Thanks to everyone for the Valentines wishes & goodies

Tuesday, February 22, 2011

I noticed I had a few Valentine wishes and goodies. It is still too difficult to write each of you personal "Thanks". I do want you all to know how much you kindness and good wishes have helped me over the last 5 weeks or so.
I still have pain, much more by the end of the day, which is when I do my Sparks stuff. I can only handle about an hour total, with breaks. I have gained a couple of more pounds but I know I will get it off in due time. I am once again moving my end date back, this time to June 29, 2011. This will be my 26th wedding anniversary and if nothing goes wrong (like falls or sickness) then I will be on track to get down to my goal weight. Love to you all! Teri

Just stopping in to say "Hi" to my Sparks buddies

Sunday, February 20, 2011

Well I had a walk and lunch date with my friend Sandy (Subsmith) on this site. Anyways this was on the Thursday the 10th of Feb., her daughter is a nurse and she has taken a lot of medical classes in school. She took a look at my thumb and thought it might be dislocated. I had thought the same but the DH had poo pooed that. Well guess what I took Sandy's idea of warming the arm in the shower, rubbing & lightly pushing around the area that hurt so much. And lo and behold the bone or whatever made a noise, it hurt some but I could now wiggle and move my thumb again. I am not 100% yet and I do still have a lot of pain in the palm area all around the thumb. I can now type some and without as much pain. I worry now that I may have nerve damage because it is obvious, at least to me and my family, that the thumb had been dislocated for 3 weeks. This was a problem I told the doctors about but they never really examined the thumb just every other part of my right arm.
Ok that is the latest update and I am going to start back up with Sparks I hope tomorrow. Now it is the new season of The Amazing Race coming on.
Anybody catch Daytona today! Pretty cool finish. Just love it when the new young men beat the professionals. Hehehe Teri

Glad you are mending well. I have had a dislocated thumb for many years now due to the RA. I don't even know when it went that way, but I can use it normally, without pain and just a little bit of limited mobility. I could even lift heavy things with it, but can't now due to the elbow replacement (5 lb limit).
Have a terrific Tuesday!!

Thanks to all my Sparks Friends.

Tuesday, February 08, 2011

Just wanted to say a bit "Thanks" to all my Sparks friends. I appreciate all the kind words and goodies. I have a severe from my elbow to my wrist and was told I should have kept on the split/cast longer than I did. ( I took it off after a week), should have been on 2 -3 weeks minimum. My DH went out of town til the 13th to work, so I would have had to take it off early anyways. There was no one to help with bagging the cast, so I could shower. I wasn't going to let my
24 1/2 yr. old son see me naked. Homey don't play that game.

I still cannot get my arm to go all the way straight, doing the exercises the doctors PA gave me over the phone. (I was doing them already anyways). My problem now seems to be the wrist and lower right thumb area just above the wrist. Driving is OK unless I have to make a tight turn and then my hand screams "Stop that!". I do housework in bits & pieces while my wrist is almost in constant pain, but have started doing some indoor exercise walking dvd's again. Also took a nice walk along the SA River over the weekend with Irene.

My son and I have been taking Phred out for a short walk every afternoon. Phred would like to go longer but son is in college and has a lot of studing to do.

Oh by the way, for those of you who read one of my blogs from last month about the doggie groomer I use to take Phred to being a Medical Marijuana place. I was right, big article in local section of OC Register today because the neighbors were protesting the other day. Seems they have added a Green Cross to the dark window, which indecates what it is. (Didn't know that was until they paper stated such). They didn't have that on the window the day my DH and I stopped to make a grooming appointment for Phred. LOL
Not a good way to keep what your doing under wraps. They are located just around the corner from the main library, which is next to the main police station, and only about 1/2 or less from Anaheim HS. So I can see how some people would be protested this. But this also seems like a good place because it is so close to the police station, that they will be keeping an eye on the place to make sure there aren't any problems.

I'm sorry to hear that you are in so much pain, too! I hope that your arm does heal correctly and that you will be able to eventually stretch it out. Don't over do it - the no pain no gain doesn't apply to you in this situation! You're in my daily thoughts and prayers. Take care and God Bless!

Teri-- Would one of those braces, wrist braces, help? My husband was just diagnosed with carpal tunnel and wears a wrist brace and it seems to help the pain in the wrist and thumb area. He can't write with it or really drive well, but it eases the pain while he sleeps and he wears it while watching TV! Maybe you need some of that medical marijuana? Just kidding, just kidding! Heal well and soon!

Sorry you are in such pain:((( I have become quite adept at using just my left hand for everything as I am not even allowed to use my right. I had to do the same when I got the break in it as well. I hope you don't suffer a set back using it too early and too often.
Try give it a rest wherever possible..
Take care of yourself..

Update "Not much information"

Tuesday, February 01, 2011

Nothing new to report since I had the CT scan on Thursday. The ortho. was out of town until today, but didn't get a call from the office. The PA who I talked to on Thursday afternoon said they would have to wait to get the written report which could take a few days. I still have pain if I do too much moving with the arm or try to move it too straight. Even if something is ripped or torn I can't do anything now until April when my husbands union insurance would kick back in. I do have 2nd Medicare but they won't pay until the primary does and we can't afford to pay the $1200 Cobra payments. The union won't let us pay the reduced payment that Obama put into place because I have the 2nd Medicare insurance. So we are stuck in a "Catch 22" scenario.
I took off the whole partial cast on Thursday night. I hate things that constrick me. I kept the cast just in case they want me to put it back on. Jeff leaves to work out of town for about 14 days on Wednesday morning. I would have to remove it anyways because I would have no one to help me cover it in a plastic bag for showering.
Going to start to do more exercising again this week. I will drive for the first time tomorrow since the accident. Jeff is a bit worried because I have some pain with certain movements, but got to do what I need to do. Frank returned to college last week, so I will have some help when he is not in school. I did the vacuuming and some mopping this morning, using my left arm, wasn't too easy.
Going to bed now.
Thanks to everyone for their kind words, encouragement and goodies.

Sorry you are in such dire straights. You didn't mention it, but I assume an X Ray showed nothing? Sorry about your insurance woes :( So glad I don't have to deal with that. Hope it gets resolved soon.
I had elbow replacement surgery and had no internet access for the week I was in the hospital and missed your fall blog. I too, am unable to use my right arm and hand, and this will be for a very long seven weeks. Its like an eternity. I am right handed and not allowed to use it or move my arm. So I am stuck one finger typing and am very slow Sparking. I am staying at my Mom's as there are some things I just can't do by myself one handed. Having only two working fingers on my left hand doesn't help..
Take care of yourself and don't do anything more than you have to. You want to heal properly and not suffer setbacks. My step dad routinely drives one handed, as I see lots of men enjoy doing..You can probably do it too..
All the best with your recovery

I've fallen & I can't get up" 1/20/11 Words I Never thought I say!

Monday, January 24, 2011

I took Phred for his walk on Thursday afternoon, it was real windy with strong Santa Ana's. Anyway a blowing bag spooked Phred and he got tangled up in my legs (this happened in a matter of seconds). I went down hard on my R-side and when I tried to get up, my arm said no. So I had to call my husband with those famous words. Anyway it has taken me 20 min. just to write this. I am going to cancel my notices from Sparks teams for now. I am wearing a soft case splint from elbow to wrist. 2 trips to ER (2nd for allergic reaction)to some meds..
I off of exercising for a while of course have to drop out of the boot camp challenge because I can't lift weights or do much of anything. Saw Rhumatologist today and he wants me to see Ortho this week. Oh what fun.
I miss you all.

Sending prayers for your healing! Take care of yourself, and don't overdo! When I had a cast on my arm I found an exta pillow to rest it on was a huge comfort. When I was in a chair it helped, and at night I slept on the other side and let the cast rest on it. We'll "see" you when you get back.
