Still Waiting

Friday, August 12, 2011

My daughter, Vicki, is still at OHSU in Portland. And, she is slowly slipping from us. The doctors do not know what is happening in her body. Mostly she is unresponsive and does not know anyone or where she is.

They have sent samples to other facilities around the country and are now waiting for some word.

God has given me complete peace thru all of this. If He choses to take her Home, she will be completely healed (and she will be with Him and her grandparents - now that would be the icing on the cake!!!). If He heals her here on earth, we will have more time with her.

This situation has blown the heck out of my diet and exercise!! Have had little appetite - wonder if I have lost any weight?? And, have been exhausted. Have been able to keep up the little bit of gardening that I do - weeding and watering my flowers. So glad I have some that do not require much - petunias and geraniums. And they are really flourishing.

Oh! Barb I'm so sorry for you and your family, it's so good you have your faith and you're feeling such peace through all the turmoil.
Your little garden will be helping you too.
I'm thinking of you all and sending big hugs your way emoticon

Update on my Daughter, Vicki

Sunday, August 07, 2011

I have not written for a while - my daughter was taken to OHSU - a teaching hospital in Portland. She has been there over a week. Now we are not sure that she has MS. They are doing so many tests - but it just seems that she is shutting down. I went over last week (about 200 miles east of here.) She did not know anyone, including her husband and she has no connection with the present.

This evening i talked with my son who lives in Vancouver, just north of Portland. He said he was at the hospital for a couple of hours this morning and Vicki was not aware that he was there. She did move around some, but did not open her eyes.

I probably will go over next weekend. The trip is hard for me - both driving the distance and the heat. I know my pastor will not understand why I do not just go over and stay. But, I have to do what I can. My other daughter who lives here is having a very hard time - she finished her nursing last year and just wants to go take care of Vicki. But she has just started a new job and has 3 months training that she has to complete. And she has 2 daughters and a husband here. This evening I was with her and we talked about what is really important today.

I just know that whatever happens, God is in control and now I just have to trust Him and follow His direction.

My heard literally aches for you and your situation. God know and he understands. I've sat at the side of family and friends in dark days, and it is so hard to know sometimes what will come next. Know you are being prayed for. God loves you and your family. He is with you even during this dark and uncertain time. If you need anything...extra prayes....to vent...just holler. emoticon

My Daughter, Vicki

Thursday, July 28, 2011

Finally walked outside this morning - about half mile. The first part is slightly uphill - then downhill for a way - then flat. Was a good walk. I plan to do that each morning the rest of the week. If I am going to increase my steps each day - then I will just have to get out and walk. Won't increase just sitting here at my computer.

Had a good day at work. My son in Portland called to let me know that he went down to Salem to see his sister - Vicki is in the hospital there - diagnosed with MS. She is 54. She is responding to the medication - but the prognosis is still rather sketchy. She will be in the hospital for at least another week as they adjust her medication and as she regains some of her awareness. I know she is in God's hands - and whatever happens will be completely in His control.

Glad Vicki's on the mend Barb, it must be so worrying for you when she's so far away...stay strong emoticonthinking of you.

I love my daily walk, I try to go in the morning. Sometimes I get my DH to drop me off outside the village and then walk back in, it's so invigorating and it sets me up for the day. I especially like walking when it's early on, there's a peace about the place before everyone sets off for work...on the odd morning I don't want to go I make myself and I always enjoy it once I'm out there...I always take my camera!

An Evening with Maggie

Friday, July 22, 2011

This evening I walked down town - all of about 6 blocks to meet a friend for dinner. Left early so I could stop at the Quilt shop to pick up a piece of material i need for a project. Of course, I found a couple of pieces in the sale basket I just could not resist. One yellow and the other a light green with some yellow highlights. Now what to do with them - perhaps a table runner.

The restaurant where I met Maggie is in the same block as our Farmer's Market. Got there a little early, so shopped a little - found some beets, green and yellow beans, and some apricots. Also, met a couple of friends from church. Then, met Maggie. Had a good dinner of a tamale and fresh salad - very yummy!!. After eating we browsed the Market - Maggie picked up some apricots and some bread and cinnamon rolls. She was ready to go home, so I took my time walking home - talked to a few people along the way who were enjoying the cooler weather. Felt so good to be out - have not gone out for a walk in far too long. And the River Walk Way is just beautiful this time of year. Will take my camera next time and get some new pictures.
