New Salter Body Fat Analyzer Scale

Friday, June 25, 2010

Recently I ordered one of these scales from Amazon with a bunch of gift cards I had earned from an RA site that I use. Anyway I have an older doctors scale in my dinning room (yeah can't miss it). I wanted one of these to see how I was doing with my BMI. I did it two ways because doing it the regular way just didn't seem correct because I knew my BMI before I started losing weight was only 40 and I have lost close to 50 pounds and this showed my BMI only .3 points lower. What the f...!!
So I reread and learned there was a second setting you can use if you are an athlete, defined as having a resting heartbeat of 60 and over 10 hours a week of exercise. Well I know from the last time I saw my doctor that my RHB is 66 (2 months ago) and I do over 10 hours of exercise a week. I left my first memory normal and the second using the athlete setting. Regular my weight was Wednesday morning 153.2 pds. and 39.7 BMI and water ratio of 64.0. Not sure exactly what that is but I knew my BMI was not that high. Athlete setting this morning Thursday 151.6 pds and BMI 26.1 and water ratio of 53.9. I feel I am somewhere in between the two BMI's. Anybody got any idea's if I am using the right setting. Anyway I do love it.

Went out to dinner tonight with my DH and son. I decided to have spaghetti and chili. Haven't had that in a long time. Thanks in advance to anyone who reads this.

Are you doing body fat calculations or BMI?

The water content of your body figures into the protein/fat/bone calculations. The higher the water - the lower the body fat calculation. So don't take a diuretic before a body mass weighing.

I just do BMI from the online calculators. I have not done body fat yet - don't have a machine.

I have no idea about the settings. Sounds confusing but a wonderful tool if you can figure what the right settings are.

I never hear of spaghetti with chili! Sounds interesting since I'm a chili lover!

Sounds rather confusing to get such different readings. Perhaps you have a place around that does the water BMI which is the most accurate. Did you enjoy the Spag/chili? Sounds really good to me! Best wishes to you!

Good deed Tuesday.

Wednesday, June 23, 2010

Yes I did a good deed today. I try to do something nice everyday. Today when I was walking my dog there was a couple of young lady's walking ahead of me, maybe 2 or 3 houses. I walk pretty fast so knew I was going to catch up them. At that moment one of the girls puts her hand in her pockets and when she pulls it out something falls to the ground. At first I just think some paper has fallen out of her pocket. When I get to it, it is some money. Not a large amount but I know when my daughter was that age and would have dropped some money like that she would have been heartbroken. There was a breeze so it would have blown away if I hadn't picked it up and walked faster to catch up with them. I was like "Excused me young lady", at first they both ignored me but finally one of them turned around and I explained that her friend had lost money out of her pocket. The funny thing was the girl who lost the money didn't even reach out to get it , the other girl did and I had to tell her it was her friends and not hers.
Finished my walk and ate lunch and cooled off. Did LS "Fast 4 miles" in the afternoon after watching "GH" and some housework b/4 that for around 25 mins. or so.
Went over my calories a small amount for today but I have already gone way over on my exercise mins. and calories for the week so not worried about it.
Sitting in the dark listening to my DH and son watch BatMan/DarkNIght. You all have a great night! emoticon

So many people would have just picked it up and kept going since the girl didn't notice she'd dropped it. However some of us just have to do the right thing. Wish we could teach the rest of the world more manners.

That was very nice of you and confirms what I said about the kayaks. You are chosen to work with newbies partly because of your patient kind heart. I too have gone over calories the past two days - one day ok but two is not. I need to get some exercise in and really be mindful today.

Good workout day

Tuesday, June 22, 2010

Got up this morning and decided I was going to hit the gym again. My husband came into the kitchen and said something to the effect he was pretty sure we were ontime with all the bills this month. I mentioned AAA/car insurance should be due about now. He looked and it was due tomorrow so on my way to the gym I stopped by the AAA office to make the payment.

Got to the gym and was upstairs in the weight area for a little over 40 mins. I count it as 30 mins. of curcuit training. I did 11 different machines and sets of cruches and reverse curnches. Next I hit the eliptical trainer w/the arms and did 55 mins. Warmup for 5 mins at level 4, 5 mins level 6 forward, them backward 10 mins level 6, forward 10 mins. level 6 for two sets, then 5 mins cooldown. Came home and ate lunch then handwashed my car and also took Phred for a walk this afternoon. Now just handing on the LT and waiting for JM's new show to come on at 8pm. You all have a nice night OK emoticon

Monday, Monday

Tuesday, June 22, 2010

Got up late, was tired out from Kayaking yesterday. Got up ate breakfast and then got a shopping list together and went through the coupons. Did very well at the market today with close to $88 taken off the bill. emoticon

Took Phred for only one walk this afternoon and about 10 mins. from the house I get a call from my husband that he needs to pick me up. We drive Phred back to the house and head over to the auto parts store and over to pick up the car he has been working. He didn't want Frank to drive the truck on his own. I couldn't believe that is why he picked me up. I am sure Frank would have been find driving the truck a few miles back to the house. Oh well got to love your man. emoticon

BBQed my dinner early because I was going on a evening walk with Irene along the SAR. She picked me up around 6pm and I got back around 7:50pm. We did 5.36 miles and I had already done 2.32 with Phred. Felt pretty good today even after being so tired from the kayaking yesterday. You all have a nice night because this lady is heading off to bed.

Fun kayaking, not

Sunday, June 20, 2010

I did have some fun kayaking today but I was again asked to help out the newbies. I really don't mind if you have someone who listens and tries. Today I had 3 to look after, 2 of them got to be pretty good after about 20 mins or so. The 3rd well that was another story. She was young and very slim and had no upper body strength at all. Just couldn't get the hang of it and was exhausted after 30 mins. and wanted to go back to the rental place. I had her wait where she was with one of her friend and paddle to catch up where the rest of the group waited patiently for us.

Told Marc, our leader, that she wanted to go back and I knew I would have to take her. One thing I also said to him was that not one of three could swim and did not have their life jackets on. They were sitting strapped to the back of the kayaks. When I signed people in for Marc, I told those who could not swim to wear them. So I guess they just chose to not listen and they are adults. But gee weez folks, we are in a harbor, with boats passing us by, and they make wakes, maybe small but you could get knocked over. I had to tell not to be sideways when a wake came but to try to head into it.

So I go back to take this young woman back to the rental place, she is really tired and it takes forever. I glance back and see her 2 friends back behind us pretty far but none the less following to go back also. I do not want to slow her down anymore than she is already going so never say a word that her friends are coming to catch up with us. They do eventually catch up and I tell her look behind us. She is so shocked to see them but they said they decided they didn't want her to have to wait for them. When get back I tell the guy working the dock area I will be right back(me restroom break) because I have to go the other way to meet up with Marc and the group and I was bringing back these 3. So I get back to my kayak and no paddle. I am looking and I see one of the guy and go where is my paddle. They gave it to someone else and now I am stuck with a sucky paddle. emoticon

I then start kayaking like a mad woman to get to the resting area, the little beach where we have breaks and a light lunch. Of course, I figure I will get there at the moment they are heading back to the rental place so I take out my snack bar and paddle along. Yep, right when I within site of the beach, Marc sees me and waves and every body heads to their kayaks. I am in the back of the group again to keep an eye on everyone. Marc is so glad to see me and that I actually got back to them. He offers to buy me lunch (a group normally goes out afterwards) I hadn't planned on going but I certainly took him up on his offer. When we got back to the rental place, I only stopped to get my cell phone out of the car and call the hubby to tell him it would be later b/4 I got home.

I must say my upper arms & shoulders are sore tonight. I did a good upper body workout at the gym yesterday, but I had no idea I would be double dipping today kayaking. Will most likely sleep well tonight. Irene called late this afternoon to ask how it went and wanted to walk tomorrow morning. I was OK,then she called me right back and got a text from a co-worker wanting her to cover in the morning for her. So we may walk tomorrow evening along the SAR and that will be OK too.

Wanted to see some new shows on tv tonight "Scoundrels" & "The Gates" but I have a feeling I am going to fall asleep during the 2nd show. Oh well. Hope you all have a great Fathers Day. My husband loves his new hammock! emoticon

Oh yeah did a short walk 1.44 miles with Phred after dinner. T-bone steaks and salad. emoticon emoticon

God certainly gave you the patience to work with people who had no business being in a kayak! Thank God you were able to take them back to safety! I can't believe they didn't even put life jackets on! You certainly were a blessing to them and they even didn't know it!! Thank you for doing that! Know that I pray for you daily .
Love, your friend,
Amy L emoticon

I must have missed the hammock thing - was it for Father's Day. I want to get one for the kids - something they have always talked about.

You must be picked, Teri, to help these people because you have the type of personality that is patient and that people respond to. It sounds like it was frustrating but maybe you can find some happiness that you were the one chosen to do this. They think that you have the skills to handle the newbies.
