Dropping by to say "Hi Spark friends"

Monday, September 05, 2011

Sorry I haven't been online very much in the last month. Busy with the house construction but also having some medical issues too. Jeff has been called into work so much that he finally had to tell his bosses he couldn't work because he needed to get more work done on our house. We started this project with the understanding that he would have 2 1/2 months off from work. This has not happened as he has been called into work a lot, in fact the last 2 weeks straight. We like the money and also the hours bank is up so we will have our medical until at least the end of the year. We have just about 8 days to get the front porch finished and closed up, then all the walls need to be put up. We are hoping this will all be accomplished so that when he is working Frank and I will be doing the painting. Then we can work inside the house putting in the new cabinets & granite for the kitchen and get all the appliances in their place. And work can begin on the new bathroom. Also the current wall between the old kitchen can come down. A lot of work still to go here but it will get done.

I have not been doing too well, stomach problems which I think may be due to the medical I started taking in 2009. I looked the drug up on the company web site and it said everything that I have been having pain, gas ect. can happen after being on the drug for a couple of years. My doctor did a chest x-ray, stomach ultrasound and UGI and everything is pretty much normal (UGI). I see him in the morning and I guess he will decide to lower my dose to see if that helps.

I have been so tired that if I do any exercise (when I feel good) the next day I can't do anything and this can last a couple of days. So in 2 months I gained back about 13 pounds. I have just not been doing anything. I do help Jeff and Frank when I can but it is not enough. I can't believe I did a 5K in June and felt great and now it is like I can barely make it through 30 min.s at the gym on any cardio machine. Poor Phred has not been getting in his miles either. In fact last Sunday the 28th I went bowling with my son and felt pretty good, even bowl a couple of good games and one great game of 171. But the next day I was so tired out and I was going to dinner with friends in the evening that I stayed in bed most of the day resting and reading.

I hope to start feeling better soon and plan on getting back on the band wagon soon. I do not want to gain back any more weight, that is for sure!

Wow, Teri! So sorry to hear of all these health problems you have been having. Hope that everything is related to the dosage of your medication and can be easily solved. It is so miserable when you are not feeling up to par.

Hope that Jeff is soon able to get some time off work so that he can get done what needs to be done immediately on the house. Be sure to send us more pictures (or write another blog) to show us how far you have come!

Prayers sent your way that you are soon back to normal.

Sorry that you're having such a rough time of it, Teri. What's the medicine that you're on that's causing all the problems? Is there a similar drug that you can take that doesn't produce the same side effects?

Keep us posted. I really hope this is resolved soon.

Take care.

Sounds like you not only need your medicine dose altered but perhaps changed if you are taking a reaction this one. I love being on the biologics, it truly helps take the bite out of the worst of the pain, but eventually, my body adapts to them and they no longer work or I get a nasty reaction. There certainly are lots of medicines out there, so there is no need to be stuck with one do9ng this to you!!
Way to kick butt bowling! When I am fully healed from all my surgeries, that is something I want to get back into. I used to bowl as a youth and young adult before the RA came back and steamrolled me.
When you can't exercise your only alternative is to track your calories very carefully, weighing and measuring everything! When I had my latest surgical layoff, I set my fitness tracker to zero -no cardio on an operated foot- and tried hard to keep in the calorie range it gave me, and it worked, no weight creep back on like has happened so many times before when I couldn't exercise..
All the best with it.. Feel better soon!
Hugs,
Linda

Hi Teri. I am sorry to see you aren't feel too well. You can begin again and take baby steps to get back on track. Meds. can do a number on your body even though you are given them in hope they help. Some side effects are worse than the problem. Hoping the Dr. can try something else for you. Blessings. I am thinking about you and all you are doing. Take care of yourself!!! emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

Home construction=cement pours and other stuff

Tuesday, August 23, 2011

Front door and porch b/4 cement pour.

Jeff getting ready for pipe bending for forms

Frank working hard

This was where our old fireplace was located. We did these smaller cement pours ourselves.

The old fireplace area with the cement formed.

Frank digging holes for new footings

Jeff removing rotten floorboards

Front porch ready for cement truck

New added sq. footage, where new laundry room will be located.

Frank digging another footing. This one we will have to fill ourselves because of the locattion

Eventually the porch will have red brick on top of the cement.

Repair of floorboard in front of where the french doors will go. (old fireplace)

Jeff so proud of his work so far.

Different angle of the new sq. footage

Frank & Jeff using the new $200+ laser.

Wow! It's looking awesome! You've all worked so hard. It's great how your hubby is teaching Frank so much. Don't suppose you'd like me to stop by Saturday morning and see how it's coming along? I reeeeally love the way it's gonna look with the french doors. And that front porch is great for a rocking chair. Just joking.... don't think I'll ever see you just sitting and watching the world go by! emoticon emoticon

Just checking in.

Things have been going a bit slow on the house remodel because Jeff keeps getting called into work. Thats a good thing but we are now a couple of weeks behind in our progress. Had a 3rd inspection today and past, now we will start putting back up walls in one are of the house to build the new kitchen, laundry and bath. After all that is done we will demo the current kitchen area and hopefully be pretty much done by November.
As long as the weather holds and we don't get early rains we will be alright. We do have the Santa Ana winds to worry about come Sept., Oct. & Nov. I hope there are no big fires in our area because that would really suck. I remember in the fall of 1970 having to walk to school in pouring ash from fires that surrounded my hometown of Thousand Oaks, CA. They finally canceled classes after 2 days of going to school in the bad air. Too many students started to have breathing problems. Duh!
I have had good days and bad over the last 2 months. I keep having stomach problems and could be either stress from the house construction (although I don't feel stressed about it) but with Lupus, you never know. Or the current medication I have been on since 4/09 for my kidneys is giving me side effects. I looked it up on the net and I am betting that is my problem. I see my doctor on the 25th and will talked to him about this.
Talk to you all later. Hope everyone is getting in their exercise mins and drinking enough water too!

Sorry you are not feeling good :( Delays in getting your house done would be stressful with the approach of bad weather like that a possibility. Hope you do get the medicine looked at. The 25th is a bit far away if you think you are having a reaction to it.
Still healing my foot after surgery so no exercise here :(, just a sore butt from having to sit so much, what a difference no exercise makes!!! Its still uncomfortable to walk on my foot. Always have lots of water, just don't feel right without it. Can't understand why people struggle so much to down it!! Most refreshing beverage there is when its hot and sunny!!
Hope you have a good week!

The week

Friday, July 29, 2011

Well this week Jeff worked Mon-Thursday and Frank & him are doing some stuff to get ready for a concrect pour (hopefully on Monday). We are a bit behind but making money while we are spending money is a good thing. Also keeping up the bank hours for insurance is a big releaf for us. I have had his union insurance for a few months and it looks like we are good until at least Sept or Oct. at this point. Of course he will have more work b/4 than so it looks like we may be good for the rest of the year. You have to bank at leasst 135 hours a month to get the insurance. Our insurance company through his union changed at the beginning of the year to Aetna (which we don't really like too much, so far). We had Pricipal Life for 18 yrs and it was great. My friend Cora also has Aetna now and she hasn't been too happy with it either. I do think we have better coverage than what her hubby has from Boeing.
I made it to the gym on Monday and Thursday and used my stair stepper on Tuesday. I plan on using the SS again this evening too.
Getting a lot of nice walks with Phred the wonder dog too. He had his hair cut the other day and I think he is much more comfortable in the heat. He is such a
handsome dog, happy at home with us, just wish he got along better with other dogs and our human friends that come over. LOL Thats about it for now but know that I will be working on the house tomorrow.

Glad that the work on the house is progressing! We have Blue Cross/Blue Shield Insurance from my work and I like it pretty well. We did have Aetna years ago, and I was not too impressed.
Glad that you are getting lots of exercise in and that Phred is doing well! Take Care...........

Hi Teri. Good to see you around. I have not been keeping up with your activities and glad to see you are progressing. I am not familiar with Principle Life but a little with Aetna and if I were given the choice of several, that would be one I won't take (at least in MN.) Glad to hear you will at least be covered another yr. Take care and don't work too hard:)

Progress

Sunday, July 24, 2011

We have had a slow week on progressing on the house. Jeff has gotten called into work a few times over the last couple of weeks. Which is a good thing. The weather has been pretty hot every after noon, so he takes a nap after lunch. Which really means my son and I also get a break. Thanks goodness we don't have the humidity that everyone else gets in the mid west and east coast. I hope the weather gets better for all my friends who live in these areas. Keep cool and drink plenty of water, OK
My good friend and neighbor Rosa is losing their home. Her daughter Frieda is like a grandchild to me. I am so sad, they have done everything but once again they are over 3 months behind on payments. The bank has already adjusted the home a couple of times, they are just too under water right now to keep making the payments. The home is lovely and was remodeled when they moved in just about 10 yrs. ago. They signed to put the home on a short sale. It could take months and we are all hoping the bank lets them stay for a while. Better to have a family in the house then for it to stand empty for months. Just have to wait and see how long they are allowed to stay. So many have lost so much. I hope something happens soon to turn this bad economy around.
Hugs to all.

So very sorry about your neighbor Rosa :(( The economy is tight for sure. Its ironic, all around my step dad's house, they are doing massive renovations on the properties around here. There is constant construction noise early in the morning until late at night. Then there is my sister, whose husband had three crop failures and had to give up farming his own property and work for others and my sister, in her 50's having to get a physically demanding janitor job for the public schools to help keep their farm afloat.. My brother also keeps two jobs going to support his family, a wife unable to work, and two adult children in between jobs and thinking secondary education. Some people are thriving, where as a lot are struggling, depending on how lucky you are in the job market, although a lot depends now on good secondary education..I hope Rosa has something good come her way..
