Another Week

Monday, March 05, 2012

Did not get to the club this past week as often as I had planned - but will do better this week. Want to get different headphones for my MP3 player - the ones I have are the cheap ones that came with it and they just do not stay on very well. Will get to BiMart tomorrow to pick up some new ones.

Spent about 20 minutes on the treadmill today - then to Safeway for groceries. So got in my steps for the day. Am slowly increasing that number at least.

Tomorrow will be meeting Elaine for coffee - I ordered tatting shuttles for us so we are going to see if we can figure out the directions that she has. Will be fun to learn something fairly new. I did try once before - my Mother tatted and showed me the basics, but I never did anything with the craft. I do have a couple of handkerchiefs with edgings that she tatted. Would love to do at least that much.

This picture of Elaine was taken at the Pendleton Round-Up a couple of years ago. She is such a sweetheart!!

Just had an orange for my evening snack - they are so juicy and sweet this year. One of my favorite fruits.

I used to tat Barb, haven't done any for ages. I'll have to see if I can find my shuttle and threads and have another go.
Have a lovely morning with Elaine, I'm going out with my friend Judy this afternoon emoticon

The Club

Tuesday, February 28, 2012

Well, my trips to the 24-Hour Fitness Club are slowly beginning to pay off! Have lost about a pound and am feeling so much more energetic. I have been spending only about 30 minutes there about 3 or 4 times a week for the past month, so it is time to start increasing some. I do the elliptical about 5 minutes and the treadmill about 20 minutes. Also, a couple of other pieces of equipment - there are so many to choose from.

My daughter started going and invited me to go with her and now I am hooked. It is a good place for us to meet and get caught up - and when she does not go, I listen to a message by Jon Courson on my mp3 player. (He is pastor of the Applegate Christian Fellowship in Southern Oregon and has a profound understanding of the Bible - and quite a testimony).

This morning will be meeting a friend for coffee - we have been meeting Tuesday mornings for a couple of months - she is a knitter like I am so we have lots to share. And, we have been talking about tatting recently - a lost art. My Mother tatted - just wish I had some of her pieces - not sure what happened to them. Elaine has tatted before so have ordered a couple of shuttles for us and will see if we can figure it out.

Then to the library to return a couple of books and pick up another. And, definitely the club
!

Sugar-Free

Tuesday, January 24, 2012

Have been reading some articles here about being sugar free - found some really good suggestions. And, I have found some that will work for me. I have started drinking more water!! YEAH!! Have a pink hob-nail glass that I love - fill it with ice and water and find myself actually drinking more. It stays with me all day -

Also, I am a coffee drinker. At home I add a couple tsp of sugar and milk. but out I drink it black. Now, why can't I drink it black at home??? So that will be my next goal. Should be easier as I drink more water.

At bedtime I have a Peppermint Patty - I do love them. So, will find another treat that will satisfy me. Gotta think about that one?!?!? That one will be hard.

Had a good morning out. Usually meet a friend for coffee, but she did not show so I just went shopping. To WalMart for some yarn for a baby sweater and a case for some of our DVD movies. Then to the library for a book. Found a Ted Dekker book - love his writings. Mailed our latest netflix - we have been watching "Northern Exposure" - what a funny series. Now home - drinking that ice water and ready to start my book. Oh, and found a cute BBC series on netfilx - "A Fine Romance" - what a cute show.

    That brings back memories Barb.
'A Fine Romance' with Dame Judi Dench and her real life husband Michael Williams, it was a good series and a top show in it's time. Sadly Michael died so the series ended. Glad you're enjoying it.
I'm watching one of your old US shows...lol...Judge Judy from 2002, I love it...seems there are idiots the world over and she has so much contempt for them, we need more like her!

What's a peppermint Patty?
She was a character in Charlie Brown but I think yours must be some kind of sweet treat!

Kathi's Birthday

Monday, January 23, 2012

Tomorrow is my daughter's birthday - she will be 48!! Whoo!! Where did those years go??

I called her yesterday to see if I could take her out for lunch - we have not been to our favorite Chinese restaurant for a long time!! But, she is out of town this week for more training. Got her nursing license a year ago and is working for a dialysis center - and is getting more and more training - a couple of weeks ago in Los Angeles and this week somewhere in Washington. I know this training is great for her - but she is gone so much. She has a wonderful husband who keeps the "home fires burning" and two daughters at home. Jenni is 14 and Jill is 10. It has been hard for them, but they seem to be doing better as they get older. I did take her gift to her - a necklace she had been admiring - she was so delighted.

So tomorrow I will meet Elaine for our usual coffee break and chit-chat!! Always such an uplifting time for me. She is so encouraging.

Now to get to my to-do list for today. The sun is out bright - tho it is still a bit chilly. Want to get out for a short walk -

A New Year!

Saturday, December 31, 2011

I had such good intentions and good goals for this past year, and somehow life just got in the way! A couple of unexpected events.

First my older daughter, Vicki, is now in a long-term health care facility near her home in Salem. Still no diagnosis, but she is slowing improving. However, it feels like she may not be able to go home to a "normal" life. I am just so thankful for her faithful, loving husband, Norris.

Second, I was "dismissed" from my position as office manager in the church I attend. Had planned to work until next spring, but our Pastor wanted a change. I had worked there for over 3 years - no reviews and no input as to what he wanted different. Am still struggling with my feelings - somehow I feel betrayed.

So, now am finally fully retired - and loving every minute of it. Like today - got up about 7:30 and it is now after noon!! What have I done? Well, showered, had breakfast, did some exercises, and swept the bathroom. And, now sitting here browsing on my computer. May watch a movie this afternoon while I knit some more on a lace shawl - someday I may actually get it finished. This evening my son, Greg, will be over for our weekly Movie and Dinner. Probably will get Chinese take-out - we have not had any for quite a while. And, we have a few movies that we have not watched yet. Need to get those out.

Just want to wish everyone a very Happy New Year!!
