Ok I decided to join a bowling league today.

Tuesday, October 11, 2011

I use to bowl on league back in the early to mid 1990's. I have always enjoy the game. After having cervical spine surgery I was not sure I would be able to bowl again. One of my sisters had the same surgery with only 4 pins and a plate and she can't. I have 6 pins and a plate. I started slowly only bowling occasionally. I was not very good but I had fun. I started going every month, then a couple of time a month. I always a really bad game, normally the first game.
Anyway on Sat. I went with my son, was having a normal day with one game under 100 and the rest above 120 - 139. We bowled six or seven games. Frank said he didn't want to bowl the last game. I decided to bowl both games. I bowled a 149 for my son and bowled a 216 for myself. Today I bowled my first game 97, 2nd 127 and 141 for the 3rd. Our team won 2 out of the 3 games played. I think I will come early from now on a bowl 1 or 2 games to warm up because I seem to bowl better the long I play. lol
Our weather has warmed up again and we are expected 100 degrees for the next two days. Oh I also did a 7 miles river walk with my friend Irene on Sunday. It was perfect, not too hot. The mountains look great and the river had a lot of water in it. Also went to the gym yesterday and had a good 90 min cardio workout along with taking Phred for his daily walk.
I am feeling so much better since I went off the Celcept. I hope when I see my doctor in November that I don't have to go back on Prenidsone. I would really dislike that.

LOL.... brings back memories! If you're doing this great without drugs, then it makes sense that you won't need prednisone for awhile? Let's hope anyways!

Well done!! I too, want to get back into bowling. I used to bowl as a youth and young adult, so that is well over twenty years ago!! I am not sure if my bad hands will let me, now that everything else has been repaired. I am thinking of trying left handed instead of my usual right as my left doesn't hurt like my right.
Great work on the walk, what fabulous scenery to enjoy!
I too, hope you don't have to go back on the prednisone -too bad they couldn't try the biologics, much less reactions to them, certainly no weight gain.
Have fun with your bowling!!

Good for you getting back in the game, especially when you can take your son and practice with him. You'll get better in time, just keep trying. I also hope that you don't have to go back on the Prenidsone, good luck with the doctors visit.

Wednesday It Rained In My House.

Friday, October 07, 2011

Yep, an early storm hit here in the southland aka S.CA. Jeff assured me that it would not get wet in the house. Our roof is still not done along the new front porch area, hence they put up black paper (tar type) and no plastic. I hate to say I told him so, but I knew they had not protected the roof enough from the heavy Alaskan storm that was headed out way. I took pictures on my phone to text to my daughter and forgot to use my reg. camera to post here. I don't use the internet with my phone and have no idea how to send the pictures to my email anyway. lol Anyway Samra and her boyfriend Carl got a big kick out of it raining inside the house.
Anyway, the water was pouring down the lights above the kitchen sink. Along the side of that area I have a hanging rack with all my Calphalon cookware, of course the water was coming down from the holes where the rack is attached to the ceiling, all over the counter. I moved the coffee pot and can opener to the oven which didn't get any water to dry, that goodness. I had 4 pots on the counter to catch water and turned the lights over the sink so the water rained straight down. There was about an inch of water on half the floor, which I mopped on and off all day. Then the entry hall hanging lamp light started to drip water, another pot went there. Next in the hall outside of the bedroom (of course my room) water started to run out of that lamp/light fixture another 2 buckets and towels.
Jeff came home early from work because of rain, took a nap and then a bunch of the popcorn ceiling fell down in the hallway (I want all the popcorn gone anyway, but this isn't the ideal way to get rid of it). lol
Anyway it got pretty cold (for us here in S.CA) but the gas is turned off from the heater/AC unit so were just had to buck up. By Thursday morning the storm had pasted and was warm enough to open the windows. Except the kitchen window wouldn't open, later in the morning it took Frank and I to get it to move. Also the front door will hardly open, hey, no need to lock it cause it takes everything you can do to pull it open. Jeff has been going out the backdoor the last 2 mornings because it won't work. I couldn't get that door to budge this morning from the inside. So I unlocked it, went around from the outside to get the morning paper and decided to come in the house through the front door, pushed with all my might, went flying into the house, almost lost my balance but managed not to land on Phred. It must have looked pretty funny, if there had been anyone to see me. lol Haven't yet tried to get out of the house again today, need to go to the market and will wait to see what happens.
Thats about it for now. Frank is up now and I am going to get him to help me open the kitchen window again this morning.
Weather for yesterday and today, sunny with some light fluffy clouds and warming up to the 80's by Sunday.

HI Teri! I think that storm is headed this way. I don't think we are going to get the rain as it seems to be staying to the north of where we are camping. But they say during the night and then tomorrow. Hope we don't find any leaks in the camper. But you never know.

So sorry to read about all the trouble you are having right now with the water. I know the feeling of have to mop up all day to try to keep things a little dry. Hope you are doing better now and can get the roof covered soon. Take care and don't overdo. Hope to see you back again in the near future. emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

Oh,my goodness, Teri! So sorry all of this leaking happened, reminds me of that scene in the movie, "A Wonderful Life!" Glad that it is all stopped now. Sounds like Jeff now has more work, as well as owing you an apology! Hope the door will open, soon! Please take care of yourself! emoticon

Dang! Brie and I have yet to mend the roof in he spare room, and when the storm blows from the south, HER side of the bed gets wet. If we are clever enough to anticipate the weather, we spread out plastic sheets and pots. We only have flat roofs. We have not yet built the pitched roof. I'm glad your storm blew past. I hope your house dries out without mildew and mold.

Oh My Gosh, rain in the house, the ceiling caving in and a motionless front door! It does sound like you could really give Jeff an I Told You So on that roof. I hope everything gets fixed and soon.

Oh No :(( How awful!! So sorry (that is dangerous the water coming from the light fixtures :(( ) I had that happen when an idiot on a floor above above me overflowed their bath tub while talking on the phone. The housing authority totally replaced my light fixture and part of the ceiling that fell down..
I hope there is not extensive damage to your house, but it sounds like there will be :(( Warped doors are no fun, but neither is mold in the walls or damaged ceilings..

Wow. I hope you've been able to open the door and house to dry off a bit. Mike has been asking me why I haven't turned on the heater yet. I'm usually chilled in the morning, but not to the point of using the heater yet. I ask him if he's cold, and he always says,'oh no, you just look cold.' lol. right. Take care and hope to see you again soon.

Sorry to see I am not getting

Monday, October 03, 2011

Well what did I expect. I only have been onsite a few times a month in the last few months. I enter my exercise min. but no food, and it shows. I started back at the gym yesterday and think I will get back on track this month. We are so far behind on the house construction that I just hope Jeff gets up some walls b/4 the rain comes. I think that is what stresses me out.
I do feel better since going off the medication that was giving me problems. I am somewhat surprised I have not heard from my doctor. I left him a message on the 19th of Sept. He was out of town but Jennifer (his front desk girl) assured me he would see the message since it is all done online now. MMMM I am sure he would want me to be on something for my kidneys. I am not complaining because honestly I do not want him to put me back on Prenidsone. I can't wait till my next appointment which is in Nov. and he asks me how I am doing on the Celcept. Since I am not taking it at all. I have more energy and feel better with less stomach problems.
Thats about it and I hope to catch up with all of my friends soon.
Reading my last blog I mistyped about starting my medication on the following Mon. I had actually started on the Mon b/4 I went to Hemet. I had been back on medication for 6 days and I got up on Sunday the 18th at my sisters with horible stomach pain in my left lower area. I got very sick for a few hours b/4 I was finally able to make the drive home. That is why I stopped taking it and called my doctor. No stomach problems since then.

So glad that you are feeling better! I hope that your medication is sorted out soon, and you are on something that your body can tolerate! I know sometimes it is hard to find the right medication and the right dose.

Hope that Jeff can get more of the house done soon, living in an unfinished house gets old very quickly!

Sounds like you were having quite the reaction to that medication. Glad you are off it and feeling better. Sometimes its a real crap shoot for Dr.'s to find a medication that will work and not have bad side effects. I had a real roll call of medications for my RA way back when. I was lucky my Dr. gave me samples so I wouldn't waste my money on a prescription that either didn't work or bothered my stomach..
Sorry your reno is taking so long. It is very stressful to have all that disruption going on and that always affects your health adversly.
I always track my food, if I didn't I could just see the weight that took me two years to lose slowly creeping back on. I am not good at guessing proportions and some items are so high calorie (like peanut butter) being out just a half teaspoon puts big calories in. And they all add up quickly..
Please do go back to tracking food, its so important..
Hope your medicine issues get resolved sooner than that Nov appointment!!!
Hugs,
Linda

Glad to hear you're feeling better. Hope that being off your meds doesn't cause any long term problems.

Yes, tracking food can make all the difference. It always amazes me how much I eat when I don't track! LOL!

I hope you get your walls up before the rain, too. Even better would be a roof!

It's nice to hear from you.

Have a great day!

Feeling better, but still haven't started back on the medicine @ 1/2 dose. Will start on Monday. We had a fun 9/11 going on a Corvette Run with our flags a flying up to Mt. Wilson area of San Bernardino Mts. Jeff is feeling better too, but his back is still bothering him. Going to the Chiropractor most days. He returns to work on Sat. He and Frank are working hard getting whatever they can do done. We are way behind sched. on the house but can only do so much with Jeff being out of commission.
I will be leaving in the morning to go to Hemet to spend the weekend with my sister at her new place in Hemet. It is her 62nd birthday on Sat. and I have schedule massages for both of us in the town of Murrieta Hot Springs, CA. Should be nice and relaxing for her and me too.
Hope everyone has a great weekend. xo

To answer a few questions from those who read my last blog.

Saturday, September 10, 2011

I have had kidney dysfunction from Lupus since 1985. I have been on and off prenidsone (mostly on) for most of that time. From 4/2002 - 11/2003 I went through Cytoxan chemo treatments to get my kidneys in working condition again. In April 2009 I was put on Celcept after I once was having problems with my kidneys (protein coming out). Celcept worked great, in less than 2 months my kidneys were working as well as expected for me.
I started out taking 2000 mgs a day and this was reduced to 1000 mgs after that. I get blood work done for this medication as well as my blood thinner on a regular basis.
When I started not to feel good, I sort of blew it off. But as it continued, I began to think what had changed, other than home construction. I looked up the medication online and everything that I was feeling was there. It also said these symptoms could happen after a few years, not like some medications that I reacted to within days. After my doctor did chest xray, ultra sound on my stomach, UGI and lots of bloodwork, he decided I might just be right about the meds.
The doctor had me go off the medication for a week, to see how I feel. I feel much better and already have more energy. I know he wants me to go on half the dose I had been on, to see if I can tolerate the lower amount without problems. We shall see how it goes. He also wants to make sure I get in a least 20 min. of cardio at the gym everyday or a good walk. I am attempting to do that but some days are better than others. I am walking Phred almost everyday again but shorter walks for now.
Once thanks to all my friends for reading my blogs. I appreciated everyone of you!

Catching up here...I've been in a flare. Hope you can continue to work through everything and still get the benefits of the meds without the side effects. I wish docs would be more forthcoming about side-effects ;)
Take care!

I sure hope this Dr. is right about putting you on a lower dose of that medication.
I had an immediate and bad reaction to a medication once, and my Dr. thought I could try a lower dose, and maybe get 'used' to it, but no such luck, the reaction occurred as before. Its unfortunate as its a drug that helped a lot of people. She also tried a bone building medicine which also reacted on me, and she had hoped I would get 'used' to it, but I just kept being sick :( Unfortunately, the result is I now have very severe Osteoporosis. So not fair the way I always tried to workout long and hard.. I am on a different bone builder that I hope works.
I sure hope this works for you..Lupus is such a horrible disease :((
Keeping fingers crossed!!

Hi Teri......I just read a couple of your blog posts. I'm so sorry you haven't been feeling well.

Very glad that your read about the meds you are on and that your doctor listened to you. I hope you are OK on a lower dose and continue to improve.

It must be wonderful to have a bit more energy. I'll keep you in my thoughts and prayers.

Take care, Terry
