Really hot today!

Sunday, September 26, 2010

Currently it is 8pm and 90 degrees and we are looking at 101 Monday & 95 on Tuesday. They call this "Indian" summer. Where was our summer during the summer. Now we get hot weather, so strange. Yes, it is. La Nina, they say instead of El Nino.
Poor husband is working tomorrow at Newport Beach, he is an IBEW electrician and his company did all the electrical for the yatch show. He will suffer being in the heat all day long on the docks, pulling heavy cable and the sun reflecting off the water. He will be very tired and hot when he gets home tomorrow. Oh yeah forgot crouchy too.
Did the normal Sunday routine, marketing but early b/4 10am, never walked Phred today, just too hot. Will have to get early early tomorrow if we are gonna beat the heat. Read the Sunday paper, did LS dvd 4 fast miles plus my twister machine for 30 min.
Jeff went over to our friend George's, the architech, and came home with 5 plans to the redo to choose from. We all picked the same one and I think the new kitchen, living, laundry area and extended bathroom with be marvelous. I will be posting the b/4 pics soon and then after we are done, so you all can see what our hard work has done to the house.

Looks like you had a good Sunday. Did good with your exercise routine too.
I went to the gym today and got about 1hour and 20 minutes of cardio in. Also did some strength training and some swimming.
I topped it off with going in the Jacuzzi for about 15 minutes.
It felt great !!
Good luck with the home improvement work.Hope it turns out great.

Have a great week !

Just wanted to check it

Sunday, September 26, 2010

Today was OK went with Jeff over to Loews, then with Frank to our local museum in Santa Ana call "Bowers". Got to see and hear a lecture on Korea, which was really interesting. They gave each person a choice of books to take so Frank got part 1 which was about their art history and I got the part 2 on their sciene and tectnology. We also got to sample Korean food for free and the best part was we got in free today because the Smithsonian was paying. They have a special every year all around the country where our government pays for 2 people to attend the museum of their choice. I will post some pictures tomorrow because I am off to bed in just a few mins.

Half of the house got new windows today.

Friday, September 24, 2010

The new windows for the back side of the house were installed today. I took Phred out for a walk and then over to the groomers for the day. They said he could stay until just after 4pm. Unfortunately the guys were not quit done with the last part of the installation but Phred only bark a little bit.

Since Irene had to stay late this morning at her ROP math class I took Frank with bowling since his college class got canceled. We had a good time but took me a couple of games to get into the swing of things. All my games were over 100 but the last three were 126, 139 & 159, we played a total of 6 games. If Frank could ever learn to control his curve he would be deadly. The weather was 94 degrees today and we had to to turn off the house A/C, so that is why Frank and I got out to somewhere with A/C.

Other than that just another day in paradise , as they say. If only there were not so many people, it would be paradise. emoticon

Ooh, new windows sound nice! What kind of dog is Phred? Love the spelling! When new and noisy people come to the house Jack(my cat) usually hides until they leave...

Another Sparks blog got me thinking about the last 100 days to reach my goals.

Thursday, September 23, 2010

I read the blog today on Sparks member NANJET, about it being only 100 days till the end of the year. I can not believe how far I have come since Nov. '09. To be honest I never thought I would stick with Sparks when I started. I joined in June '09, and didn't do anything with it until November. I always had a reason not to start.

1st. I had a Lupus Flare up in March '09 and my doctor put me on high doses of prenidsone (a steroid), so in June I wasn't mentally ready to start anything. I even had to drop out of college for the 4th time in the past 30+ yrs.
2nd. Everyone gains weigh on steroids and it is difficult to lose.
3rd. We went on vacation summer of '09 going from our home in Anaheim, CA to CO, across Kansas to MO then down to OK and back. I tried to watch what I ate but it is impossible to think about dieting when you have so much good food to eat.

I had a doctor's appointment at the beginning of November and talk to him about Sparks People. He told me I would not be able to lose weight as long as I was on the prenidsone. Well that pretty much pissed me off and I decided right then that I would prove him wrong and I have. LOL

I have lost pretty slowing but consistently, I was 200 and had only lost 4 pounds on my own. At first, I was just glad to lose the first 5 pounds in my first week. I knew that it would slow down to 1-2 pounds after that, but I saw how well I did and kept going. Every time I saw my doctor I had lost some more weight and he asked me about the site. He wanted to use it himself and a few of the nurses were now interested once I had got down to 170 by Easter.

After a while I got more involved with the site and groups. I became a co-leader of the first group I joined and started participating in more groups. During this summer '10r, I was on 2 summer challenges and low and behold I won both of them!

How did I do this? I became more active, I joined our local county hiking club, doing hikes & kayaking. I still go to the gym too but not inclusively. I am bowling again, getting pretty good too. I never thought I would be able to do that after I have cervical spine surgery in Nov. '06. I walk everyday and do some kind of exercise dvd , too.

At this point, I want to thank my friend Sandy who got me involved with the site. I have told her over and over again that she really saved my life. She is still not near her goal but I keep encouraging her and she tells me I am an inspiration to her. I have had several friends who have said they would not even know me if they walked right by me now. LOL Of course I would never let a friend pass me by without stopping them to see how they are doing, give them a hug, and say "Hello".

Only 100 days to my goal and I am sure now that I will make it. Of course if you had asked me when I started if I would still be here, I am not sure I could of answered "yes". Now I know I will always want to be a member of this loving community.

I want to thank all my Sparks friends and the groups that I belong to for their encouragement, kind words and laughs. Peace, Love & Blessings to you all.

You are an inspiration to all. You have succeeded in your goals and will meet your goal by the end of the year.
I love being able to tell the medical field about Spark People.
I just saw my new Nutritionist Monday and had a print out of my foods and BS. She was very happy that I had tracked what and when I eat and the way my BS corrolate. We are trying to find any type of pattern to explain why my BS will go from very high to very low a couple of days a week. So far we can not undestand the reason my body does this. Unfortunaly I have put some weight back on that I had lost. This week I will be stating back at the Y. I have been neglecting working on the machines due to severe back problems. I have decide I will lower my weights quite a bit and do an extra rep.
Hope you have a wonderful day. emoticon

Wonderful blog and congratulations on how much you've done to prove the doc wrong! I know that the steroids are notorious for causing weight gain and you've done an awesome job. Also I know people with lupus who would even try to go out and do the things you do. I have fibromyalgia and know people with it who would not try to do the things I do either, so I can relate. We have to push on and live life and fight back even against nasty disorders or illnesses that would try to make us give up. You are awesome!

Angels game on Tuesday evening.

Wednesday, September 22, 2010

Went with my girlfriends to an Angel game and we had a lot of fun. Since the season is over the tickets were cheap but that didn't keep the stadium from having over 41,000 people show up. That surprised us all. We had a lively group of 40+ people sitting in front. The group were employee's from a local "OutBack Steakhouse" and the boss was paying for the groups tickets as they were celebrating one young man's 24th birthday. The young man was so much fun and even gave me a big hug when we left. The Angel were trying out a new young pitcher and he had a shut out game against the Texas Rangers 2-0. The local paper raved about him today wishing the Angels had brought him up from the minors earlier in the season.
Today I walked Phred for 60 min. this morning. The weather has cooled off quit a bit and it even sprinkled yesterday and some today. I opened all the windows to let in the fresh air. Did some low impact aerobics using my twist machine. (Can't think of any other way to list it in the exercise page). Cleaned for about an hour this am.
Drove over to the market (StaterBros.) to get pepsi for Jeff & Frank, cantaloupe on sale for $1 each and some marinade for the London Broil I took out of the freezer this morning. We are still grilling because we do it all year unless it is storming, which doesn't happen too often in S.Ca.
Everyone have a nice evening. OK Cindy55 in LA you disapeared after sending me a Sparks Email and the site say's your page is gone, so I didn't get the email. If you changed you name or dropped off the site I hope someone out there knew you and can tell I will miss you.
