Life of Troubles

Sunday, March 25, 2012

Am watching a cute movie on netflix.com - The Whale of August, starring Bette Davis and Lillian Gish with Ann Southern.

Just heard a great quote: "Half of life is troubles, and the other half is getting over them!" I think I like the "getting over" part best.

Walk Around the Block

Sunday, March 25, 2012

Friday I took a short walk in our neighborhood. This time I remembered my camera and took a few snapshots to share.

Out the front door - this is the entry way to our apartment and the house across the street. There are some beautiful older homes here in Pendleton -

This apartment building is just across the street. I have often wondered when it what build and what it was built for.

This park is where I have spent many hours watching my granddaughters play in the "castle". A very popular park in the summer.

Here is one of the homes.

And another home along the walk:

This was the library when I lived here in the late 70s and is now the Art Center. They have many programs for the youth in our little community.

Here is the First Christian Church on the corner. They just celebrated their 100th Anniversary.

And then back home.

Such beautiful buildings Barb, they are my quintessential idea of the old colonial style homes you have, you live in a beautiful neighbourhood.

Days Lost - But Not the Year

Wednesday, March 21, 2012

I feel like I have really lost ground this past week. Have not been to the club for a few days - and walked outside only one day. I did a little yard cleanup, but it is still to early here to do very much. So my trusty pedometer has not racked up as many steps for me.

But, looks like from the calendar that Spring is here!!! So it is time to get back in gear - and MOVE!!

This is about how I spent the past week -

Even had that hamburger last night. But, at least, it was homemade and not from the DQ or McDonalds.

Motivation

Saturday, March 10, 2012

Just read a devotional for today entitled "Motivation Matters". Think about the level of excitement and motivation that comes with things that are new.....new beginnings, new relationships, new exercise routines. But, over time that sense of excitement and involvement can diminish and become routine.

One of the great things about SparkPeople is the feeling of newness and dedication each day. And, the encouragement and empathy shared by others on the site. I have made a number of friends - literally around the world - friends I may not know face to face, but friends who share the same goal of better health and a fuller life...... friends who encourage me when I fall and cheer me on when I succeed.

Here is a quote from the devotional:

“Beginning well is a momentary thing; finishing well is a lifelong thing.” Ravi Zacharias

Another Week

Monday, March 05, 2012

Did not get to the club this past week as often as I had planned - but will do better this week. Want to get different headphones for my MP3 player - the ones I have are the cheap ones that came with it and they just do not stay on very well. Will get to BiMart tomorrow to pick up some new ones.

Spent about 20 minutes on the treadmill today - then to Safeway for groceries. So got in my steps for the day. Am slowly increasing that number at least.

Tomorrow will be meeting Elaine for coffee - I ordered tatting shuttles for us so we are going to see if we can figure out the directions that she has. Will be fun to learn something fairly new. I did try once before - my Mother tatted and showed me the basics, but I never did anything with the craft. I do have a couple of handkerchiefs with edgings that she tatted. Would love to do at least that much.

This picture of Elaine was taken at the Pendleton Round-Up a couple of years ago. She is such a sweetheart!!

Just had an orange for my evening snack - they are so juicy and sweet this year. One of my favorite fruits.

I used to tat Barb, haven't done any for ages. I'll have to see if I can find my shuttle and threads and have another go.
Have a lovely morning with Elaine, I'm going out with my friend Judy this afternoon emoticon
