So the picnic was really fun. My stepmom and dad had a found a really nice area of the park that was nice and in the shade. It was so much fun catching up with my stepfamily. And my newest nephew is just adorable. (Check my blog from yesterday for more details!) He seems to be adjusting to life in the US rather well. My stepbrother-in-law was telling me that in Russia they have a huge adoption problem that they keep under wraps. He said they throw these kids out of the orphanage at 16, whether or not they have learned a trade or anything to support themselves. So then they really have only one option for any kind of survival and that is not a good one at all. He said that most of these children do not survive into their 30s! Thankfully, now one less child will be part of that system of self destruction! And he really gets an awesome break because he will be growing up in a home that is full of love!
I did not do so well with sticking to my diet at the picnic or in the evening! But it was all good! I brought my own salad and sandwich so I would avoid the KFC fried stuff. But then my stepneice brought some unbelievably awesome chocolate chip cookies. They were just too hard to stop at one, so I ate 4!! And then when we got home, my son wanted to go out and grab a bite. So we went to Chili's. I got a chicken salad but then I also got the Chocolate Lava cake for dessert. YUMMY!! I guess I will have to go that much longer on the elliptical now to make up for my naughtiness!
So for Father's day, my daughter was not able to trade anyone out of work so she is stuck working from 11am til closing tonight. So we will be going to do Fathers Day lunch at the steakhouse where she waitresses and that way we will all be together. Granted, she will have to be our waitress but that is so much better than nothing! My plan is to order the salmon and try to avoid dessert. Time will tell how well I do!!
