Another sunny day today!

Sunday, January 16, 2011

So glad to be back to our normal weather. My aches and pains have mostly gone away. The cold weather just isn't good for me. Got up ate breakfast, read some of the Sundays paper. Decided to do 3 boot camp videos, then showered.

Went through my coupons while making a shopping list. Did the marketing and came home. Phred helped bring in the groceries, he pushes the door open for me so I can carry my bags into the house. My old dog Lucy would do this and it has been almost a year since she died, and Phred over the last few months has started to do Lucy's old job. Actually I have been keeping up with the Dog Whisperer and doing what he says to get Phred under control and I know it is starting to work.

Ate my lunch while finishing up the paper while Jeff and Frank were out to lunch with a friend of my DH's named Ralph. After they got home we started to take down the old covers from our 2 gazebos. We have to replace the cover every couples years because they get torn up in our Santa Ana winds. Anyway this is a 3 person job and the 2nd is located over our spa. The only way to replace this cover is to take the spa cover off. Then lay two 2x4 boards across the middle and put a large board on that to put the ladder on. My son didn't think it looked too safe but Jeff is in construction and has to come up with things like this all the time. The only thing I was worried about was Jeff's weight being at 220# and the board not holding him. The last thing to do is put the middle top cover up, he told Frank to do this. He didn't want to get on that ladder but as soon as I said I would do it then. He was "No Mom I will do it". I was like if you fall you don't have any insurance and I do. He went ahead and did. I think he didn't want his Mother to show him up. LOL

The guys had Porterhouse steaks and I had a small NY steak, we had baked potatoes. I had s/f jello, Jeff had peaches fruit cup and Frank applesauce.
I also have a Jello Chocolate Mousse for desert that is only 60 cal.

Hey, it sounds like we both had an "exciting" day today. emoticon In fact for the last couple of days (check out my blogs if you get a chance).

Appears that both you and I are really suffering with our winter weather this year. LOL!

I'll sure be glad when my son gets back from Afghanistan so I can get some help with my projects. Right now I'd even settle for something like Phred - any help is better than none! It's nice that you get help from the son - bet you're real proud of him!

Well at least I got a SparkGoodie rake now for yard work - THANKS!

OO Carl

Time got away from me.

Saturday, January 15, 2011

I got up pretty late today and then read the paper. By the time I started doing the house work it was close to 1pm. I mopped the whole house and cleaned both bathrooms in 70 min. Took a break for lunch and watched a little tv. Took Phred for a long walk, came home and my neighbors daughter Freda came by and we purchased some chocolate bars to help her school out (Polynesian dance class).

Made a stir fry for dinner, along with biscuits and Cuties (Miniolas) on the side.
I handwashed all the dishes, wiped down the stove, refrigerator and tables (3).
I have been here on Sparks since about 7pm and I decided I would do todays boot camp video tomorrow along with the one for day 2 and a bonus to make up for missing out today. I was so tired out today from all those steps and miles yesterday. I still managed 14,468 steps today along with 7.619 miles.

Hmmm? Busy, busy, busy. Looks like you just kept going all day!

I'm getting a little concerned about your your exercise and other activities (especially since you're tired) and hope you program in a rest day or two so that you don't get injured or end up with chronic fatigue. emoticon Obviously you know yourself best and will do what is necessary - if you listen to your body. emoticon

Take care.

Busy Day today.

Friday, January 14, 2011

Got up at 7am to walk the SA River walk this morning with my friend Irene at 8:30am. We had strong headwinds going to the park, where we used the bathroom b/4 heading back to the car. This walk is around 6.50 miles. The wind was at our back on our return, so we ended up walking pretty fast. We had to keep to the trail next to the river because of the dust. Even had a few dust devils along the way and I could only wear my cap on the return because it kept getting blown off of my head. LOL

Got home just b/4 11am and had lunch. Went with my husband to run errands: to the market, pay the electric/water bill, check out the dog groomer (only to find they had closed up soon after Phred's last appointment 8 weeks ago and it is now a medical Marijuana business.) I kid you not! Where we were going to make an appointment for Phred the Wonder Dog. Went to check out doors Ganahl Lumber ( a local lumber yard/hardward store, with several located around the S.CA area). Stopped and picked up my boots that I left at the shoe repair.

Came home and vacuumed the house for 40 min., took a break to watch GH. Took Phred for a walk, then dusted and did my boot camp video. After that it was close to 5pm, so I showered.

We had left overs for dinner for the guys. I had a Healthy Choice dinner and kept within my calorie count. I also did 24,010 steps from 7:30am - 6:10pm and 12.67 miles. I am poop tonight and hope I am able to stay awake to watch "Medium".

Wow! Those steps are amazing! Glad that you got to enjoy your walk with your friend. You had me laughing about your hat AND about the dog groomer's business becoming a Medical Marijuana business. LOL We certainly don't have anything like that in VA. Love ya, Dawn emoticon

Am I a Success Story, My Husband Says I am

Thursday, January 13, 2011

You got to love your husband when out of the blue he says, "I bet you are on Sparks right now, doing all the stuff you do on the site". I smiled and said, "Yes, I am. You know me so well". He then says to me "You know you are a Sparks success story, don't you?". I have never thought of myself that way before.

Maybe I should have thought of myself as a success. My friend Sandy and my sister Doreen (who are both members on SP) have told me I am an inspiration to them. I am still currently only at a 54# weight lost. I was down close to 60#, at one point. Then I got sick and had to take off a lot of time from exercising and gained a few pounds back. I moved my end back by a few months.

I know my husband is very proud of me because of the way he looks at me again, like when we were first dating. I know he never stopped loving me. At one time I was over 250#, and it was difficult to see the woman he loved so much gain weight. He knew I had no control because of medications I was on for medical problems like Lupus, that make you gain so much weight.

Now he is the one who is over weight at 6'4", he is currently 220#, and most of it, is in his budha belly. I asked his surgeon today, how come when he took his appendix out, why he couldn't have taken a little of the "BB" . He laughed and said " Then I wouldn't have anything to rub for good luck". I cracked up because that is just what I do.

Anyway when my husband said I was a success story my first response was I don't think so. He goes "Why not". I said because I haven't been nominated for Motivator of the Day. Then I was like wait, as long as you and my family think I am a success, then I know I am succeeding. Yes, being MOD would be nice, but what my family, friends and doctors think of me is so much more important then all the awards in the world. Thank you, Spark People for making me a success story.

What a great blog -- reminders of what's really important - those around us and closest to us, like our Spark friends, are what make the difference. Woo hoo to you and your DH!! emoticon

Teri, you are definitely a Spark Success Story! You have "heavy duty" health issues and still you manage to work out and follow a healthy diet.... Think of all the so called healthy people out there who don't even bother to exercise and make excuses for not! You are an inspiration to your team members and always make us smile! If you aren't a success story, then I don't know who is! Your husband is right! Keep Sparking! One day you will be MOD and no one deserves it more!

Teri, I have always found you inspiring! The amount of weight you've lost is impressive in and of itself. To factor in your medical conditions only increases that. It goes without saying that your hubby is one smart cookie! emoticon emoticon

Too Many Calories Tonight.

Wednesday, January 12, 2011

The day started off pretty good. Jeff and Frank work on the our osmosis drinking water connection, by changing out the old water bladder and moving it. We hope that works on getting our water bill down. They also had to work on my self cleaning oven, it was purchased in 1993 and until the redo on the house is done I don't want to open the new oven that we purchased. Anyway I went to use the self cleaning timer last night and it wouldn't work and some smoke puffed up from behind where the timer is located. Jeff looked at it today, showing Frank all things he was doing to it, cleaning the connections and so forth. Now it works fine. So glad Jeff is such a handyman and can do all this stuff himself.

I offered to take us to dinner tonight and the guys picked Poly's Pie's. It is a regional restaurant that has great food, but no calorie counts on the menu or web site. I hope someday they do this on their own. I guessed on the calorie count but knew it was going to be pretty high. I have their homemade chicken pot pie with mashed potatoes and it came w/chicken gravy on the side. I only used about 1/4 C. It also had a small amount of cranberry sauce which I took a few bites, because not one of my favorites. Before the meal came they served up their homemade cornbread with butter and honey. I also drank Lemon Tea. We also purchased some salt water taffy, of which I had 3 pieces. So I knew my calories were going to go over. I will just keep to the low side tomorrow.

I did 1 boot camp video and another bonus one today. I had a total of 14,040 steps from 11am - 7:35pm that was 7.34 miles. Eight days in a row of going over 10,000 steps. I can do this! emoticon

Hey you're doing awesome with your steps! We have the same 10,000 step per day goal, but you're doing a lot better than I am. emoticon

By the way, do you have anything left in the house that you're not having troubles with? emoticon

Hope you and the "boys" enjoyed the dinner. The extra calories were probably worth it. emoticon

Take care.

Way to go with the steps. I suspect with taking a low calorie day tomorrow you'll get right back on track. But eating out is difficult. It is so hard to guesstimate what you are actually consuming.

All the best to you...

I like your honesty with yourself about what happened tonight. You know where you went wrong, you're accepting it, and you're moving on.

Congrats on being soooo level headed!!
