Lavender wild flowers.

Yellow wild flowers. No I have no idea what these are called.
Most of the wild flowers in the desert area you can only see for a few weeks or so. With our weather being so back and forth, it looks like there will be a longer blooming season. I will post the rest on another blog to follow.

Looks like a fun hike. Those Lavender flowers remind me of the Sweet William which will be growing in the woods here in a few months. Probably something else entirely though.

Desert flowers have a special beauty because they're so brief. Glad you got a chance to see them. Hope you're having a lovely Spring.

Lazy Sat. Morning and other weekend stuff

Sunday, April 03, 2011

Stayed up late on Friday night to watch "Halloween:the beginning", I have see all the other Halloween movies so I figured I had to see this one too. lol I have been a scary movie fan since I was a little kid. My older sister use to get scared watching the soap opera "Dark Shadows" from the 60's, so she would have me watch and keep her updated. I guess this would be from around 10 to 14 years old for me.
Did a few small things around the house but the weather had cooled off and I just didn't feel like doing too much. So I shifted my off cardio day from Sunday to Sat. No biggie.
At 4:15pm my friend Irene picked me up and we went to the movies ("Rango" with Johnny Depp playing a cartoon lizard). The movie was very funny, but not really for young kids, older kids 10 or so would get the more adult jokes. Afterward we went to dinner at a place called the Katella Grill. It has very good food and I had not been there for a number of years. I use to go with my daughter on occasion.
Today I walked Phred for close to 4 miles because he didn't get any walk yesterday. He really enjoys his longer walks. After NASCAR was over I went over to the market to pick up steak, milk and some other items we needed.
We BBQ'd the steaks and they came out very good. The men folk had good thick NY cuts and I asked the butcher for a smaller cut for myself. My DH worked on a friend's car in the driveway and later my son washed the car he was working on. I washed my car on Thursday evening, when it was warm, but looks like it is once again cooling off. Same old, same old here.
DH leaves for Chicago again on Tuesday morning for 10 days. He will be going back in May and most likely I will go for a few days too. Any of my SP friends live in the Chicago area?? I have an old room-mate to meet up with but would be great to meet up with some new SP friends?? Let me know anyone?? Don't have the exact dates yet but will let anyone know who would like to get together with me? emoticon

Too bad I am 8 hrs. away from Chicago! oes your Husband ever come to Minneapolis/St. Paul for business? If you come to the Twin Cities some day, I would love to meet up with you. Have you ever though of going to the Mega Mall or Mall of America?

You sound as though you had a wonderful weekend! Yum...steaks on the BBQ! Beef is one of my downfalls. I was raised on it and really enjoy it too much!

Take care and have a good week ahead.

Very warm weather

Friday, April 01, 2011

Yesterday a new record was broken for March 31st. It was 92 degrees. A few days ago, it was in the high 50's to mid 60's. I took Phred for a walk around 4pm, and I was sure sweating when I got home. I decided to wash my car after dinner. She looks so nice when she is clean.
Ran some errands with my husband yesterday morning and again today. Got about 5 bills paid and went to the post office to mail them and get stamps. The PO guy Doug (has been there for years) was telling the person in front of me that they were short on $1 bill and she might have to take a couple of dollars worth of quarters. I said Doug I have a bunch of $1, you want to buy from me? Doug was all over that, I ended up trading him 25 $1 bills for a $20 & $5.
I then went to the gym since I was driving. Had a good workout, and showered at the gym. Came home and had lunch at 1:30pm while watching ABC's soaps. I watch at the gym too, because they have 13 tv's and I try to get on an elliptical that is in front of or near the one on ABC.
I took Phred for a walk again at 4pm and it was a bit cooler with a nice breeze. DH went to meet up with our friend George who has our blue line prints finally done. Now we just have to file them with the city and our construction will start in June for the house redo. I am so jazzed this is done and we can start. Frank and I went to eat at Denny's. I realized after I ordered that I could now get the senior menu, 55+. Sort of funny because I don't feel 55. I am health wise, so much more healthier that I was just a few short years ago.
I am finally going to spill my secret. I have been practicing and planning on running (jogging in my case) my first 5K on Flag Day in June. It is downtown Anaheim and I am sure I will have no problem doing 3.10 miles. Yesterday I did cardio at the gym, on the treadmill including the 3 min. warm-up and 5 min. cool-down, total 25 min. I had 1.72 miles, so I know I can do this. I also did the elliptical for 45 min.
Today at the gym I did the 30 min circuit training and 50 min. on the elliptical and did 5.15 miles.
I hope everyone had a fun April Fools Day and didn't get too fooled!

I'm so excited about your run. I can't wait to read all about it! We've been having crazy weather here too. 80 degrees last week.. unheard of.. then freezing again with some snow flurries.... now back to the 60's and so windy we're about to fly away. Love ya, Dawn emoticon emoticon

Before you do that you need to do it outside so that you can really feel what it is like. It is not the same as being on the machines. No traction. So make sure that you do it on the side walk or at a track that is at the schools. That will give you an idea of how your body will do.

I wish we had your weather here. We were in the 50's and cloudy.

Have a great weekend !

Woke up to a DH who was mad because he got a virus on his PC

Wednesday, March 30, 2011

When I got up this morning my husband was on the phone to tech support. He had a false email that he thought was an update from MacAfee. Not! Anyway he was not a happy camper. We have free MacAfee through ATTUverse and since we started using this protection this is the 4 time that a really bad virus has gotten on one of our PC's. We had Norton for years, with no problem, DH doesn't want to pay for something we get free. But how free is it, when every time you call for help it costs a minimum of $50? The last time was in late Feb. when he spent $95 and last year twice we had to spend $150 and $75 on mine. Of course this time was $50 but after it was fixed and DH went to do an MicroSoft update we got error messages. DH called back and the stupid person on the other end was of no help at all. He ended up calling ATTUverse customer service and finally got it corrected.
I went through my coupons for the store this morning and then went off to the market. I ended up saving $110 dollars with coupons and sale items. Still spent $212 but I hadn't really got to the market while DH was gone to Chicago and I need a lot of cleaning supplies and kleenix that I forgot to pickup last week at Costco.
I came home and ate lunch and then went over to the gym, went on the treadmill for 25 min and then the elliptical for 45 min. Colored my hair after I got back (it seems that as soon as I turned 55 on the 21st of this month) my hair has gotten greyer. To hell with that, I say. There is no reason a woman should have to have grey hair. If you still look young and feel young, it just makes you feel better about yourself. At least that is what I think, and most of my friends feel the same way. I don't keep it as dark as I use too and no longer do the crazy colors I did for a number of years (like very red or purple highlights) even platinum blond while I went through chemo.
Anyways while the color was in my hair I took some bread (wheat) I had been saving and put it through the food processor to use with meatloaf tonight. We also had potatoes, apple sauce & low calorie crescent rolls. I then took a shower, got the meatloaf & potatoes ready to put in the oven.
While they were baking I took Phred the Wonder Dog for a walk and ran into my friend Connie who I hadn't seen for a while. Sometimes we do evening walks together. She said she had joined Curves because they started doing Zumba classes which she enjoys every much.
Hope you all did well on exercise min. and drank your water??

I haven't had a problem with a virus, thank heavens. I have free AVG and it does a great job. I also use CCleaner which cleans up my CPU and lets me know if there is a problem i.e. virus, worm etc.

You did really super with the coupons. I use them with sales as well. My goal is 30-50% off the total bill and I am almost always there. Trouble is, fresh produce is so expensive. We can only try!

AdAware and AVG are a couple of other good ones. I ended up spending the money for both Norton 360 and Norton Utilities, and am glad I did. It's really kept my computer tuned up, and I rarely have to do a virus checker because it checks them automatically.

If you want to spend some money on a good program you can get F-Prot or F-secure. They are both good and will protect your computer as for MacAfee it is not a good program for virus protection. I know because I worked in a computer repair place and all the people that had that on their computer always got viruses on their machines. No I do not work for either company.

Color the hair. I think as long as you feel like color go for it.

Computer viruses are such a pain. This sounds suspicious what you are going through. I have McAfee on two of my computers and I have not had any problems. One if through Verizon Fios.

Anyway, hope it gets better soon!

I actually drank around 12- 8oz glasses of water on Wednesday. Whooo! I hope your DH gets the computer fixed. We use Viper that my DH downloaded off the computer. It costs some, but not nearly as much as you have spent on repairs. It works very well. I have you in my thoughts and prayers. I pray that your health continually improves where you can keep up the awesome job you have done. emoticon

I would be mad to if my AntiVirus wouldnt work right. My DH puts the free version of AVG on our computers and it works really well. He is a computer tech and says it is one of the best that you can get for free and not that hard to use...it also updates automatically. Your day sounds like it was full of life and also so awesome you saved so much money with coupons. I dont get coupons and to be honest even when I do have a few I forget to take them with me...lol. Hope today is a good day for you!

Friday my husband got home from Chicago. After my son and I picked him up at the airport we went to dinner at Ruby's. I had a turkey burger (protein style, which means no bun only lettuce) and a small side salad with lemon.
Friday morning I went to the gym with Irene and we stopped by IHOP after our workout and shared my free birthday meal (Rooting Tooting Fresh and Fruity) we had it with blue berry's. We each got 1 sausage, 1 bacon, 1 pancake and half of the eggs (egg beaters) I had orange juice and Irene had a bowl of oatmeal. We met up with Debbie who was there after a job interview at Knotts Berry Farm. Debbie did not get the job and I think she is a bit upset. She has been looking for well over 9 months.
Saturday we went to the horse races at Santa Anita. It was pretty cool and never saw the sun because of the dark clouds. Did have some fun and good food too. I spent $90 on betting during the day and won one race for $48, so I made back a little over half of what I bet. My husband always gives my son and I $100 for the day. The really sad part of the day was one horse fell during a race and they had to put her down. It was just so sad to see this beautiful horse break both of her front legs. Everyone was so shocked because I think I have only seen this happen a couple of times in my whole life at the tracks. emoticon
Sunday was a lazy day and I had no energy but did manage to take Phred out for a short walk of 25 min. It was cold until the afternoon and I stayed in my PJ's most of the day. I had done 2 loads of laundry early Sat. morning b/4 we left for the races and did 2 more after we came home at about 6pm. I then did the last one on Sunday morning. I read all the Sunday paper and cut out the coupons and looked at the ads I wanted to check out at K-Mart & Target. My daughter Samra , her foster brother Jory and his girlfriend Eve sent me a $25 gift card at Target and this week they have some sport wear on sale and I would like to purchase some new workout shorts.
Monday was shot because we had Chinese food on Sunday evening and for some reason I had problems with my stomach. We have been going to the same place for years so I don't think it was the food. I kept burping and tasting the food for hours and had to take 3 tums at bedtime. I didn't fall asleep until after 1:30am so I waiting until around 3pm to take Phred for a nice 50 min. walk. Made a roast with potatoes and carrots for dinner.
Tuesday morning met up with Irene and we had a nice workout at the gym. I walked from home as the weather has started to warm up again! emoticon
Took Phred for a nice afternoon walk too. Made Chicken, couscous and French style green beans.
Night for now, off to watch TBL! emoticon
