Busy Day Baking Christmas Goodies.

Tuesday, December 14, 2010

Got up this morning and headed over to the store to pick up some things I need to get some Christmas goodies done. I baked 2 loaves of Cranberry/Orange Bread and 2 loaves of Banana Bread. Then I made 2 batches of my Reindeer Droppings candy.
Meanwhile my DH and son were loading the back of the truck with the concrete they had to take to the dump, they did 2 trips today and still have another tomorrow. My husband left the garage opened and asked me not to leave the house until later. Which of course later never came because of what I was doing. I ate lunch around 2pm. and starting putting the lights on the Xmas tree and decorations around the house. After a while I notice the tree was leaning pretty far to one side. I had to wait until after the boys were done with their chores b/4 the tree would get straighten up. This was after dinner, which I also made, we had chicken legs & thighs. I took the skin off of mine b/4 using the Dixie Fry in the oven. Also corn on the corn, large for the men and a mini for me. A good salad and one l/f calorie crescent roll. I drank water with dinner.
Tomorrow I am heading out to Lake Elsinor to meet up with two other Sparks members, my friend Sandy and my older sister Doreen. I will do a walk with Sandy around 9am and then meet up with my sis around 11:30am for lunch at the local IHOP. I like to go to a place where they tell you the approximate calories.
I am off to finish decorating the tree. Peace to all.

Good Day, Kept Within My Nutrition Goals.

Monday, December 13, 2010

Woke up this morning to another beautiful day in CA. My DH decided since we haven't been able to get more of the construction on our house done that we will be knocking down the fireplace Tuesday and Wednesday. Lucky for me I will be gone most of the day on Wednesday to meet up with my sister (Firey1) and possibly my friend Sandy (SubSmith) in Lake Elsinor for an early lunch. Should be fun!
Anyway the DH decided since we have this large box in the living room with the new stove inside that we had to get a real Christmas tree since there was no room for my fake one. We covered the box with some Christmas decorated blankets and got a 4" tree to set on the top. We watered the tree today and will decorate in tomorrow. Also the plan is to start to take down the fireplace during the day. Should be at least a 2 day job and with the weather holding warm for a few more days (no rain). We stopped at the market on the way home to pick up some stuff for dinner and the roasts were all on sale 1/2 price. So we had pork loin tonight and I also picked up 2 other types of roasts, like chuck.
Got back home from Loews and Stater Brothers market about 11:30am and then I fixed lunch for us both. Afterwards I did an exercise dvd and showered. Took Phred for a walk and we finished putting the lights on the house. Not too many because my husband threw away our lights during the year. Why? Because when he took them down last year he just put them in an old car we had. They were all in knots so he tossed them when I wasn't looking. So now he had to buy new ones, which he wanted to do anyways to get LED's. I only have whites lights and they are not my pretty ones that look like icicles. emoticon
After dinner we went off to Fry's Electronics (like a bigger Best Buy) if you live in a state that doesn't have them. My son Frank came along and we picked him up a nice scanner/printer in one for Xmas. At 24, he needs to be with us to pick these things out because he is picky. I got him an extra cartridge to put in his stocking. Also got my DH a dvd when he wasn't looking that Frank thought he would like. This was really the first shopping we have got done for the holidays and I tell you we were sure we would have to wait in line for at least 1/2 hour. There was hardly anybody in the store. Will have to remember next year that Monday evenings at Frys is the time to hit that store for shopping.
Today was a great day for exercise and nutrition goals. I hit all my goals, keeping within my ranges. emoticonfor me. This doesn't happen very often even if I keep within the calorie range. Normally I either don't have enough calcium or too much salt. Always something.
Oh yeah, when ever I go to the store and get change, I always put it in the charity containers they have at the registers. I have no idea how much I give out each year but I don't really care, it is the thought that counts. Anyways I saw my first "Bell Ringer/Salvation Army" person just outside of Frys and I put $5 inside her red bucket. She was so jazzed and told me I was blessed. Am I blessed, well I don't know but I do feel like I am. How about you? emoticon

PC Burnout

Sunday, December 12, 2010

I just wanted to let all my Sparks buddies know that I am not ill or anything along those lines. I just had what I call "PC Burnout". Before I started doing Sparks I would only go online maybe 2 or 3 times a week. For a solid year I was online most of the time everyday for 4 -5 hours. I started to have some trouble with my fibromyalgia but never really thought anything about it. I saw my Rhuematologist last Monday and even with everything great (bloodwork) wise I was having trouble with my fingers, hands, feet, toes and lower back. I was having trouble sleeping and just wasn't following the program like I should have been. Anyway the doctor put my back on a medication that I was suppose to start on Monday but was unable to pick up until Wednesday. He also told me to take a break from the pc for a few days until the meds kicked in. Anyway I am fine and couldn't be happier with how I am feeling now. emoticon

Sounds like you're feeling better after starting the meds again - hope you continue with your improvement.

Isn't rheumatoid arthritis fun? emoticon Wish they would come up with a cure for it rather than just trying to mitigate it's effects.

Dinner at Ruby's and a good walk w/Phred the Wonder Dog

Saturday, December 04, 2010

Took a nice hour walk w/Phred today. The sun came out for a while around 2pm but by the time I was half way through our walk the clouds were coming. For the first 15 min. or so my hands were very cold but they finally warmed up. I was sure it was going to start to rain b/4 we made it back home but it decided not too even through it never got above 60 degrees today!
It is suppose to rain tonight again and maybe tomorrow. I am hoping to get the Christmas decorations up with my son if I can get him up b/4 1pm. He goes to college 5 days a week and gets up early on those days. I guess I can't blame him for not wanting to get up early. If it is raining will have to wait until another day. DH does not like to do anything like this in the rain, maybe because he is an IBEW electrician. Water & electricity don't mix.
We went to Ruby's dinner tonight. I told my DH earlier I would take us to dinner and he could pick. On the way there we were pulled over by one of our local police officers. At first my DH was just pulling out of the way when he realized it was us that was getting pulled over..?? Both he and my son were saying "That's weird, why is he pulling us over?". I looked at my husband and said didn't you just throw a burning cigarette out the window??
It is a very big deal to do that and a big fine. He does this all the time when we are driving anywhere. It drives me crazy. All the way to Las Vegas and back. I kept warning him that one of these days he will get pulled over for this.
Thank goodness the guy was pretty nice (most of the Anaheim policemen, I and others I know who have had anything to do with them, think most are a bunch of jerks). I have known a few who went out of their to help me but most are not happy with our police force for a number of reasons.
Anyway my husband doesn't lie to him and mans up, apologizes to the cop. The police office checks him and comes back to us and decides because my DH was so honest he will only give him a warning but if he catches him again he will be in big trouble. Tickets for this run about $1500 + and up. If you start a fire, like from throwing them out on a freeway (this has happened here) you can go to jail.
My husband thinks because he hasn't had a ticket in years, which he hasn't, the guy gave him a break. I feel if DH had to pay for the ticket and go to court, he would stop doing this altogether, even if we can't afford it. DH is just a jerk sometimes. One of my husbands biggest problems is if someone he knows tries to tell him what to do, not his bosses but family and friends. His brother use to do this to him and he can't get passed it. He hasn't talked to his brother since 1997.
Anyway, that is how my day rolled. How about you all??

WOW! That is a huge fine. Glad that the cop decided to give him only a warning. If your husband is anything like mine, and it sounds like he is, we can only HOPE he learns. *my dh is so hard headed*

That is one nasty habit your DH has :(( All around so unhealthy for you to be inhaling that, but risking a fire tossing them out the window?? What is he thinking??
Glad you had a nice dinner and had a good walk with Phred (who no doubt really enjoyed it!)
I can't get with the concept of rain while putting up Christmas lights lol. Its more like is there going to be any day we can do it that won't freeze your A$$ off????
Hope you have a good evening, and a great week!

With the wildfires in California, I can see why throwing a cigarette out would be a big deal. No one would want to know they had caused such a terrible thing! I'm glad that you and your DH and DS had a nice dinner.

Over 18,000 steps today!

Friday, December 03, 2010

My new goal is to do at least 10,000 or more steps each day. Today I did 18,462! emoticonfor me, I guess I am allowed to cheer for myself. I did 8,500 on the pedometer after dinner and the rest was from walking Phred the Wonder Dog and doing a LS:Fast 4 Mile dvd. I also did 4 loads of laundry, folded, hung up and put everything away. Cooked a nice dinner for the family with 3 vegetables, baby carrots, potatoes and fresh steamed green beans with slice almonds. Gave a $20 tip to our gardener and wished it could have been more, but we have had a lot of money going out this month and hardly any coming in.
CA unemployment is messing with my husband, even though he was working for months and had to re-apply at the beginning of Oct. He is owed for 4 weeks and has only been paid for 1. They didn't even send him the paper work on time. He had to email them and call them to get someone to acknowledge that they had made an error, so it has been a little bit tough. We also had to help out my foster son and his girlfriend with their car and give them some money for picking up our daughter in OK and bringing her to live with them in AZ. That was $1,300 out of pocket that we didn't plan on. Oh well things will get better soon.
