Good report from Pulmonary Doctor & lost a few pounds

Friday, November 08, 2013

So my lungs are good, asthma under control. Dr. Lawton very happy and I will return in 6 months for my yearly breathing test. He gave me a bunch of samples because I have been on Symbiacort for a long time and it cost $140 but it would be free if he had a generic I could use. Instead he gave me 4 months worth of samples of Dulera to try out. If it works well, I will using that inhaler from now on. Then none of my medications will cost anything through my husbands insurance.

I also had some good news. I am only doing my weight when I go to the doctors office. In this way I won't get obsessed about my weight and since my scale battery is dead, I have decided not to replace it for a while. I did notice my pants weren't as tight, so I was pleased to see I had lost a few pounds. I am now at 203.6.

So I restarted with Sparks at 210 and it has been real slow only lost 2 pounds for the longest time. Now close to 7 pounds and I like that. When I originally started using Sparks in Nov. 2009, I was 204 and I eventually got down to 143. Kept it off for a bit, then I injured myself and had ankle surgery in Dec. 2012. During 2012 the weight slowly came back on, then I got a bit depressed because our home remodeling was taking so long and costing more than we accounted for. Things are pretty much back to normal now and I am feeling a lot better. I am sure the exercising is helping with the depression.

Going bowling this evening with Rosa (my neighbor) and her two daughter's Christy 22 yrs old and Frida 13 yrs old. They call me "Grandma Corvette", which I think is pretty funny. I don't have any grand kids of my own and they are like family. Frida has been helping me bake Christmas goodies since she was around 3 or 4 yrs old. Frank was going to go with us before his work tonight but they asked him to come in early. They are doing safety checks with OHSA I guess this weekend. He is sort of glad because he will work 5pm-10pm get paid for 8 hours and be home in the morning to see his sister without having to sleep all day.

Waiting for the Maytag man to bring a replacement part for my refrigerator that Is about 3 yrs old now. A plastic piece broke off and attaches the pop up drawer, but you can't just replace that little piece. It is attache to a larger part. Sort of mad because we have not had good luck with this refrigerator (ice maker problems 3 times). Tan our MayTag guy is great. What I did was send him a couple of pictures from my cell to his cell, so he would know exactly what had broken. He was pretty sure because he has the same frig but the pictures helped him and he thought that was a great idea on my part. He will be here soon. So off to start ironing sheets that were put off from yesterday.

Great Dr.'s report! Nice to see that scale number going down!
Hope the medicine works for you, that would be great! My pharmacy automatically substitutes generics for what ever my Dr. prescribes.
Have a great weekend!

Happy Spark Anniversary!! Congrats on the weight loss! Congrats on the MD report! Hate to sound like an old fogie, but they just don't make things like they used to! We've had numerous problems with the appliances in our kitchen! Keep Sparking! You are doing great!

Nice couple of days

Tuesday, November 05, 2013

The weather was very nice here for Halloween. A good bunch of kids and I was trying to get rid of all the candy. Thought I did pretty good with only 1/2 bowl left. Then the next day was cleaning up a closet and found 6 bags of various candies. 4 were chocolate types and they went into the freezer. If no one eats them they should be good to go for next year. lol The other 2 bags were Laffy Taffy and Nerds. Neither of these do I like or care about. They are up in a cupboard and I assume they too will be ok next year as long as the bags isn't opened.

We had a day of light rain over the weekend but it has warmed up a bit again during the day. In fact it was just around 82 with a nice breeze today. Did a walk along the new Anaheim Cove River Walkway. Round trip is 3.27 or something like that. The walk I took today takes a shorter route back then the round trip but it is a sandy path down closer to the SA River, still just over 3 miles.

Jeff has been working late most of the week. He is at the Anaheim Convention Ctr. working on installing BlizzCon. For those of you not familiar with this, it is hosted by Blizzard Entertainment Company located locally in Irvine, CA, the largest online gaming site for World of Warcraft. That is where I was able to see Ozzie Osborn a couple of years ago and my son got to see Foo Fighters two years ago. Jeff told us a couple of days ago the big group this year is Blink-182 on Sat. night. BlizzCon is very expensive to attend and they only have 20,000 tickets available world wide. Last year they had BlizzCon in China or Japan.

Samra will be home this weekend from AZ with her long term guy Carl. They will be attending her 10 yr. high school reunion. They both love Blink-182, so Jeff will try to get them some T-shirts.

We will be having Thanksgiving early on Sunday 11/10/13. My sister Doreen and her husband Fred will be here from Hemet, CA. I also asked her to let her son Rich who lives in San Clemente, CA which is located in S.OC, that he is welcome and he could bring a guest. Rich may have to work but I know Samra would love to see her cousin. Jeff has to work all day, but he has Monday off so he will be able to visit with Sam & Carl on that day and they will return to AZ on Tuesday as it is a 3 day weekend for them both and they decided to take 1 vacation day. They should arrived here sometime late Friday or early Sat.

Yesterday sucked. I felt awful for some reason, no energy, tired and my back was killing me. So took the day off and was able to get my walk in along the SA River and get some cleaning done. I did do laundry yesterday and along with about 30 mins. of ironing but that was it.

Good for you! Our Halloween was nice too, but no Trick or treaters, so I was wise and did not buy candy! Hope Jeff can get Samra and her honey some Tees! Love the name Samra... Have a belly dance buddy named Samra from Brazil!

What a job for Jeff. Sounds like an interesting venue and a lot of work!! Glad you are having a family gathering and can actually do it early. We tried to do Christmas before we left home and our DD who is now single and can't travel from now to mid Jan. due to her job, was upset that we would do that so going home is the weather allows. Holidays can be a little hard for some. Enjoy the time together!! Don't work too hard!

Poor Jeff all work and no play! That is quite the convention, and all for a single game! Like Wow!! So glad you will get to see your daughter and sister, that will be a treat!
Halloween was cool and rainy here, probably why the lower number of kids -they got all their treats in the indoor comfort of that mall instead :-P
Snow and ice has come with a vengeance here and its not safe to walk anywhere. Just lucky to make it to the club and back in one piece. I actually watched a car spinning its wheels the entire time it tried to cross the intersection :(
I am still feeling lousy too with the upset tummy, toe, and arm issues.
Hopefully tomorrow will be a better day for us!
Give the candy to Jeff to take to work, bet it will go fast. I somehow think it would be pretty stale in a year's time..
The people at the bridge club sure bring their left over treats from all occasions -even had people bring in their birthday cakes!!! It disappears fast!
Still waiting for the couch photos ;)

No I haven't upload the pictures yet.

Tuesday, October 29, 2013

I still haven't uploaded pictures of the new furniture. So sorry because I know some of you are hoping to see new couches from Lazy Boy soon. Don't worry will try for tomorrow.
Took a nice walk this morning around 10:30 am. Waited for the sun to come out as it was very cool and damp here. I did not wear a jacket but had long loose yoga type pants on and stayed very comfortable even with a cool breeze. The sun played peak a boo with the clouds, so at times it would get a bit chili.
Took Phred this evening after dinner just around the block. I had a jacket on and it was downright cold. I rushed him along and did the .43 miles just under 9 mins. Poor Phred had to rush to do his business tonight (twice). lol emoticon Ok over and out for this night.

Way to get out there in spite of the weather! I wimped out and stayed at home and did a workout inside as I didn't want to go out in the freezing temps (not used to it yet :P and it really bothers my injured toe)
That is the one very annoying thing about a male dog -that they like to mark their territory on every little tree, branch and bush :P Mom thought she was getting a break when she got Daisy, but that silly girl tends to sniff around a lot too and even lifts her leg like a boy dog!! Can't win lol!

Alawys hard to walk with a dog. They love to stop and smell the "roses" :) Glad you could get out and walk though. Too hot here for me and the humidity is high with it. I've done plenty of "walking with moving" as you well know the work involved.

So I finally found the place to calibrate the ST

Friday, October 25, 2013

Wow wee, I finally found a place to calibrate the Spark Tracker. I guess I should have looked around more carefully on that page. hee hee Anyways I calibrated my morning walk at 3.52 miles in 71 mins. instead of the 3.27 it was showing. I also re-calibrated some other walks and it should start to learn my pace. I feel sort of stupid now but not finding this page sooner. I should have known Spark would come up with something like this. So no more complaining about it not being accurate until I give a few days to readjust to my pace. This was just about the .30 miles I keep being shorted. I'll let you all know in a few days how the tracker is doing.

Purchased Phred a nice doggy bed for living room. He stays off the couches when no one is around or sitting on them. The min. you sit he wants to jump up. After being told "NO" a dozen or so times yesterday I had to grab him (and he growled at me) and lightly tap his bottom. It's just what he does if he doesn't get his way. We are not calling the bed a bed, but his "rest" place. Since he sleeps with Jeff and knows what a bed is this would just confuse this dog. WE want to be able to say a one word command when he tries to get on the couches like "NO, Phred rest". He plays dumb but he is smarter than he acts, just takes him a bit of time to catch one to things or he is dumb or stubborn or all of the above. lol

Been very overcast and cool the last couple of days high 60's/low 70;s. Is suppose to warm up again starting tomorrow and be in the low 80's for a couple of days. Looks like it will nice weather for Halloween.

emoticon finding out how to calibrate your Tracker!
The poodle in Phred will out think you and the Jack Russell will be incredibly strong willed. You will have to show him who is boss for sure and that his place is on the doggy bed, not the furniture. All I can say is good luck with it, better you than me!!

Furniture is finally here.

Wednesday, October 23, 2013

Our Lazy Boy couches finally arrived this morning. I ordered them on 8/2/13 so we are a bit excited. Jeff just got home from work and is getting ready to sit in one. lol I have not uploaded the picture yet. We still have to get tables and a rug, but not sure exactly what I will find out on the market. We will have to get Phred a doggy bed because I don't want him jumping on the couches and his nails ripping the leather
Anyway did a nice walk today and the Spark Tracker is cutting off my mileage and steps short still. It is a nice tool but not too accurate as I have said b/4.

Sorry the Spark counter thing is still not accurate. Oh well. I had to order new talking pedometers and always order a few since I am terrible with them, but they are back ordered! Yikes! We love our LaZBoy furniture! Very solid, very good looking.... Glad yours finally came in! Hope my new stuff comes soon!

    Sounds fabulous!
That is a shame about the activity tracker counting your car ride :( They have to make a fix for that where you can turn it off. Around here the roads are so bad and full of potholes it would count a huge number of steps lol. I still would like to know how it can tell whether you are on an elliptical, stationary bike or out walking. Would be interesting to know that.
Our dogs have always stayed off the furniture. Its Mom's cat that is the problems, So she has to keep them covered, even then the claws still get through :( There is no training a cat off the furniture, they were born to get in a high place.
Enjoy!

Starting to get to where you want for the house!! Good for you! Will be anxious to see the pictures. My SPAT apparently took all the bouncing in the truck today as steps. I know I didn't walk as much as it said but did meet my goal, barely!! So I know the sensitivity is touchy. But i do get a much better idea of what I am doing than guessing like I did.

I love new couches! They are the bestest!!! Did you run in to sit on it for the first time with Jeff? Like breaking it in together! LOL

And I was afraid the SparkTracker would do that... cutting out when it should still be working. I like it the old fashioned way... I count my steps around the yard a couple of times and take the average. Then I know approximately what one lap is in steps. And I used GPS to make sure the mileage was correct.

Best of luck with the couches and with getting the tracker to cooperate and act appropriately. And I am so happy you got a nice walk in today. I got stuck walking in Target. Boo!
