Had A Good Day!

Monday, August 02, 2010

Well, did get part of that house cleaning done. Cleaned the bathroom and mopped the kitchen.

Had to go by they post office to pick up stamps for the church. Getting to the post office today was quite a challenge - they are working on that intersection - again!!. Will be so glad when all the road work is done!! emoticon

This is the 100th Anniversary of the Pendleton Round-Up and they are really dressing out the town!! Will be nice when they are finished but can be a challenge getting around at times - we are not a very big town - so not many streets. Need to get pictures of the Round-Up grounds - I will not be going to the rodeo - but will be taking in some of the other things -- A couple of parades, all the vendor shops, and maybe Happy Canyon (this is a story of the Old West - done live - with Indian attacks, the Calvary to the rescue, and the Peace between the Indians and the Settlers.) There is even a "square dance" on horseback - It is quite the performance.

Got the hibachi put together and have the hamburgers ready to bbq this evening. Even picked up a watermelon.

Am knitting some this afternoon - but it is really too hot. I keep dropping stitches - so probably should just put it down until it cools off.

    You sound busy Barb.
I've finished up the housework except for cleaning the cooker but the gas man is coming for his yearly check-up on Friday so it'll have to be done...LOL...it's shameful when it isn't spotless for him and I did pork last night which has splashed all over!

The Pendleton round-up sounds good, can't wait to see the pictures!
Does it go on for the whole week?

A Lazy Day!!

Saturday, July 31, 2010

A trying to get some house cleaning done - but keep ending up here at the computer. It is a little cooler today - in the mid 70s.

Have finally cleared off a spot in my bedroom for my sewing machine. i have 1 quilt top finished and ready to quilt and blocks for 2 other quilts finished. Now to get them put together before winter. Our blankets are as old as the hills and are wearing out. I love the 2 quilts I have on my bed and want to finish one of these for my son.

Thursday was my sister's birthday!! I would love to have celebrated with her, but she lives in Brookings and i live in Pendleton - a little far to go for an evening. I sent her a card and will call her this afternoon. She did have a nice birthday - went to the casino with a friend and came home with $75. Also, had a nice steak dinner.

Also, gotta get that hibachi put together so we can bbq tomorrow.

Hope everyone is enjoying cooler weather!!

    Sounds like me today! LOL..
I keep trying to peg out the laundry but.....it keeps showering!!
I was trying to catch up with housework but.....ended up here!!
What are we like?

Your quilts sound beautiful.
I made some years ago, all handstitched, but I can't do it now as I've got carpal tunnel in my right hand, not bad enough for an operation yet but it makes sewing hard. I never thought of using a sewing machine!

Glad your sister had a lovely birthday, sorry you couldn't be with her, I bet you were there in spirit.

The weather is cooler, mostly due to the showers. They don't amount to much rain for the garden though, we could do with it pouring down for about a fortnight! emoticon

Today's Ramblings

Friday, July 30, 2010

Finally found a hibachi - and am looking to using it this weekend. I had one when my kids were growing up and cooked on it almost every evening during the summer and lots during the winter.

Not sure what else we will be doing. I have started another knitting project - a triangle shawl. Am just learning the pattern and waiting for the yarn that i will use. I do love to knit -

I picked up a movie at WalMart recently and started to watch it last night, but it will be going into the trash. Don't remember the name but I just can't get past all the language and sexual remarks. So, may look for another one - or not.

My daughter and I want to go shopping in Walla Walla but not sure when we will - she has plans for this weekend and next weekend they go to LaGrande for a swim tournament. I am so glad they enjoy swimming so much.

I get off work today at 1 so hope to stop by the Farmer's Market - did not make it last week - and we sure missed all the fresh veggies!!

So, will probably be a quiet, slow weekend - just as I like!!!

My Daughter has Passed her Board Exam for her RN

Wednesday, July 28, 2010

Just have to share!! Just got a phone call from my daughter - she has passed the Oregon State board exam for her RN degree. emoticon

She is a full time wife and mother of 3 girls at home (and a Sailor stationed in San Diego). So it has been quite a struggle - there were many times she just wanted to quit - but her family was so encouraging and supportive. Now, she is saying that if she had it to do again, she would not do it. NOT!!

But, I know that she will do well - she has a deep compassion for others.
I am so proud of her.

Well, It Has Been Quite A Week

Monday, July 26, 2010

First, it is warm!! here. Right now at 7:45 it is still in the 90s - and today when I was out doing some errands, one of the banks said 106. So, I have been getting my water down - and lot of iced tea.

Exit 209 from the Highway 84 into Pendleton is going to be "reconfigured" - there have been lots of meetings with many proposals for the best plan with the least impact on businesses in the area. Last Thurs. the meeting was to decide the final proposal to be presented at the next Planning Commission meeting. The first phase is north of the freeway - not sure just what that will look like. The second phase is south of the freeway which will require property to be purchased, including the First Church of God - where I go and work in the office. This church was built in 1956 and there are still some of our members who were instrumental in organizing and building the church. So, for them, if this happens, it will be difficult.

Not sure how I feel - I have lived here only about 4 years so don't have the emotional tiles that they do. But, my one concern is that the government again can take our land - they will be purchasing it - but, we really have no recourse.

Cost of the project is $10 million. Is it really needed - for $10 million?? There is so much concern for the out of work father, the single mom who barely makes enough to feed her children, people without adequate insurance who need medical care, and the list goes on - and then we spend $10 million on a new freeway exit. Seems rather upside-down to me.

We have the same carry-on in this country Barb.
Our local paper is fronting a campaign fighting against cuts to our cottage hospital beds, they just want it to be an outpatients.
It sounds like they want to make it into a glorified clinc but at the same time spend thousands of pounds building a new entrance for it.
Bereauocracy gone mad!

I read in the Oregonian today about how all the federal and state dollars are allocated to construction projects...in record amounts, while other programs are unfunded and getting cut back.

The only good news I can make out of that fact is that construction jobs bring wages to families and dollars into our communities. But still...that would not be how I would spend my money. But it isn't mine.
