What's with out weather???

Friday, May 21, 2010

Woke up this morning and it was cool yet again. Even some light rain. Where is our S.CA sunshine at, the weatherman says Sunday they are looking at a 20% chance of rain and windy. That is the day Frank and I are kayaking yet again.
You never know once you get to the beach how the weather will actually be like. The first weekend I went Anaheim was covered in clouds but Huntington was sunny.
Talked to Gordies sister Eleanor a little while ago to see when they are going to have services. She said Evan would let everyone know by email, most likely out in Riverside at the VA Cemetery. She seems to be doing pretty good. Right now she is having her house redone, tile, carpet. She says she is lucky because she has something to occupy her mine so she isn't crying all the time. I am glad she is doing so well and she has her children and grandchildren to keep her company. She has always been a strong kind woman.

My good friend and ex-husband Gordon, passed away today.

Thursday, May 20, 2010

The day started out pretty normal with walking the dog, exercising and normal around the house stuff to do. Colored my hair, showered and got on Sparks to do a few things b/4 I had to be at PPH at 4pm. About 3pm I get a called from my dear friend Sharon. Gordon's sister Eleanor had called to tell her Gordie had passed away today. This was Sharons 21st anniversary and she and the husband are on vacation. I later got an email from one of Eleanor's sons Evan, to let me know that he passed away at 2pm. Gordon had been very ill for the last few years and was even in a coma for almost 10 months at one point. I went and visited a few times but most of the time he didn't want me to see him. All the medication had swollen him up so much that his hands were 3 times their normal size. We emailed and talked on the phone. He even came to my daughters high school graduation. He was a very sweet man. He cooked, cleaned and did his own dishes without ever being asked to. Things just didn't work out for us, maybe the age difference, I was 24 and he was 40 when we married. We remained friends for life and I will truly miss him. Going to get off the site in just a few mins. Gordie you gave it the good fight (cancer) and I know you are out of pain at last. The candle is lit for your journey. Sweet dreams forever my friend. emoticon

I'm so sorry for your loss. My ex-husband and I are friends now, although it took a long time after our divorce for that to happen. We go out to breakfast about once a week and help each other out at times. We've been divorced 21 years. So I understand how an ex can be a friend and how much grief that can bring you.

No Hump Day Today, but Sucky Morning!

Wednesday, May 19, 2010

Woke up to clouds yet again but thank goodness by around 1pm the clouds were gone and the sun came out. I needed to go to the post office to get a flat rate box to ship some stuff to my daughter. Then my husband says could I go downtown and pay the electric bill. No problem right. Should have been a breeze but I get there and they have a sign posted to the parking lot saying it is full. So I drive another block away to park. Then when I walk back I cut through the other parking lot to see what, a whole bunch of parking spaces.
My friend Irene called right then so I picked up and sat down on a bench to talk to her a few mins., I then head over to the ATM on the building but "Oh no" the ATM is not working and the one at the local Vons (within walking distance charges $2 bucks to use). I walk back to my car and drive a couple of miles away to the local teachers credit union where they don't charge to use their ATM's. I drive back and park in the structure where I pay the electric bill. I then head over to the downtown PO. Some idiot is just sitting in his car in front of the entrance and not moving, I wait with my blinker on and the traffic starts to stop behind me. The car still doesn't move, I honk my horn. The driver looks and shakes his head, like what. I finally yell "You're blocking the driveway to the PO". He looks and just shrugs, finally some guy walking on the street stops at his car and tells him, what I assume is the same thing I yelled at him. We are only 1/4 of a block from the local police dept. and I think maybe the guy talking to the guy in the car must work there because "OMG" the idiot moves. By this time there are 3 cars including me waiting to turn into the parking lot. I go in a pick up some extra flat rate boxes in different sizes because the other thing my husband asked me to do is pick him up some too. So what should have been a simple 20 min. errand turned into close to an hour.
I come home start packing the box with stuff for Samra. Making sure I can get as much into it as possible. Go to the PO near our house and what luck, no one in line ahead of me. Get back home and it is almost 1pm. Decide to eat lunch and read the paper, my horoscope says I would have a bad morning but the day would get better. So I guess it was correct.
Took Phred out around 3pm for a 46 min. walk and it was very warm. Yesterday it was 66 degrees today it hit 83. I was sweating pretty good when we got home.
My husband asks me just about the time I start to cook, if I am cooking tonight. I was "Yes" Why? He friend Bob was bringing over his older corvette for Jeff to work on and Jeff wanted to know if we had enough for him.. Thank goodness for today I was making a 2 pounds meatloaf which I also made mashed potatoes, French style green beans, cantaloupe to go with for dinner. Took Phred out for a second walk after dinner.
Now I have been having a problem with my dishwasher, nothing has been coming out clean. I have cleaned the dishwasher and I notice that when I used the rinse cycle nothing was really wet. So tonight I hand washed all the dishes in the washer. I hope the husband fixes the damn thing soon. But I did learn that I used 88 cals for 30 mins of hand washing them. Another day in paradise.

Rainy Tuesday Morning

Tuesday, May 18, 2010

Was pretty cold this morning with the rain and wind. Decided to get out and do some marketing and stop by CVS. Came home and it had warmed up so I took Phred for a little bit longer walk. I think he is ready for the longs walks yet again. WOO HOO Had lunch when I got back and then did a "5 mile" dvd.
It was sunny and cool by dinner time so I BBQed the London Broil.
I off to watch "TBL" & Lost

I Don't Like Mondays, I Don't Like

Monday, May 17, 2010

Woke up to it having rained most of the night. Was a cool morning and continued to be a cool to cold day. Rained until around 10:30am, I took Phred out for a short morning walk around 11:18am and then came home. Just felt lazy this morning, I guess the weather does that to me sometimes. I cut out coupons while watching the soaps today and then did a "5 mile" walk with Leslie Sansone, showered and the husband got home from work about 5 mins. later. The day just got away from me, didn't seem to do anything around the house. Even forgot to get anything out for dinner from the freezer. Frank and I drove over to Wendy's to get some dinner, I have their Chicken Grilled Wrap to Go which only has 260 cal + a side salad with no dressing. So I decided to have some "Rocky Road" ice cream, only 1/2 C and I still kept under my calorie count for the day. Phred got a second walk after dinner and I think he has pretty much recovered from hurting his back. emoticon
