So sad today because of the passing of Liz Taylor

Wednesday, March 23, 2011

I have always been a big fan of Liz's. She was a great person and did so much for so many who have nothing and those with aids. She was never afraid to stand up for what she believed in. She was a loyal friend to Michael Jackson when many would not have anything to do with him. She was a righteous woman, one the world will surely miss.
So this morning I took Phred the Wonder Dog to the groomer. He once again looks so cute, with the little bear face. It was after I got home that I heard about Liz. I knew it was coming and it always seems to come in 3's. Will have to wait and see which of the famous goes next?
Didn't get as much exercise in today as I would have like. I had no energy but I still managed to get over 5 1/2 miles in, so not too disappointed. Made a nice chicken breast dinner for my son and I. Kept to the lower end of my calorie allotment. Hope everyone drank their water today??

I don't get very invested in celebrity lives. She had a long one and she had a hell of a lot of fun!

Like others have said, I will miss Ms. Taylor. In my opinion, she was a STAR, unlike most of today's actors.

I was sad too - read an online article about the many physical challenges she faced in her life along with the more famous relationship ones. She was a great lady -- nothing to compare with her these days.

As soon as I heard about Liz I had to text my DH with the news. She was most certainly a wonderful person. You did excellent to me with your exercise 5.5 miles is nothing to snuff at. Your dinner sounds really yummy too....I also had grilled chicken breast for dinner with mashed potatoes. And Yes I did get in all my water and then some. Hope tomorrow is a great day for you.

Blog about weekend and birthday celebration

Tuesday, March 22, 2011

I had a very nice visit with my sister Doreen and her husband Fred. It was great to see their place because I had never been there b/4. We went to the town of Julian (an old gold mining town) for apple pie on Friday afternoon, then walked around and she purchased a nice pair of earrings for my birthday (I purchased a 2nd pair) they were on sale at 25% off.
After that we went to a very small Indian casino for dinner and then did a bit of slot machines. I put a $20 in and stopped when I hit $38. Fred was doing penny machines and he wanted to lose. I had him start to hit the max. bottom which is .20 cents and after 2 times he hit big (for this type of machine) and came out just short of $20, he started with $1.
On Sat. we met up with a friend of mine and her husband to do a hike at Borrego Anza/Springs which was fun but very cool/cold and windy. My sister had to stop a little over half way up and her husband took her down. After my friend Sandy, her DH Mike and I made it to the top, where there is a water fall and oasis, also long horn mountain goats/sheep. We started to head back, Sandy knew I wanted to get back down to check on my sister. So I jogged/ran down the mountain and made it back close to 40 min. b/4 Sandy and Mike showed up. Sandy was impressed with my time down the mountain.
The rest of the weekend was pleasant and got pretty cold. I took a morning walk on Sunday and it was about 39 degrees and I had no gloves.
Drove home and it started to rain hard within 10 min. after I got here and didn't stop all night. Lots of flooding and trees came down due to winds and rain.
Yesterday my friends Irene & Debbie took my son and I out to lunch to celebrate my birthday. It was lots of fun! Will show pictures after this weekend.

Cooled off today/Happy St. Paddy's Day

Thursday, March 17, 2011

The weather has changed again and it cooled off today. The sun did come out in the late morning and was pretty nice outside. They are calling for heaving rain by Sunday and Monday (with snow again in the mountains). I will be heading to my sister's in the mountains above the San Diego area near Temecula, at the 3,500 ft elevation or so. They only expect snow above 5,000 feet and I am so glad for that. I will have my DH's truck to drive there and I am happy about that. Driving my corvette in the rain is not fun and the car (an '81) is really not made for wet roads because of some modifications.
I hope everyone had a great St. Paddy's Day and may the luck of Irish follow you where ever you go! emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

Enjoy your time with your sister! Mine is coming in to the city March 24 for the third try at her Fireman's Papers. She was so close to passing last time..
Drive carefully, rain is no fun on mountain roads..

Pretty fun weekend, wish I had my camera with me.

Wednesday, March 16, 2011

Sat. my DH was working a show for health products (for insiders only). He got me into the show and I had a blast. Was so glad I only ate a small breakfast, I got to try so many samples and get samples to take home. I tried all kinds of products from goat cheese/yogurt, to drinks like coconut water/vegetable juices. My DH even purchased for my birthday and really nice juicer, for half price. What a great guy!
I also got to meet Fabio' and get his autograph. This is why I wish I had my camera since my cell phone is just that, a phone. For those who do not know who Fabio' is, he was the #1 male model back in the day for all the romance novel covers. What surprised me most was how kind he was (doing a meet and greet isn't much fun) and still very good looking, in fact I thought he was better looking in person than in some photos. He signed his photo right in front of me and I am sure if I had asked him to sign it to me, he would have. I was a little slow on asking him to sign it to me, rather than just signing it. A lot of the younger people I ran into didn't know what he was famous for but knew the name. Most remembered their mothers talking about him, really ages you when 30' something's say that to you. LOl
DH has worked none stop since he returned to work a couple of weeks ago, and is having no problems since his recovery from appendectomy surgery in Jan. In fact, he left for Chicago this morning. He is loving the place he is staying at. He is on the 40th floor in a one bedroom condo type place, he has a full kitchen, laundry too and on the 4th floor is an indoor pool, library and full gym.
I would have loved to have flown in for this coming weekend but we are saving money for our home remodel in June. I have an old friend (room mate) that lives about 10 miles outside of Chicago. Our birthdays are only a couple of days a part and she would have loved to show me the town and celebrate with me. Most of the time I would have been on my own, which would have be fun but always better run around with the one you love.
With Jeff most likely working 12-14 hrs a day, I wouldn't have seen him. I would have to take a taxi to the hotel, then figure out what to do with myself while he worked. The hotel isn't suppose to let me in his room without him there.
Oh well, he may go back in May and of course next year.
The last 2 days have been busy with me shopping for him and getting his stuff ready. I drove him to the airport this morning and then walked over to the gym.
Had a great workout, did the 30 min. fitness routine (10 steps & 10 machines, do each for 60 sec.) then I did cardio. Took a fast shower to get the sweat off, since I had just shower in the morning, then walked home for lunch. Took Phred out for a nice walk in the afternoon.
Our weather has been great but now it is suppose to rain by the weekend. Which really sucks since I will going to my sis's in San Diego for the weekend. She lives at about 3,500 ft level in the mountains above Temecula, she had 6 inches of snow a few weeks ago. This will be a nice early birthday present (I will 55 on the 21st). Then I will be home on the 20th and on the 21st celebrate with my son and possible some friends.
Wishing everyone a fun and safe St. Paddy's Day tomorrow!

Nice day again but cooling off for the weekend.

Friday, March 11, 2011

Went to the gym again today. Had an appointment with a trainer at 9am. with 3 other lady's. Planet Fitness does free training in small groups. After that I came home and did a few things around the house. Did 8.88 miles, 181 fitness min. & 13,885 counted steps (most likely did more but didn't wear my pedometer all day).

My son Frank has been bugging me for a few weeks to go over to The Candy Man.
Yes, it does sell volume candy but also services every roach coach (food trucks)around this area with pre-packaged burgers, burritos, snacks ect. He got himself several different types of things like frozen Jalapeño burgers, large reg. burgers, french bread pizza and some breakfast pastries. Anyone who has one of the food trucks outside or where they work, knows the types of things that is sold on them. He likes this stuff for a change of pace from Stouffer sandwiches and lunch meat. Hadn't been in a couple of years, same guy working the register. He was like "Wow, I remember you! You look so different." This was a place I used when we had all 3 kids living at home and all their friends here all the time eating us out of house and home. If you pay $4 for this type of burger from one of these trucks, at CM I pay less than $2. I was hoping they had Carefree gum in the new flavors like Chocolate Chip Mint, you can get the small box that holds about a dozen or more packs for less than $10.

DH just got home from work, made it b/4 8pm. So I am going to get off the site to visit with him, since I haven't seen much of him the last week.

Ha ha, they still call them roach coaches?!! emoticon

Back in the early '80's, I used to work in a place that made sandwiches for vending machines and trucks. We used to call the trucks roach coaches. Haven't heard the term for years. It cracked me up.

Wow, you have a trainer and everything. Sounds like you're really taking care of yourself and your pictures are looking good too. Here's hoping I can catch up with you soon.
