Mammogram is fine. Other thoughts

Wednesday, July 17, 2013

Ok I guess with the new system the hospital and doctor's group have now initiated I get alerts in my email. They started doing this a while ago and insisted that one should join, you get in using you Facebook account ID. I got the alert yesterday afternoon and all is fine, which is what I thought, but nice to read. It said I should also receive an hard copy soon. We shall see. I really hate this new system, but you can go on and see just about everything from at least the last 10 yrs. online. I just worry about identity theft which I experience in 2009.

Painted both bedrooms this morning and we installed the new light fixtures last night. I also have already gone to StatersBros Market this AM. SB had good prices on whole chickens @ .99 cents a pound. I picked up 3, having one tonight. Jeff purchased a new freezer for me a couple of weeks ago from Home Depot and it was delivered last week. We purchased a bunch of ice from the local ice house to help it keep everything cold until we can get it filled up. It is a May Tag energy star rated and self defrosting (woo hoo). I am slowly getting it filled up. I plan to go back to SB Monday and get some more whole chickens. I also purchased some boneless pork chops, 5 to a pack for around $5 bucks, give or take a few cents.

I have been reading every night on my Kindle because with the only tv working in the master bedroom gets turned off when my hubby decides to go to bed. He sometimes hits the hay around 7:30pm. I either hang on my laptop or read. I downloaded some free classics a long time ago. So having never read Uncle Tom's Cabin, I had been reading it. Since I am not from the south, it is a bit difficult to sometimes make-out the dialect being used by both the master's and the slaves. I find it to be a real eye opener, even though I am aware from my black studies classes in high school and college about slavery, civil rights, etc., it really gets to the heart of the matter. Even after all these years of being written so long ago, I have been close to tears a number of times.
Having visited the south in 1971 (15 yrs old at the time) I can remember being in shock at the living conditions of some black families as my mother and I drove down from Washington DC, along the East Coast to Florida. As bad as some blacks thought they had it in areas like Oakland and Los Angeles, it was nothing compare to seeing the shanty's and huts I observed then. Anyway I find it to be a example of what the South really was like before the Civil War and think more people (of any color) should be required to read it.

Enough preaching. I hope everyone is doing grand and the weather cools off for everyone.

Hi! So happy to see you back on SP! I would hate my med records being online or tied to FB. But, it is nice to be able to access your results so quickly. But, Ben Franklin said something to the effect that if a nation gives up even 1 freedom in the name of safety they deserve neither. I'm afraid we did that very thing with the Patriot Act. Anyhow, happy your test went well, happy for your new freezer and all the great buys you are getting and for such great progress on your home! I live in the south and would not live any where else. The thing is that you see more blacks living in those poor conditions but it is about even when it comes to race and poverty. I'm from up North and I actually have witnessed more blatent and ugly racism up North than down here. My family lived in conditions worse than or very near the slaves after the emancipation proclmation. They worked hard for very little and worked in coal mines and owed it all to the company store which was very close to slavery with low wages thrown in to make it not. So, I don't like to hear anyone whine about their circumstances! We all have it much better than we could, so don't ask for handouts, ask for hand ups! Sorry.... I just had to say that we can't generalize on any race based on books or even casual observations. Life is tough. For all of us in some way. Stop moaning and do something about it. OK, stepping off my soap box. I must say, I've read more classics as an adult with better technology and it is amazing comparing then to now! Thanks and truly, glad all is well and so good to have you back here on SP!

So glad your test was okay! I would absolutely hate it needing my medical record tied to my Facebook account. There really is no privacy on there, its not secure. Someone managed to hack my Facebook password in spite of it being one of the more secure ones using numbers, capitals, etc. I just don't want it online.
Its great those rooms are coming closer to being done.
Reading exercises your mind more than TV ;) good for you reading some classics. I wish I had more time to read. Just have too much going on in the summer.
Have a Fantastic Friday and Wonderful Weekend!

Whew! Great to hear the "all clear!"

Well one blessing in your husbands tv habit is that it grows your reading habit. While I miss reading as used to read all the time, I just don make the time for it.

Ok been really trying to get into the gym at least 3 times a week. Went last Wed., Sat. and today. Started doing a weight routine again last Wed. and did the same workout again today. I plan to up the poundage a little bit at a time. Currently just doing #15, will go up to 20# after 6 or 8 sessions. I don't want to burn out too fast and just really taking it easy. Cardio is going well, I mix it up bwt the treadmill, elliptical and bikes. They have another type of elliptical, 750A like a stair stepper/gazelle, that I no longer try to use. I would have terrible pain in my hips after using and suffer leg cramps, so I don't use it anymore. I just wish they had a regular stair stepper like they had at both 24Hrs and Ballys.
Jeff goes back to work on Monday, so we are trying to finish up the bedrooms (sanding, prep, painting and putting up new ceiling fixtures) before the guys come to put in the new flooring next week. I picked a very pretty color called Peony from the Martha Stewart color collection, although we are using Bear paint from Home Depot. They can color match anything.
I had a Mammogram on Monday the 12th, still waiting to get a letter. Normally get one in just a few days, so mail must be slow. I am sure all is fine.
Weather had been hot everyday for a few weeks over 90+. Running A/C 24/7 but bill should be lower than last year when half of the house was expose to the elements due to home remodeling.

I love changing rooms up but it does get expensive, doesn't it? We just painted my parents' room and my mom picked and Amethyst color... it looks like the "calm room" in our jail!

And I am sure the mammogram is fine... otherwise they would have called you. At least I hope they would have.

And congratulations on getting your workouts in. I was sick for a month and an just now getting back up to speed after 3 weeks of working on it! I swear I don't want to get sick any time soon, even thought I lost 6 pounds in a week. But when I had to stop working out, I gained 14 pounds in 3 weeks! I have 10 of those 14 gone and I am elated because they DO NOT belong on my body.

Hi Teri, that's awesome you are getting some workouts in considering you are still into the renos!
Seems like everyone has that heat! Not me, its going into the 50's every night and high in the low 70's, no A/C needed here :P
Wishing good results from your mammogram, that is slow mail, or maybe they are backlogged analyzing results.
Hope the temperatures ease up soon for you!

Hi, Teri! Workouts sound great! Glad you got to go to the gym. How exciting that now, you are doing the bedrooms! The color sounds really pretty. I know, we get our paint at Home Depot too! Just have them match a sample and they do a great job.

Take care of you, glad to hear that you got your mammogram. How is Phred doing? emoticon emoticon

It sounds like you are getting plenty of cardio at home with the sanding and painting:)D Our temps are up in the 90's with high humidity right now. They are saying a break is coming in the form of storms on Thurs. night. Hoping to at least drop the humidity. We have an International soccer tournament in the northern suburb and it is always a very hot & humid week. This yr. is the 29th yr. Over 100 countries represented. Some like it hot and some like it cooler!
Take care in your heat and stay hydrated!!

What been going on here at the home front.

Tuesday, July 09, 2013

On the night of the 27th June I did not sleep all night. I figured I would sleep good because I went to the gym that day. So on Friday the 28th I had an early appointment for a pro time (blood work) done when one is on blood thinners. I was exhausted and burst out crying at the clinic. Felt so stupid & embarrassed but so tired. I came home to try to sleep and rested in bed all day without falling asleep till about 10pm that night.
The 29th June was out 28th anniversary and after having a good nights sleep, I woke up close to 10am. We went to the movies (Man of Steel) which was very good and then to dinner, which was a big disappointment. We always seem to have bad luck on our Anniversary. It started at the movies when we ordered out drinks, 1 reg. cola and 1 diet which I wanted with just one scoop of ice. Nope the kid was too busy talking to another employee to notice he put 2 large scoops in both cups and then handed them to us, without marking which was the diet. I questioned him, and he said I think it's that one but it might be the other. I wanted to give them back for him to redo but my husband was sure he could tell which was which. After we left the counter he kept sipping one then the other. I still don't know if I drank 500+ cals of soda or got the diet.
Then we went to El Torito's for dinner. What a mistake that was, The chips and salsa were horrible, the drinks were watered down and didn't even taste like they had booze in them. After waiting close to 40 mins for be served (how long does it take to make a number 5) same at every restaurant here in CA. 2 chicken tacos, 1 cheese enchilada for the hubby, & I had a Chili relleno & 1 cheese enchilada. When we get served it is not our waiter but some guy from the kitchen, who I have no idea if he was a line cook or a dishwasher. Of course, my order is incorrect, and this guy hasn't a clue what my order was suppose to be. Jeff starts eating and get up to go to the front to talk to the manager. She of course she says their sorry and will take my order off of my bill, this takes less than 10 mins. Lo and behold out comes my order to the table while I am talking to her. The relleno is raw, under cooked, my cheese enchilada is awful. How is it the kitchen is able to get the correct order out in under 10 mins. but we couldn't get out meals for close to 40 mins. in the first place. Jeff thinks the waiter was trying to get us to order more drinks, we only had 1 each. Oh yes, our water came after Jeff was done with his meal and had gone outside to have his cigarettes (bad stuff but he can't stop). I wasn't about to drink any after we complained to management. Jeff contacted corporate ET by email in the morning, where once again we were told how sorry they were.
We also share our anniversary with our son Jory's girlfriend and he was in town for the weekend. Frank went to a party and BBQ at her parents home. She doesn't speak to us because of a fight she had with our daughter Samra. Jory would not still be with her, if not for the fact they purchased a home together in AZ, and he is sort of stuck for the time being.

July 1, went to the gym. The 2nd & 3rd were busy, 2nd Jeff and I drove around town to take care of a lot of chores, 3rd I took Frank shopping for new clothes for his 27th birthday and we roasted hot dogs for the 4th. So hot all week in the mid to upper 90's and I didn't have a lot of energy. On the 3rd our new drapes were in stalled in the living room. On the 5th we were being pretty lazy because of the heat. Went out to dinner and another movie on the evening of the 6th (Lone Ranger) which everyone seemed to like in the theater because most people clapped when it ended.
Also during that week my son and I were packing everything in our rooms to move them out to the living room. Sunday we put down protective paper and moved it all out of the bedrooms. Yesterday I went to the market and did some other errands with my husband. Today the guys came to remove the popcorn ceilings from the bedrooms and will be back tomorrow to finish. Then we will be painting the bedrooms and getting ready for the flooring to be put in. In Sept. we will be doing the same for the master bedroom and then finally the house will be finished for a while. Next summer we plan to redo the other bathroom and in a couple of years had a new master bedroom.
Went to the gym yesterday, still very warm here.

You sound like you have really been busy!! Not sure I could keep up with you (LOL) We don't go to the movies due to the sound! I get a headache right at the beginning. Roger is developing some hearing issues but that is a family gene he and his brothers inherited and at times I have to tell him to talk softer to people on the phone. So he can handle the movies, I can't!
Happy belated Anniversary to you!! Sorry about the food. That's terrible!! Better luck the next time out!!

Hearing test went Ok.

Tuesday, June 25, 2013

So I do have some hearing damage but not associated with the perforation. That was small and healed well, although there was still dried blood in my ear. Doctor said it would all come out eventually. My hearing lost seems to be in the higher ranges. The tech asked me had I been around any loud noises. Ha ha Well of course, all the concerts, dance clubs, motorcycle riding, living just down the road from LAX when I worked at Rockwell International (aerospace company that no longer exists). I would also add surfing damage you get to your ears from being in the ocean water. I also swam anywhere I could and as often in pools of friends or the apartments I lived in. None of this on its own is bad, but it all adds up to damage over the years. So I will have to return in a year to have another exam.

The worse part about the doctors visit was the waiting. I have a 9:30am appointment, asked to be there up 15 mins. early. So 10 o'clock rolls around and I am still sitting in waiting room. I get into to have the test and they put you in a small room and close the door. I hate being in small enclosed spaces. Then I think I am done and can leave. No tech. says I have to see the doctor, out to the waiting room @ 10:25am, back in patient room @ 10:45am. Wait some more see the doctor, talk and get out there after 11am. I just hate waiting on doctors.

Then I went to the market on the way home. I was very tired after that, so didn't do too much for a couple of hours. Then I did my 4 part cleaning of my new wood floors, that takes about an hour. Took Phred for his 1 block walk, and then went to Lowes with Jeff afterwards.

Good for you for taking care of yourself!

Me? I've allowed my hearing loss to go. I've been tested twice in the past few years. Course I don't need a test to tell me my hearing is shot. Playing in a rock band in my younger years, concerts and the like...sheesh, the price we think we WON'T have to pay!

Still have yet to bite the bullet and get hearing aids. Insurance coverage is so paltry. And then there is yet one more gadget to lose, break, etc. Excuses, excuses...lol.

My late husband got so annoyed with the waiting at one point that he told the doctor that they could call him if he was running late, and if he waited more than 30 minutes when he was there, he would leave. It actually worked.

IT is amazing how we don't know we have a loss of hearing at a specific range but it makes sense when protection wasn't the thing to do "back then". Sorry to hear but hoping all will stabilize for you with your next visit. And I also don't like the wait, going back and forth all the time. It is so tiring. My Dr. has a posted sign that if 15 mins. has gone by, let the receptionist know but that doesn't cover the in side the office wait. My book and water "give me comfort".

I guess that is a reasonable hearing report. Waiting on Doctors is par for the course here. I once had a 2 pm appointment with my specialist. As I watched people come in and go, when I was the last patient waiting, it was 5 pm when I finally got called. I was livid, it was so unfair others with later appointments were seen ahead of me. The secretary said blame the Dr., and she did apologize for my wait, but I am guessing it was the secretary and she was passing the buck. At my family Dr.'s office they place the folders in order the people come in so there is no mistaking who is next.
Speaking of loud noises, I have to wonder how many people who have those ear buds in are going to be having hearing problems later on with all that sound blasting directly at the ears. Most of the time, I can hear what they are playing, so its not like they have it on low volume. I found I could not even tolerate listening to one for an hour -it made me deaf for a while after, in spite of putting it on the lowest volume I could hear. The things we do to ourselves...

Antiques Roadshow Anaheim, CA adventure

Sunday, June 23, 2013

Time on the tickets were for 8am, they said do not be there more than 1/2 hour b/4 your scheduled time. We arrived (myself & son Frank) around 7:30am and they had been letting people inside since 7am. I am glad we were in the first group into the Convention Center, we were through it all in less than 40 mins. They have it well organized, and lots of volunteer helpers, too. Nothing we took in was worth very much. An early print drawing $50, some old type of candle holder (I think to take to the outhouse) $120-150, my Victorian handbag & a old flip/flop doll left to me my a great Aunt who was born in 1883 both worth $65. So we won't be selling the house and moving to beach at anytime soon. lol

Still it was great to see how they set everything up. Jeff was there also because his company does a lot of the electrical work at trade shows and such for the Anaheim Convention Ctr. He wasn't working but his boss let him in so he could walk around with us. He had to go back to take the show out at 6pm last night. There was still a ton of people there and they closed the doors at 7pm but he said there was still about 500 people inside in line. PBS gave out 3,000 sets of free tickets, which is how we got to go. They were sold out even with the tickets going for $400 ea. I think it was to keep the riff raff out. Guess it didn't work cause we got in. lol

I did wave at and told Leslie Keno how much I enjoyed watching him on the AR for many years. He said "Thanks so much" and saluted me. We were walking toward the same point and our paths would have crossed, my husband was watching from afar. Couldn't believe we were gonna be so close, it just seemed rude not say something. Jeff wasn't surprised that I said "Hi, Mr. Keno, have enjoyed watching you for years." In fact he was a bit jealous because he had been hoping to see LK around the whole time he was doing set up. I did get a few dirty looks from people in the various lines, like who do you think you are. I just smiled, thinking any of you could have spoken up at anytime. HA! Also was at a table right next to the toy guy Noel Barrett who is on RS a lot. I also tried the feedback booth, but don't think it will air as I really blew it. lol I didn't really want to be on tv anyways, but it was fun. Frank refused to do it so I was by myself & maybe a little stage fright. lol No camera's or pictures are allowed to be taken at anytime.

Ok tomorrow is my hearing test to see if I did any permanent damage to my ear when I perforated last month. I am sure all will be fine!

Wow, sounds as if you had a really good time! The ticket prices are outrageous though! So glad you and Frank got in free and Jeff got to spend some time, too. I imagine the people who go in there and have something to break the bank are few and far between, so don't feel too badly! DH has a lot of antiques, furniture and figurines and all will be sold so that we can hit the road. I wish they would have allowed you to take pictures, but I guess I understand!
