Here comes the sun, at least for a couple of days!

Friday, December 24, 2010

So glad to see the sun this morning. Went to the market this AM after all the heavy rain last night and only had to wear a light jacket over my t-shirt. Picked up duck for Christmas day and got some steaks for tonight, along with 2 ham steaks for tomorrow evening. Didn't want to have any other leftovers in the refrigerator other then the roast from the other night. Jeff will have some for lunch tomorrow and I most likely too. There is still some good veggies left too.
Went up to the West Covina Hills area to visit with some good friends of ours. They have a really large nice house in the foothills and had some water come into the living room yet again. They have paid twice to get the problem fixed without much luck. Unfortunately when your home is built into the side of a hill sometimes this will happen if proper drainage isn't done, and even then after many years it can still happen. This is what has been happening to them the last couple of times when we have had heavy rains, I think in 2007.
My DH and son helped them get their furniture back into place because they have their family coming tomorrow for their holiday feast.
Came home and my son & I took Phred the Wonder Dog out for a almost 30 min. walk. He was so jazzed to be outside. He doesn't like the rain and won't walk in it. Such a spoil baby, he is.
Merry almost Christmas Eve.

Glad YOUR home is safe and not soggy. Phred loves you to death and I'm sure was out of his mind to get to go on walkies. Good on you for making plans ahead of time on your proteins. Sounds like you've got everything under control!

Merry Christmas,
Tara

Not rained out yet.

Tuesday, December 21, 2010

Well it stopped raining today for about 2 hours. My DH and I were able to do a few errands b/4 the rain started up yet again. Afterwards we stopped to pick up lunch at Wendy's where I had their 1/2 Apple Pecan Chicken Salad with Pomegranate dressing. Except for the fact they could have left out the blue cheese chucks, I don't really care for blue cheese, it was pretty tasty. The heaviest of the rain are suppose to hit S.CA sometime tonight and not stop till Thursday afternoon. We will have some warmer weather for a couple of days, not sure if we are going to get any sunshine. Then it is suppose to start raining again on Christmas day at some point.
I am pretty glad at this point that we did not start construction on the house like we were suppose to do starting in the middle of Nov. We will be doing the construction in the summer. It may be hot but at least I won't have mud in the house everyday. Wait I do have mud in the house, because the dog brings it in through his dog door. Mopping has become an exercise in futility. emoticon
Can't get rid of DH's dog but wish DH would learn to clean up after the dog. Oh wait he has me to do it . emoticon I walk Phred, feed him, clean up the yard, take him to the vet and the son bathes him or I take the dog to the groomer. Whose dog is this anyways. Oh yeah, DH gives Phred junk to eat and lets him sleep with him.
Oh well could have done better on my food the last couple of days but the weather just gets me down and my RA & fibro. just kicks in and hurts. I have been exercising, which is good.
Have a nice evening everyone!

Hope that you're managing to stay dry. Sorry that your DH doesn't take more responsibility for HIS dog. I have that issue with my son & his dogs. Oh well... the beat goes on. Bright blessings to you for the happiest of holidays my friend. Love, Dawn emoticon

When you're aching, what about just some gentle exercises like yoga or pilates, or just stretching? I know that's about all I can do when my lupus kicks in. Hope the rain stops soon so you can feel a little better!

CA gets ready for the worst rain storm in 10 yrs.

Saturday, December 18, 2010

The weather people have a lot to talk about with this storm a coming our way. It hasn't stopped raining since Thursday afternoon and is suppose to continue until Wednesday or Thursday. Some mountain road are already closed down and at the lower elevations of about 3,000 ft. or so snow is already a big factor. There will be lots of skiing this year in the local areas.
Went and got my haircut this morning and went out to lunch with Irene at Polly's. Ordered their 1/2 Avocado, Alfalfa Sprouts, tomato and lettuce on crack wheat bread, with 3/4C of Chicken w/rice. Had nice visit with her sister Sandy too. Irene got called into work early so we had to cut out day short. We want to walk on Tuesday if there is a break in the weather. If it is just light continuous rain I have not problem but don't like doing long walks in downpours.
Read the paper after I got home. Talked to my daughter Samra to see how she is doing on her new job with Target. She had just gotten off work and was waiting for the bus. She was glad to talk to me while she waited. No rain where she is right now but pretty cold in the evenings, she is just outside of Tempe. Called my sister Linda in NY, but just got the answering machine, so left a message. Did about 30 min. of housework, made dinner (Chicken Breasts, mashed potatoes, 90 calorie crescent rolls and a big salad (Romaine) with 8 oz. of 1% milk.
Going to take a break off the site in a moment to go get some exercise done. I will walk in place for about 90 min. I think tonight. Be back in about 2 hours.

We just drove over Cajon Pass - lots of fog, rain and very slow traffic! My brother emailed me that they just got 3 feet of snow - he's technically in Nevada [Incline Village by Lake Tahoe] but only a couple of miles outside the Calif border - I guess it's soggy and 'a big mess' everywhere. We need the rain but.....do we have to get it all at once??

Have a great Sunday and stay dry!

Rain and More To Come!

Saturday, December 18, 2010

The rain started last night and hasn't stopped yet. The weather people say it will not stop until Wednesday or Thursday. Be pretty cold too. No Phred the Wonder Dog did not get a walk today, but my son Frank gave him a bath. He has been playing in the mud. I have mopped the kitchen everyday for the last 2 days because of the mess.
Had my DH drop me off at Target on the way to his chiropractor's appointment, so I could finish up some Xmas shopping. I wanted to be done b/4 he got through. I was surprised when I got up to the register's, that I didn't have to wait in line more than a few min. I called his cell to let him know I was done and it went straight to voice. So I decided just to walk down the street to the Chiro's office, not more than 1/3 mile at most.
It was raining lightly went I started out but was getting heavy again by the time I got to the office. I was carrying 3 bags with me. I went to get the car keys from DH and then went back in. I thought it was so funny when my DH looked up and said "You walked from Target", like it was a long ways or something. I mean I walk more than 3 miles a day on most days and some days a lot more.
Tomorrow I am off to get my hair cut from my friend Irene's, sister Sandy ,at the salon she works at in Old Town Yorba Linda. They have a street fair but I don't know with the rain if it will be canceled or not. We will walk over to Polly's restaurant for lunch.

Sticker shock at Sears/Trader Joe's Got me Off Calories Today!

Thursday, December 16, 2010

Started out good today, was pretty cool this morning but the sun came out and I finally got some Christmas shopping done. I went over to Sears where I had a coupon that if you spent over $50 on clothes you got $10 off. I spent over $100 b/4 the deduction and got a $10 gift card back that I can use after the $26th. I also had a $30 AMEX gift card that I got from one of my survey sites. So did pretty good at buying stuff for my son, Frank. He wanted some nice jeans. I thought I would get him some Levi's and was shocked to find that if they hadn't been on sale he wouldn't have gotten one pair of them. I got him 1 pair on sale at $32.99 normally 49.99. When did Levi's start to cost so much!! I use to get 501's for $8.99 at the local feed store, of course this was the early 1970's. The ones I got for my son were not the 501's they were on sale for $39.99 normally $54.99. I am sorry but that is just too much for a pair of work pants. I ended up getting Frank one pair of Dickies and one pair of men's Wranglers. Also got him 2 t-shirts and some boxer's. Oh my there was another price shocker. I got the store brand on sale, 3 pair in the bag and it was 14.99 (on sale). When did men's under things start to cost as much as women's stuff. I guess I need to get out of Target and Kmart to see what people are spending on these things. Gee would a pair cost $20 at Macy's LOL
After Sears on the far end of the parking lot is Trader Joe's. Just my favorite place in the whole world but I only go a few times a year. I went in to get chocolate covered coffee beans for my foster son Jory and my friend Irene. I had to look around, and for those who have been in one of these stores, you know they are always doing samples. I tried the TJ's Baklava, one of my favorite desserts. Purchased some to take home, should have known better and had 1.5 servings for a total of 320 calories. Did purchase a nice healthy dinner to make until my husband announced he wanted pizza. What is a woman to do. I will make the vegetables and scallops tomorrow night.

Prices are outrageous!! Paying so much for tiny, flimsy underwear is ridiculous!!
I hate the cost of clothing, but I did get a deal on a pair of good quality work pants for $10 as it was a discontinued item :)) Wal Mart is still the place to go for the cheapest clothing..

Prices never cease to amaze me either and my rule of thumb is that if I use to really like it it probably isn't good for me and has too many calories! I hope tomorrow is a better day but at least it sounds like you are still smiling in spite of it all!! emoticon
