Hit the gym and other chores

Friday, June 21, 2013

Got up this morning, washed all the bed sheets, ironed them. Clean the wood floors, this is a 4 part process. First sweep with broom and dust pan, then use a swifter broom to get the last of the dust, then use special mop/pads with the Bona to clean the wood floors, finally I buff with the puff puff attachment. I only do this every 3 days, but sweep everyday. Then I went to the gym and did 69 mins. on the treadmill for 3.75 miles - 18.35 mph.
Going to bed early, Antiques Roadshow tomorrow and our tickets are for 8am entry. Our time is the first to be let in for appraising. We found a couple of old things to bring besides ourselves. lol

    Besides yourself! That's hilarious!!

I wish ARS would come back through Jacksonville. We just went through our storage shed when we had a massive 1-month garage sale and found some pieces that are really strange and origins unknown except probably stuff from WWI and WWII from my relatives long gone. But I really don't want to lug all that mess around either! HAHA

Please let us know how it is and whether you loved the experience. I want to hear more!

New Dr. is nice. Think I'll stick with her.

Thursday, June 20, 2013

Dr. Alias is a very sweet and kind doctor. She really listen to me. She tried to scheduled me for a colonoscopy and was trying to see the results of the last one I had when I was 49 (end of 2004/early 2005). Sent me down to medical records to sign a release for records. The lady there said "Why?". I explained the doctor was unable to locate them. She went into the system and it took a few mins. but she found them. Said not to worry she would let the office girls & doctor know they were in the computer, so no release was necessary since I was her patient and the release was on file for all of my doctors. So doctor will get back to me to see if I was to wait 5 or 10 yrs. b/4 I had another one.

She also wanted to sched. an ultra sound for my thyroid, since I am on medication and my older sister had thyroid cancer. I guess she may or may not do that at some point in the near future.
I am also to call and make appointment for a Mammogram since it has been over 2 yrs. I will also be making an appointment with dermatology because of 2 moles. I have my hearing test scheduled for Monday, to check how my ear has heal since the perforation.

The other thing is she scheduled me to go to the Coumadin/Warfarin clinic which I have been avoiding for about 3 yrs. Which now I will required to go to about once a month. I have been doing my blood work only about every 3 months. This is a big no-no when on blood thinners and l/d aspirin. Kelly called me from the clinic, wanted to sched. a new patient interview. I explained I wasn't new to the clinic, that I use to go for a number of years but had stopped due to insurance problems and money issues. So I will have to go get pricked all the time, and see her next Friday.

Look at all these lovely tests that the doctor wants. lol One reason I was sticking with my Rheumatologist for everything, because he knows me, my condition and I see him more than all the other doctors combined. But he said insurance/hospital would soon require a primary doctor, before a specialist. My primary Dr. Boston retired 2.5 yrs ago. Saw him for over 25 yrs. and he was great with kids & hubby loved him. Lots of copays $10 a visit, $3 parking, coming my way and we have to pay the first $500 (bloodwork & some other stuff) out of pocket even with being a PPO.

So how was your day??? xo

I am going in for an INR tomorrow. My tests used to be every 3+ months (hehe) as I was doing well on 7.5 mg until this spring. We can't figure out what happened & finally came to the conclusion I may have gotten a bad batch with a refill in TX. Now, after a big bleed in my thigh and sitting in a recliner for a month, I am working on getting it stable again. So yes, I guess it is very important. I can get my own test meter through Medicare + Ins. so will be calling them again. It would have cost $1420. without Medicare.

Tests and a primary Dr. are important!! Take care and get health. I'm working on it:)D

So glad you like your new Dr. While all the testing may be a pain, its all for the good if they catch something before it can get worse. It sounds like you have issues that need to have a close watch on. Better safe then sorry and all those clichés.
Take care of you!
My day? Day five of very cold, very windy rainy days :P Not feeling the best, but its muscle soreness from a very tough workout not the RA, just the usual back pain (which my specialist thinks is a different form of arthritis, not the RA. Currently 55 here :P First day of summer? Must have missed it lol.

I'm so glad that you like your new dr. too. What a great difference. It give us more peace with knowing that we're taken well care of. I know what you mean about mainly going to your Rheumy. That's me too except for the annuals, with the eyes, thyroid, etc., etc. All about keeping us up to par! Now just for me to continue to chisel off more lard! Errrr! On to the bike I go! I'm wishing you luck with all your tests and thanks for your commenting on my page! It's been a rather warm, normal summer day today here in MN. Upper 80's and so humid! Oh, how we love the a/c and I know you do too! emoticon

First day back in the gym

Wednesday, June 19, 2013

I finally got over and back into the gym today. It was too warm to walk around the neighborhood and I had to go by the ATM & market. Hit the ATM then the gym for a 65 mins. on the treadmill, then the market. I only walked at a steady pace on the treadmill with 3.5 being my comfort limit. I stayed at that pace with a .5 incline and then lowered down to 3.3. Wasn't fast by any means but felt good to just walk along. I did start to get sore a bit about 25 mins. into the walk so that is why I backed off down to 3.3. I seem to do OK at that speed without pain in my right ankle (the one I had surgery on in Dec.). Will have to see how I feel later on tonight.
Jeff has been working on my car most of the day and he hopes it is fixed this time. We have had the A/C on since around 10:30am when it was already in the upper 70's with a slight Santa Ana wind (warm). Since the house is so well insulated and we have all new windows we are using the A/C a lot less then we use too.
I have a doctors appointment in the morning with a new family doctor. Ours retired a couple of years ago and I have been using my Rhumatologist on all paperwork as primary. He wants me to see this doctor to get established, which is good. Everytime I have been sick over the last 2 yrs I have had to go to a different doctor and haven't found one I totally like. Wish me luck with this one. TTYL

Way to go listening to your body at the gym! Slow and steady easing back into it will keep you healthy and flare up free!
That is great you need less A/C, a money saver! I would never consider ever using it here no matter how hot it gets -I just feel so good in heat, which we see very little of,
I hope you like this new Dr. I realize I am extremely lucky having the same family Dr. since I was age 16!! I really fear the day when she retires, she is an awesome Dr. that has gone out of her way for me!
Keeping fingers crossed your car will be finally fixed!
keep up the great work!

You are moving along well! Glad you slow when you tired. Hope you can get the car going again:)
I wish we didn't have to us our A/C as much as we do. We are at the bottom of a hill, tucked in nicely so the air circulation isn't very good. We are coming into some hot weather beginning tomorrow which means poss. severe as well. Have a good evening!!

I'm so glad that you could go to the gym and work-out in less heat and emoticonon a super good work-out too! emoticon I have to tell you that I had a Chinese massage and I told her that I like to walk fast when I'm walking for exercise and she said that I should go at a regular speed for less injury. Hmmm, that was new to me and it does sound good with my right OA knee and my feet so sore from RA at times. So I think that you're doing really good!! And good luck with your new dr.! I hope you like him/her lots and lots! It really makes such a huge difference what we think of our dr., that's for sure!!

Hi ya all!

Sunday, June 16, 2013

Just to let my friends know that even not being on here too much yet. I have started walking every morning again and doing 1 block in the evening with Phred the wonder dog. He no longer likes those long walks and with age has decided he is in charge of where is wants and does not want to go. He is happy with the just under 1/2 mile everyday. He is close to 8 yrs old now and get so scared still when we are out on busy streets. He will pull so hard to go back to quiet area's.

My car still is not running and hasn't been since about Oct. of last year. Yes the hubby has tried over and over again to fix the damn thing. He was sure yesterday he had it fixed. So I went to go to the market and not juice again. He is wanting to burn the car up. I have an 1981 Corvette. We put a new engine in it about 9 yrs ago and everything was going well. WE changed the battery, it died after 3 weeks. We changed the alternator, the car died in 3. He did a few things but decided since I was going to have surgery in Dec. I wouldn't need the car for a while and he was working on the house. I still have my son's car to use. I don't mine using it for errands or doc's appointments, but I don't feel right about driving it to the gym everyday. I know I can walk but it is 2 miles round trip and I have been having some other problems so the doctor wants me to take it easy.

The other problem I was having when I did a few hikes was being laid up with such pain in both my legs from toes to hips/lower back. It was like having the worst shin splits in the world but the whole leg. When I walked it was like shocks were going up from both my feet to my lower back. I thought it was an RA problems because it would ease up after a couple of days and be gone after 4 days. I have Lupus and since this pain would go away I knew it wasn't a Lupus Flare up. But I found out it was my lower back stenosis giving me the problem. My doctor said that I had done more damage to my back. To stick to shorter walks and hikes until I lose some weight again & wear a brace. I had cervical spine surgery (6 pins & a plate)on my neck in 2006 and at the time they found stenosis in my lower also. The surgeon said it would start to give me problems in a few years or so. My sister has the same problem and get shots every few months. I am not that bad and still want to keep active, hiking, bowling, kayaking and such so we will be keeping an eye on the problem and see how it goes.

Okay, best of luck. emoticon

Hi Teri!! It is tough to be laid up as that is where I am right now as well. But to add car trouble, it sounds like you have done everything possible to keep it going. It must be tired!!:)
Take care & listen to your Dr. when you are told not to push too hard yet.

I am very sorry to hear about your health issues :( It would seem impact activities need to be taken off your agenda :(( Have you thought of water aerobics as an alternative? Kayaking and bowling should be okay. I would hate missing hiking, but that pain sounds horrible.. What about biking? Good transport too..
That sounds unlucky about all that going wrong with your car..
Hope things improve for you.

Memorial Day greetings.

Monday, May 27, 2013

This goes out to all our service men & women who didn't make it home and those still serving. We appreciate all you did & do for our country. Blessings to you one and all!

Today it is a nice 85 degrees here in Anaheim. The sun is out and there is a slight breeze. Couldn't ask for a nicer day to celebrate. I wanted get up and walk down the street to our local cemetary where they have a celebration every year. I was a bit sore this morning and didn't go. Could hear the music from our back porch. WE have my husbands father buried there, he served in the Navy in WW2. Right next to him is my mother in law and sister in law who died in 1997. I will get over there later today since I am feeling better now.

That is about it so now. xo
