OK, so I didn't win any money! But what I have accomplished is even more incredible and I am so proud of myself!! My previous fasting blood work was on June 20th and the results showed that my cholesterol had come down from a high of 261 a year or so ago. Two months ago, I was absolutely thrilled when my doctor told me that my cholesterol had come down to 199!
Last Saturday, I did another fasting blood test to check my cholesterol and other body parts as a certain medication I am on can be hard on the liver. The nurse called me today to tell me that all my blood work had come back in the normal range. Even tho I have a follow up visit coming up in the next few days, I couldn't help myself but to ask the nurse about my cholesterol. And that is when if you were anywhere near Northern Virginia this afternoon, your ear drums may have gotten blow out!! The nurse said it had come down to 174!!! Super impressive considering I am not on any cholesterol reducing medication as I have insisted I will do this on my own.
I am very excited that I am healing on the inside and becoming more and more healthy with each passing day, week, month!! And to help move this along even faster, I am on track with my physical therapy to get back into my 500 calorie workouts like I was doing before I blew my knee out and was making excellent progress back then (instead of my weight climbing up and up like it has over the summer!!)
So here's to grinding my own flaxseeds and sprinkling them in my yogurts, eating bananas with my lunch, strawberries with my dinner, and keeping my daily cholesterol intake under 200!! Pretty soon I am going to be the picture of health on the inside and out!!

Quick update on how things are going in the aftermath of the pre-exterminator cleanup and simultaneously getting slammed at work, how I am doing in physical therapy, and my plan (as well as an experiment) to get back into my workout routine. Note that I caught a mistake in the video when I describe my WiiFit workout and the "run". It is actually a very fast walk, which most definitely falls into the guidelines I have been given to get back into my workouts! Enjoy and let me know what you think of my very first video blog!

This has been the week of incredible work AND home stress. I have gotten by on about 4 hours of sleep for 2 nights in a row!! Yikes!!! But it looks like the intensity and causes of the stress are slowly ebbing away!
Without boring you about my job, I will just say that I have been putting in 10 hour days to stay on top of something that was thrown at me; but unfortunately, it was broke long before I caught the ball! But I am getting on top of the situation and my boss knows what a mess I am stuck in! Thankfully, he has been supportive.
But it has not really been the work that has been the cause of bulk of my stress!! It has been those pesky fleas that have taken over my life!! Huh? How did that happen? Well, two weeks ago last Monday; we took the cat to the vet to see what we could do about the fleas. She gave us liquid chicken-flavored prednisone to help calm his reaction to the flea bites. She also suggested a pet-friendly exterminator. The pet friendly exterminator came out on Monday and explained what we would have to do to get ready for treatment. The biggest problem was that we had to get everything off the floors. And he meant EVERYTHING!!! Well, that is fine and dandy for most people but remember; we are living like refugees. (Cue Tom Petty!) Not only do we have 20 years of belongings accumulated in our house, but anything that used to be in our basement is packed in the corners of the stairs, behind furniture, anywhere we could cram our stuff from the basement! We went out and bought more plastic bins and threw whatever we could into the bins and then stacked the bins on our beds, in the tubs, in the showers, anywhere we could move all the boxes and stuff. We did all that on Tuesday night until about midnight. Then we started back up again 5 hours later on Wednesday morning and finished clearing all the floors!! We let the exterminator in after locking the cat in the downstairs bathroom with his essentials and then stuffed a beach blanket into the crack of the door so none of the spray would come anywhere near him.
Between unpacking our stuff that we need, physical therapy, and working 4 more hours from home, it was yet again, bedtime after midnight and then back up at 5 this morning to go to work!! Needless to say, I really am exhausted and plan to be in bed about 90 minutes from now!
I am still finding the errant flea but there appears to be a significant decrease in the amount of fleas in my house. I will continue to treat the cat with Frontline Plus according to the schedule the vet told us to follow! Ever since we noticed that we had a flea problem, we have been trying to give the cat some level of comfort by combing him every few days and spraying the fleas in the comb with Windex. It makes them shiny but most important, it makes the fleas dead without leaving toxins in the cat's fur!! The exterminator will be coming back once a month for a total of 6 treatments! (But at least we will have more notice about clearing the floors!)
So that is the sad tale of why I have been out of touch with everyone. In the meantime, I leave you with a sweet picture of my always purring kitty! (Not much a kitty! He's 12 years old!!) He never goes outside so how he got fleas in the first place I will never know! But that would explain why the infestation got so out of control in our house!! And if the quantity of flea bites on my legs is any indicator of what has been going on for poor kitty, he really really really needed that prednisone!

I had already been thinking about this for a while but had not really felt the motivation to act on this thought. But then a dear Spark friend (CJROMB) suggested it was time to find a happier background picture.
Yes, we are still at a snail's pace slogging thru the legal system with our lawsuit against the builder that sunk my basement in 16 inches of mud. Yes, it will still be at least a year before there is any resolution! And yes, we are still living like refugees (cue Tom Petty in the background, please!) with our storage bin full of stuff and boxes and boxes and boxes and boxes and boxes crammed wherever we can squeeze them: living room, corners of stairs, hallways, you name it but not much in the basement!!
Since we finished the major part of the cleanup, I only go downstairs to work out, do laundry, print something off the main family computer, and to sigh a deep sigh when I see the remnants of the devastation. I do not watch TV because I cannot take being downstairs for any length of time. I will sometimes sit with hunny while he watches a NASCAR race or a sitcom; but I never stay for the full length of whatever he is watching. It is some crazy mental block I have!! And in case you were wondering, I keep up with my favorite TV shows either on DVD or if I can, stream them from the internet on my laptop.
So how did I go about choosing the new background picture? Let me tell you it was very difficult as there were challenging obstacles. First, no pictures of the house, either before or after the flood. Next, nothing from any family anythings as I cannot bear to look at any pictures that make me think about my son. I feel so betrayed by his actions these past 2 years that I actually put away my digital frame at work and no longer use the picture gallery as my screen saver. There is a wall of baby pictures in my bedroom that I cannot look at because the sigh is even heavier than the one heard whenever I go downstairs. (The nightmare continues as he goes to court for his misdemeanor pot and felony drug charges in 2 months.) I thought about using a picture of our sweet adorable cat but that would still eventually bring me back to my son!! Third, the picture could not make me sad so any of the volumes of beautiful pictures of the magnificent hummingbirds that used to visit my feeder would only make me sad as the woods that got torn down (that contributed to our flood) used to home our hummingbirds. Same thing with the beautiful snow landscape pictures off my deck.
After going thru loads of pictures and scans from old photo albums (long, tiring, on-going project but so worth it!!) I settled on a picture a friend of hunny's took at an Aerosmith concert at the Nissan Pavilion a few years ago. Their music has always made me happy! Probably even contributed to some of the hearing difficulties I have today but that is another story!! If that was not enough, Steven Tyler's cameo on "Two and a Half Men" was priceless!!! Even better, the poor man fell off the stage trying to entertain the crowd! How can you not love him? Besides, Joe Perry looks pretty good with his shirt open!! And best of all, no baggage with this picture makes it a great choice!!
