Dinner at Ruby's and a good walk w/Phred the Wonder Dog

Saturday, December 04, 2010

Took a nice hour walk w/Phred today. The sun came out for a while around 2pm but by the time I was half way through our walk the clouds were coming. For the first 15 min. or so my hands were very cold but they finally warmed up. I was sure it was going to start to rain b/4 we made it back home but it decided not too even through it never got above 60 degrees today!
It is suppose to rain tonight again and maybe tomorrow. I am hoping to get the Christmas decorations up with my son if I can get him up b/4 1pm. He goes to college 5 days a week and gets up early on those days. I guess I can't blame him for not wanting to get up early. If it is raining will have to wait until another day. DH does not like to do anything like this in the rain, maybe because he is an IBEW electrician. Water & electricity don't mix.
We went to Ruby's dinner tonight. I told my DH earlier I would take us to dinner and he could pick. On the way there we were pulled over by one of our local police officers. At first my DH was just pulling out of the way when he realized it was us that was getting pulled over..?? Both he and my son were saying "That's weird, why is he pulling us over?". I looked at my husband and said didn't you just throw a burning cigarette out the window??
It is a very big deal to do that and a big fine. He does this all the time when we are driving anywhere. It drives me crazy. All the way to Las Vegas and back. I kept warning him that one of these days he will get pulled over for this.
Thank goodness the guy was pretty nice (most of the Anaheim policemen, I and others I know who have had anything to do with them, think most are a bunch of jerks). I have known a few who went out of their to help me but most are not happy with our police force for a number of reasons.
Anyway my husband doesn't lie to him and mans up, apologizes to the cop. The police office checks him and comes back to us and decides because my DH was so honest he will only give him a warning but if he catches him again he will be in big trouble. Tickets for this run about $1500 + and up. If you start a fire, like from throwing them out on a freeway (this has happened here) you can go to jail.
My husband thinks because he hasn't had a ticket in years, which he hasn't, the guy gave him a break. I feel if DH had to pay for the ticket and go to court, he would stop doing this altogether, even if we can't afford it. DH is just a jerk sometimes. One of my husbands biggest problems is if someone he knows tries to tell him what to do, not his bosses but family and friends. His brother use to do this to him and he can't get passed it. He hasn't talked to his brother since 1997.
Anyway, that is how my day rolled. How about you all??

WOW! That is a huge fine. Glad that the cop decided to give him only a warning. If your husband is anything like mine, and it sounds like he is, we can only HOPE he learns. *my dh is so hard headed*

    Hi Teri!

Glad this little tale had a happy ending. The DH sounds quite the character (smile); maybe the officer felt your positive vibes- good for you! Have a wonderful week.

Gentle Hugs to ya,
Denise

That is one nasty habit your DH has :(( All around so unhealthy for you to be inhaling that, but risking a fire tossing them out the window?? What is he thinking??
Glad you had a nice dinner and had a good walk with Phred (who no doubt really enjoyed it!)
I can't get with the concept of rain while putting up Christmas lights lol. Its more like is there going to be any day we can do it that won't freeze your A$$ off????
Hope you have a good evening, and a great week!

With the wildfires in California, I can see why throwing a cigarette out would be a big deal. No one would want to know they had caused such a terrible thing! I'm glad that you and your DH and DS had a nice dinner.

Your DH was very lucky! Hope the next few days go smoothly for you. Your son is so right not to do electrical things in the rain.

Over 18,000 steps today!

Friday, December 03, 2010

My new goal is to do at least 10,000 or more steps each day. Today I did 18,462! emoticonfor me, I guess I am allowed to cheer for myself. I did 8,500 on the pedometer after dinner and the rest was from walking Phred the Wonder Dog and doing a LS:Fast 4 Mile dvd. I also did 4 loads of laundry, folded, hung up and put everything away. Cooked a nice dinner for the family with 3 vegetables, baby carrots, potatoes and fresh steamed green beans with slice almonds. Gave a $20 tip to our gardener and wished it could have been more, but we have had a lot of money going out this month and hardly any coming in.
CA unemployment is messing with my husband, even though he was working for months and had to re-apply at the beginning of Oct. He is owed for 4 weeks and has only been paid for 1. They didn't even send him the paper work on time. He had to email them and call them to get someone to acknowledge that they had made an error, so it has been a little bit tough. We also had to help out my foster son and his girlfriend with their car and give them some money for picking up our daughter in OK and bringing her to live with them in AZ. That was $1,300 out of pocket that we didn't plan on. Oh well things will get better soon.

Getting back on track with exercise.

Thursday, December 02, 2010

Sometimes it seems the day just disappears b/4 I can get everything done. So I have started to walk/jog in place after dinner with my pedometer on until I get to 10,000 steps. I get about 5.50miles in about 80 min. or so. I am also walking Phred again everyday.
Keeping up with cleaning all the new appliances inside and out. The W/D every week, and once a month run it with the cleaning tablet to keep it sweet smelling inside. I clean the outside of the refrigerator every night and clean the inside 2 times a month. Today was one of those days b/4 I went off to the market.
Other than the market, walking Phred the Wonder Dog, and walking in place and doing some strength exercises it was a uneventful day.

Marching in place is a great idea ! I may try doing that in the evening while watching tv. I was so excited cause I found a pedometer at Deals last week....it was only $1, but was let down cause it won't stay on......for some reason it shuts itself off, guess I got what I paid for lol.

Good for you! I need to use my pedometer again...I often march in place while I do other things...like brushing teeth or folding clothes...lol! It may look or sound silly, but it keeps me moving!
Keep up the great work!

What's with our CA weather these last couple of weeks.

Tuesday, November 30, 2010

Been having the weirdest weather here in S.Ca. One day its nice and warm, and the next it is cold, windy and hitting lows of 32 degree's during the night. I took a few days off from blogging and entering my nutrition.
I started entering again yesterday, but I had been doing the exercise portion. It was late last night when I started entering data on Sparks so didn't have time to do a awful lot.
Went to the movies last night with my girlfriends, Irene and Debbie. We all love Cher and have seen her in concert. I called last week to see if either of them would have some time off from their jobs so we could all go at the same time. We hit an early showing of "Burlesque" and got out of the movie around 7pm, and went over to a nice place to have flat bread pizza that we split bwt the 3 of us. Debbie had a beer and Irene had some red wine, I stuck with water since I don't really drink very much.
"Burlesque" the movies is a "Wow" factor for the music, clothes and dance routines. The acting is very good and funny. Cher's and Christina Aguilera's singing & dancing is fantastic. C.A.'s acting is pretty good but not great. The script is very predictable and has been done a million times. For those that love either of these lady's, you will love it. For others, well I say go with someone who likes these lady's and you will have a great time. Not for younger kids either. The clothes are very skimpy and you do see some nudity, sex and lots of alcohol.
For those that follow my blogs on a somewhat regular basis. We still have not started on construction or demolition on the house. Still waiting for DH's architect friend to get the "Blue Lines" done so we can take them to the city for approval. Because none of this has been done we are almost a month behind starting and it looks like it may take close to a year to get the work done. We had figured to have a good portion done during the time DH is off from work. Most of Oct., all of Nov. & Dec., he goes back to work on Jan. 6th. Now with luck we will be able to work on the house when DH has some time off between gigs. Once again this is if the friend ever gets the damn BL's done! emoticon
Remember "TBL" is on at 9pm tonight here on the West coast. I still haven't figured out who will win this year. At this point I am down to 2 persons whom I pick to win, this year I haven't a clue. Talk to you all later! Keep warm my S.CA Spark buddies! Actually everyone keep warm! emoticon

Hi! Seems like the weather has gone mad everywhere. I am on the East coast and our temps were in the 70s yesterday, 67 this morning and 50 this afternoon! We were under tornado watches today and that just doesn't happen this time of year! The good news is that if you don't like the weather here it will change if you just wait 24 hours. Great news on getting back on track with entering stuff...I am trying to get myself to do the same thing. It really does help. Stay warm....of course, the rest of the country things it is always warm and sunny there!

Your weather sounds more like here on the east coast- see how we suffer (LOL)?!? I agree with you on TBL. Two of my final four were eliminated last night; so I agree with you- can't figure who will win this year. Wouldn't it be a hoot if they let Elizabeth slip through and win?!?!?!?!?!?!?

TGIF day after Turkey Day

Friday, November 26, 2010

Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving. We shared our day with our neighbors across the street. I cooked turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes and gray, sweet potato/yam casserole, pumpkin bread, wheat rolls, cookies and pies, along with olives and mini carrots. Our friends came with ham and corn cobs. I ended up not cooking up the green beans or serving the salad.
Why? Because Jim's 15 yr. old teenage twins don't eat vegetables. The kids (1 girl/1 boy) are very nice but they don't eat anything. My son was like that when he was little, but by the time he was in high school, he was eating more like an adult than a child. The kids ended up only eating ham and turkey. They don't even eat pumpkin pie and I also had some Apple bread pudding with vanilla sauce, that I could have heated up but they didn't want to try that either. I will save that for Sunday dinner.
Last night I started not feeling well around midnight, I think too much pie or something. I got up and took some antacids. Anyway I didn't fall asleep until after 3pm. slept through my alarm or turned it off in my sleep. This would require me to get physically out of bed and walk a couple of steps. I must have because it was still set but off. So I woke up close to 10:30am. Took it easy today but felt really tired all day. I was on my feet from 7:30am until supper at 1pm and then because we don't have a dishwasher right now, it took me just over an hour to do the dishes and clean up the kitchen and tables. I still managed to take Phred for a 34 min. walk after dinner.
