Today was Gordies funeral out at Riverside Memorial, across from March Air Force Base.
Of course Yahoo says 46 mins but anyone who lives in this area even on a Friday morning knows you need to add 20 - 30 mins. for traffic. The traffic was heavy, but moving. I had the A/C on after I got gas in the car and got on the freeway. Knew driving over to Riverside would be very hot, in the 90's easy. The ceremony was very nice with the military salute, 21 guns and the local VFW handling the folding of the flag. Eleanor was so kind to me because she had me stand behind her with her daughter, just like I was still part of the family. Eleanor walked with her oldest boy. Neither of Gordies 2 kids from his first marriage were there. Eleanor said he didn't want them there but I sort of think she should have called them anyways, but not my call. After service we all drove clear across the IE almost 40 miles to Rowland Heights to Julies house (Eleanors daughter) which is just north of where I live I think 3 or 4 cites up the road. Eleanors kids were so happy to see me again, has been many years and her oldest Dean who had a crush on me when he was a young lad, said he didn't think I had change too much at all. I don't think I would have known any of them except Julie because she is such a pretty girl but has put a few pounds. (Like who hasn't)
I made of dessert to bring along, my famous Reindeer Droppings and her family really liked them. Eleanor wanted the recipe and when she gives me her "Sticky Bum" recipe (she has been holding out for over 26 yrs) I will give her mine. LOL Was very good at the luncheon, had a sandwich with only 1 slice of turkey, 1 slice of ham, 1 slice of pepper jack on a wheat roll. I also had 6 mini carrots, 4 cherry tomato's and 4 small chunks of watermelon with bottled water.
Driving home I did not take the freeway but another road (Fullerton Rd turns into Harbor Blvd.)that leads over the hill, because I did not want to get back on the dreaded 60 to the 57 interchange. Sort of a straight shot and a lot less traffic, to home about 3:30pm, tired and hot.
Going to get Chinese with my son in a few mins. Sort of a tribute to Gordon since he loved Chinese food. Jeff is having leftover Ribs and beans.
Do not plan to get my 4 miles in today. Normally on Sundays I take a cardio day off, but since I am kayaking and going to do other stuff on Sunday this is my rest day. If you can call driving all over the frigging place rest. I spent about bwt 3 - 4 hrs on the road. Yuck!
