OK Should I Be Worried?

Wednesday, January 19, 2011

This is about 2 things. The first is I only lost a couple of ounces this week. I am exercising and eating good. So what is my problem. My body just doesn't seem to want to get down to my goal weight. I have gotten below 145 only one time for a few days. I just hover around 150. That is one reason I sort of took a break during the holidays, figuring to give my body some time to stabilize. I had hoped I would start to lose about 2 - 3 pounds a week, doing 2 challenges. One with a team and the other boot camp with SP.
I won't give up, I feel good and I think I look pretty good for my age. What to do? What to do? Anybody, because I know the answers. I have given them to others time and time again, about exercising too much/little or not eating enough/too much.

The 2nd thing is today they had 2 shootings today up in LA and 1 yesterday. Yesterday's in Gardena HS, today near Bell HS. The other was an on campus officer in Woodland Hills. Gardena at one time was mostly oriental, black and white, now almost all Hispanic & black. City of Bell was made famous over the last year because it is a poor community and their civic leaders were getting paid hundred of thousands of dollars do to their jobs. (more than what was paid to do other similar jobs in places like Beverly Hills and the City of Los Angeles). Most of these so called leaders have been fired and are in big trouble. Anyways, Bell is made up of mostly Hispanic with a low percentage of black, oriental or white students. So having gang shootings is not outside the realm of possibility at these school.
Today's shooting in Woodland Hills is more of a surprise. This area has a strange mix of well-to-do's with the do-not-haves. I know it was an on campus officer who was shot, so this school like so many has gang problems now.
Why should I be worried living down here the OC. I live in an area that has changed so much over the last 25-30 yrs. This was a mostly white neighborhood when I married my husband, we started to have gang problems in the late 1980's. A lot of tagging has been going on in our area since the beginning of the school year, fall 2010.
I live around the corner from our local Junior HS, my kids went there, my neighbors kids go there. It is now almost all Hispanic, very few orientals, and a small mix of black & white. Our neighbors are mostly Hispanic now (now for those that don't know ), I was brought up in a half Hispanic family, my grandfathers 2nd wife is Mexican. I have been around the Mexican culture my whole life, some of my best friends are Hispanic. I also have a lot of black friends: Cora being one of my closet friends, is the mother of one of my daughter's best guy friends.

Now the point I am making is we all complain about the same thing. We don't want the gangs in our area, we don't want our kids shot and we don't want tagging. So who is raising these other kids that do these things?/ If we all want to get rid of this problem. Why is nothing still being done to teach the parents and their kids how to stay out of gangs?
Should I be worried living just around the corner from a school that one day some kid will bring a gun and start shooting? I sure hope not.
Sorry, I am bitching about this, but it drives me crazy. Why do some kids and their parents think that violence is the answer? emoticon
I am asking my SP friends to please say a blessing for all the injured who have been hurt over the last 2 days.
emoticon emoticon

So Scary, Teri, but then, I consider the cities in California especially dangerous. As you know, I really don't like any city, and couldn't live in one for anything. I am a country person, like to live in the middle of a big patch of land so there is no one around me! Plus, we have a pipe fence and 3 dogs (1 watchdog out of the 3, LOL!) to discourage trespassers. Our gate at the road is always closed when no one is home. I just don't know the answer to troubles in the city, guess that is why I avoid them..........(then too, COUNTRY is in my blood!)Just keep it up with the exercise and the proper diet, maybe you are on a plateau!

Weight fluctuations are very common and happen to us all. While it is not what we really want - slow weight loss and change in lifestyle to support the loss and make it permanent is the best way to go. But I too have been frustrated with an unmoving scale - so I don't put much stock in it any more and put more into how I feel, my fitness levels, my endurance and how my clothes fit.
As for the shootings it also is not uncommon to have trepidation. It is a sad statement on today's society when we fear in our own homes and neighbourhoods. Wish I had the answer.

Teri, the world is getting to be a scary place!

As for your goal weight, I'm confident you'll get there!

This is what happened after we took PRAYER out of Schools. Put GOD in the lives and hearts of these people, and satan will leave.

I am a nurse in a correctional facility and I have an opinion on who is raising these children. Nobody is raising them. We have people in our jail often who have multiple children. During the parent's incarceration, whoever comes along gets one or more of the children. Often the children will change hands two or three times while mom or dad is in jail. Before you know it, you start seeing the children in juvenile facilities or even in jail. At one time we 3 generations of the same family in the same jail. It is really sad that some of these children know nothing about a stable home life.

Blog #2 today some Christmas pictures and Phred new do.

Tuesday, January 18, 2011

Got up early to take Phred the Wonder Dog for a 45 min. walk b/4 I ate breakfast and had a shower. Phred had a 10am appointment at PetSmart for a hair. For those who read my blog from a few days ago already know our old groomer closed up shop (it is now a CA Medical Marijuana business).
Anyway he looks so cute now, not the fur ball his was in the video blog.

Here is Jeff holding Phred up for a photo shoot in his new PetSmart scarf. So cute on him and he didn't even try to chew it off.

Here are a few photos from Christmas day at our house
Frank holding up his new Jimi t-shirt, he is a big fan.

Jeff emptying a gift bag.

New 7# hand weights from Jeff and the toes of my new slippers from Frank.

New KitchenAid mixer from Jeff

Jeff had a dentist appointment at 1pm, so I went with him because he didn't know where the office was located and we had to pick up Phred on the way home. It takes two people because he is not a car dog, nope. We got home close to 3pm and I took Phred for his 2nd walk of the day. Came home and did my SP boot camp video and used my new weight to do some upper body workouts.

We had breakfast for dinner, hand squeezed OJ, omelets, sausage, toast for Jeff, double fiber english muffins for Frank and I. The guys also had hash browns but I had left over mixed vegetables.

Hope everyone had a great today!

Breakfast for dinner is something I love to do, but Matt doesn't like it, so we very seldom do it! Sounds like you are getting lots of working out minutes! emoticon emoticon emoticon

Same as yesterday

What can one say about our beautiful weather! Well I know I am glad it has warmed up. With all the rain and cold we had, my Lupus, RA and Fibromyalgia
were giving me hell. Now I don't have any pain at all. That is one of the reasons I stay living in S.CA, you can't beat the weather.
Did the boot camp video along with a 3 mile Leslie Sansone dvd called "Walk Away Your Belly Fat" and the 10 min of additional exercise at the end. I walked Phred and was surprised that I got in over 9 miles and 17,375 steps just bwt. 9am - 5pm today. emoticonI say!

Another sunny day today!

Sunday, January 16, 2011

So glad to be back to our normal weather. My aches and pains have mostly gone away. The cold weather just isn't good for me. Got up ate breakfast, read some of the Sundays paper. Decided to do 3 boot camp videos, then showered.

Went through my coupons while making a shopping list. Did the marketing and came home. Phred helped bring in the groceries, he pushes the door open for me so I can carry my bags into the house. My old dog Lucy would do this and it has been almost a year since she died, and Phred over the last few months has started to do Lucy's old job. Actually I have been keeping up with the Dog Whisperer and doing what he says to get Phred under control and I know it is starting to work.

Ate my lunch while finishing up the paper while Jeff and Frank were out to lunch with a friend of my DH's named Ralph. After they got home we started to take down the old covers from our 2 gazebos. We have to replace the cover every couples years because they get torn up in our Santa Ana winds. Anyway this is a 3 person job and the 2nd is located over our spa. The only way to replace this cover is to take the spa cover off. Then lay two 2x4 boards across the middle and put a large board on that to put the ladder on. My son didn't think it looked too safe but Jeff is in construction and has to come up with things like this all the time. The only thing I was worried about was Jeff's weight being at 220# and the board not holding him. The last thing to do is put the middle top cover up, he told Frank to do this. He didn't want to get on that ladder but as soon as I said I would do it then. He was "No Mom I will do it". I was like if you fall you don't have any insurance and I do. He went ahead and did. I think he didn't want his Mother to show him up. LOL

The guys had Porterhouse steaks and I had a small NY steak, we had baked potatoes. I had s/f jello, Jeff had peaches fruit cup and Frank applesauce.
I also have a Jello Chocolate Mousse for desert that is only 60 cal.

Hey, it sounds like we both had an "exciting" day today. emoticon In fact for the last couple of days (check out my blogs if you get a chance).

Appears that both you and I are really suffering with our winter weather this year. LOL!

I'll sure be glad when my son gets back from Afghanistan so I can get some help with my projects. Right now I'd even settle for something like Phred - any help is better than none! It's nice that you get help from the son - bet you're real proud of him!

Well at least I got a SparkGoodie rake now for yard work - THANKS!

OO Carl
