I did have some fun kayaking today but I was again asked to help out the newbies. I really don't mind if you have someone who listens and tries. Today I had 3 to look after, 2 of them got to be pretty good after about 20 mins or so. The 3rd well that was another story. She was young and very slim and had no upper body strength at all. Just couldn't get the hang of it and was exhausted after 30 mins. and wanted to go back to the rental place. I had her wait where she was with one of her friend and paddle to catch up where the rest of the group waited patiently for us.
Told Marc, our leader, that she wanted to go back and I knew I would have to take her. One thing I also said to him was that not one of three could swim and did not have their life jackets on. They were sitting strapped to the back of the kayaks. When I signed people in for Marc, I told those who could not swim to wear them. So I guess they just chose to not listen and they are adults. But gee weez folks, we are in a harbor, with boats passing us by, and they make wakes, maybe small but you could get knocked over. I had to tell not to be sideways when a wake came but to try to head into it.
So I go back to take this young woman back to the rental place, she is really tired and it takes forever. I glance back and see her 2 friends back behind us pretty far but none the less following to go back also. I do not want to slow her down anymore than she is already going so never say a word that her friends are coming to catch up with us. They do eventually catch up and I tell her look behind us. She is so shocked to see them but they said they decided they didn't want her to have to wait for them. When get back I tell the guy working the dock area I will be right back(me restroom break) because I have to go the other way to meet up with Marc and the group and I was bringing back these 3. So I get back to my kayak and no paddle. I am looking and I see one of the guy and go where is my paddle. They gave it to someone else and now I am stuck with a sucky paddle.
I then start kayaking like a mad woman to get to the resting area, the little beach where we have breaks and a light lunch. Of course, I figure I will get there at the moment they are heading back to the rental place so I take out my snack bar and paddle along. Yep, right when I within site of the beach, Marc sees me and waves and every body heads to their kayaks. I am in the back of the group again to keep an eye on everyone. Marc is so glad to see me and that I actually got back to them. He offers to buy me lunch (a group normally goes out afterwards) I hadn't planned on going but I certainly took him up on his offer. When we got back to the rental place, I only stopped to get my cell phone out of the car and call the hubby to tell him it would be later b/4 I got home.
I must say my upper arms & shoulders are sore tonight. I did a good upper body workout at the gym yesterday, but I had no idea I would be double dipping today kayaking. Will most likely sleep well tonight. Irene called late this afternoon to ask how it went and wanted to walk tomorrow morning. I was OK,then she called me right back and got a text from a co-worker wanting her to cover in the morning for her. So we may walk tomorrow evening along the SAR and that will be OK too.
Wanted to see some new shows on tv tonight "Scoundrels" & "The Gates" but I have a feeling I am going to fall asleep during the 2nd show. Oh well. Hope you all have a great Fathers Day. My husband loves his new hammock!
Oh yeah did a short walk 1.44 miles with Phred after dinner. T-bone steaks and salad.
