can have more, such as rice with milk and Splenda. I consume less calories and I like it.

Lunch with Granddaughter!

Friday, May 25, 2012

This morning I went to McKay School to have lunch with my 5th grade granddaughter. It was so fun as usual. We had bbq with potato salad, baked beans, watermelon, and cake. I was going to take pictures on the playground, but the bell rang and it was time for her to go back to class. We just spent too long eating and visiting with her friends and their grandmothers! But I did get one picture - Jill is the one on the right.

Yesterday was Full!!

Sunday, May 20, 2012

Yesterday morning went to the church for a "Gal's Retreat" - a very good friend led it. First we met in the sanctuary for a time of Bible study and sharing. Then to the Parlor for a "coffee break. Some had brought some tasty goodies - had half of a peach muffin - sooo gooood.

Then we did a craft - we made beaded bracelets - well, Lisa showed us how - similar to macrame - only a couple actually finished. The rest of us brought them home to finish. Really cute. May make some with my granddaughters. Then back to the sanctuary and another friend shared with us. It was about 12:30 when I finally left.

My friend Elaine was there so of course we had to chat for a bit in the parking lot afterward.

My daughter had called so went by her house for about an hour - they have 4 new kittens - so very cute. Then to the grocery store for a few things for supper. Home to fix meatloaf and mashed potatoes for my boy for dinner (this is their favorite). We watched "Somewhere in Time" - an older Christopher Reeve movie. Had been a long time since I had seen it and had forgotten most of it.

Finally to bed about 10:30. Al in all - it was a good day!

Had a good visit with Elaine at the coffee shop yesterday. She got her hair cut - a pixie cut - so cute on her. Then did some grocery shopping.

Today am just doing some cleaning - mopping, vacuuming, have another plant to get into the ground.

And, am reading the second book of "The Hunger Games".
