Days Lost - But Not the Year

Wednesday, March 21, 2012

I feel like I have really lost ground this past week. Have not been to the club for a few days - and walked outside only one day. I did a little yard cleanup, but it is still to early here to do very much. So my trusty pedometer has not racked up as many steps for me.

But, looks like from the calendar that Spring is here!!! So it is time to get back in gear - and MOVE!!

This is about how I spent the past week -

Even had that hamburger last night. But, at least, it was homemade and not from the DQ or McDonalds.

Just read a devotional for today entitled "Motivation Matters". Think about the level of excitement and motivation that comes with things that are new.....new beginnings, new relationships, new exercise routines. But, over time that sense of excitement and involvement can diminish and become routine.

One of the great things about SparkPeople is the feeling of newness and dedication each day. And, the encouragement and empathy shared by others on the site. I have made a number of friends - literally around the world - friends I may not know face to face, but friends who share the same goal of better health and a fuller life...... friends who encourage me when I fall and cheer me on when I succeed.

Here is a quote from the devotional:

“Beginning well is a momentary thing; finishing well is a lifelong thing.” Ravi Zacharias

Another Week

Monday, March 05, 2012

Did not get to the club this past week as often as I had planned - but will do better this week. Want to get different headphones for my MP3 player - the ones I have are the cheap ones that came with it and they just do not stay on very well. Will get to BiMart tomorrow to pick up some new ones.

Spent about 20 minutes on the treadmill today - then to Safeway for groceries. So got in my steps for the day. Am slowly increasing that number at least.

Tomorrow will be meeting Elaine for coffee - I ordered tatting shuttles for us so we are going to see if we can figure out the directions that she has. Will be fun to learn something fairly new. I did try once before - my Mother tatted and showed me the basics, but I never did anything with the craft. I do have a couple of handkerchiefs with edgings that she tatted. Would love to do at least that much.

This picture of Elaine was taken at the Pendleton Round-Up a couple of years ago. She is such a sweetheart!!

Just had an orange for my evening snack - they are so juicy and sweet this year. One of my favorite fruits.

I used to tat Barb, haven't done any for ages. I'll have to see if I can find my shuttle and threads and have another go.
Have a lovely morning with Elaine, I'm going out with my friend Judy this afternoon emoticon

The Club

Tuesday, February 28, 2012

Well, my trips to the 24-Hour Fitness Club are slowly beginning to pay off! Have lost about a pound and am feeling so much more energetic. I have been spending only about 30 minutes there about 3 or 4 times a week for the past month, so it is time to start increasing some. I do the elliptical about 5 minutes and the treadmill about 20 minutes. Also, a couple of other pieces of equipment - there are so many to choose from.

My daughter started going and invited me to go with her and now I am hooked. It is a good place for us to meet and get caught up - and when she does not go, I listen to a message by Jon Courson on my mp3 player. (He is pastor of the Applegate Christian Fellowship in Southern Oregon and has a profound understanding of the Bible - and quite a testimony).

This morning will be meeting a friend for coffee - we have been meeting Tuesday mornings for a couple of months - she is a knitter like I am so we have lots to share. And, we have been talking about tatting recently - a lost art. My Mother tatted - just wish I had some of her pieces - not sure what happened to them. Elaine has tatted before so have ordered a couple of shuttles for us and will see if we can figure it out.

Then to the library to return a couple of books and pick up another. And, definitely the club

Have been reading some articles here about being sugar free - found some really good suggestions. And, I have found some that will work for me. I have started drinking more water!! YEAH!! Have a pink hob-nail glass that I love - fill it with ice and water and find myself actually drinking more. It stays with me all day -

Also, I am a coffee drinker. At home I add a couple tsp of sugar and milk. but out I drink it black. Now, why can't I drink it black at home??? So that will be my next goal. Should be easier as I drink more water.

At bedtime I have a Peppermint Patty - I do love them. So, will find another treat that will satisfy me. Gotta think about that one?!?!? That one will be hard.

Had a good morning out. Usually meet a friend for coffee, but she did not show so I just went shopping. To WalMart for some yarn for a baby sweater and a case for some of our DVD movies. Then to the library for a book. Found a Ted Dekker book - love his writings. Mailed our latest netflix - we have been watching "Northern Exposure" - what a funny series. Now home - drinking that ice water and ready to start my book. Oh, and found a cute BBC series on netfilx - "A Fine Romance" - what a cute show.

    That brings back memories Barb.
'A Fine Romance' with Dame Judi Dench and her real life husband Michael Williams, it was a good series and a top show in it's time. Sadly Michael died so the series ended. Glad you're enjoying it.
I'm watching one of your old US shows...lol...Judge Judy from 2002, I love it...seems there are idiots the world over and she has so much contempt for them, we need more like her!

What's a peppermint Patty?
She was a character in Charlie Brown but I think yours must be some kind of sweet treat!
