Tire flipping & Triathlon

First off...I'm not the one that ran the triathlon.

Friday was "WOD makeup day" at the gym. You could do any of the workouts from earlier in the week or work on skills. There was only six of us that day. I wanted to do Thursday's workout which was"
400 m run
Three rounds of:
-25 tire flips
-10 pistols (5 on each leg)
-20 dumbell snatches
200 m lunge
200 m run

It was a tough workout! The tire flips were fun, but my biceps and forearms are REALLY sore yesterday and today. I flipped a tractor tire. Those are big and heavy! And the tops of my thighs are very sore from the lunges. Ow ow ow.

One of my crossfit classmates did a triathlon yesterday. Tom's before and after pics are hanging up at our gym and I never would have recognized him before. He used to be very overweight and out of shape. Now he looks amazing! It's taken a lot of hard work for him and Jess (our trainer).

Jess, her partner Mindy, their daughter, myself and two other crossfit people came to support him. Jess & Mindy brought their puppies so that was pretty fun during the bike race where we were just standing around.

The triathlon consisted of 1000 yard swim, 15 mile bike ride and 3.1 mile run. Tom wanted to finish it in 90 minutes. He did it in 82!!! He was so happy, it was such a great thing to see. I'm so glad we came out to support him. :)

    I have been trying to find a tire, to no avail! I live in farm country. You would think that they would be everywhere around here! In fact, I felt a bit bad after, but my husband came home yesterday and told me he had a gift for me. I got all excited and asked if it was a tractor tire. I could feel the disappointment cross my face as he handed me a box that was obviously jewelry and I made a comment about how a tractor tire wouldn't have fit in it! lol I think that there may be something wrong with me!!

I would LOVE to give this a shot and it seems as if it would be a fun workout!

Well done on doing it yourself. Everyone speaks as if it is a very tough workout!

    Sounds like a tough workout. Yep, flipping tires would be a workout.

The new scale didn't pan out. The picture on the box looked fine, but inside it was pretty light. Both of us weight more on it than on the good one we have. Will stick with what we have for now.

No shooting today, went to the club and it was cold (50's), very windy and starting to rain. Wimped out and ran errands. Kicking back with a movie now.

I'll admit it. Last night I was getting scared to get on the scale in the morning. Who could blame me? Two previous weeks of eating & working out perfectly and a gain each time.

I was watching TV with my borderline autistic brother, Sam, last night. I got up to turn on the fan and he turned to me and said "Acacia (my real name), you are looking slimmer." Now, anyone that works with autistic kids knows they don't make comments like this ever. I have never ever heard him say this to anyone. It made me feel AMAZING. Thank you, Sam. I love him.

Got on the scale this morning and I'm down 2.9 pounds! HELL YEAH! Thank you everyone for the support the last two weeks - it's been tough. I'm hoping all this muscle I'm getting from crossfit is now doing it's job on my metabolism.

Quick update on other things since I've been MIA in the blog sections...

Sam finished his classes at the college. We're looking for a job for him in Powell or Cody. Until we get him a job (and an apartment after that), he's staying with me. He had an interview at Walmart and at the Buffalo Bill HIstorical Center yesterday. I'm hoping he gets the museum job because that's a pretty cool place.

Brandon finished Grad school with a 4.0! What a smart guy! He was here for a few days and we went to Billings and got him a suit - jacket, vest, shirt & tie (except the pants since he'll be wearing jeans) for the wedding. It was his idea and let me tell you guys...he looks SO hot! Wow.

Brandon applied for a job in Gillette (an hour from my parent's WY ranch & where I grew up) and we should hear back from that in the next two weeks. He also applied for a job in Miles City, MT. Not too far away from home, and I like Montana. I'm starting to get stressed about where we're going to go, but I'm not going to project that onto him because I'm sure he's just as worried if not more than me.

    Great news! Hope everything works out for both your brother Sam and Brandon. I would go for the Museum job since I love history. That would be neat to work in a place like that.

    Everything will work out the way its is supposed to for you 2. First of all any where you will be it will FINALLY be TOGETHER! I love the idea of suits in weddings!

and I love little brothers! I have 2 of the very best.. ones name is Sam too and he is the sweetest kid I know he is only 16.

I hope Sam getst he museum job I bet that would be a lot of fun for him!

I don't understand. This is my second week of being absolutely PERFECT with paleo and exercise and I GAINED. AGAIN.

+0.4 pounds

I don't know what to do. I am doing EVERYTHING right. Burning 2500 a week calories through exercise and strength training and eating a strict paleo diet. This is the second week in a row this has happened. Last week it was +0.7 pounds.

I'm so upset that I'm close to tears.

Talked to my trainer. Jess says to stick with it the three and a half more weeks we have left. She said it may take a few more weeks for things to go the way I want. I'm going to trust her and not weigh in for a few more weeks. It's going to be very hard.

    It could be you are gaining muscle weight - if thats the case, you should be seeing changes in body comp. Look for Non Scale Victories - they can be as important as the scale.

    How much water are you drinking? Are you taking other measurements?
Do you track your food so that you know that you are not eating too little?
My first thought is that you are gaining muscles and therefore weight.
Still, keep going. When I started to eat healthier before and started exercising it took me a few weeks to start losing weight and after that I lost it at a steady pace.

I forgot to say yesterday that I jumped the 30" boxes. Jess (the trainer) came over and commented on it. emoticon

My friend Jordan and I started making "Mario sounds" when we jump on the boxes. You know Mario from the video games? When he jumps to get a coin or a mushroom? Every time Jordan and I jump on the box we make the coin sound. The last box jump of the round we make the mushroom sound. Haha. When we do the last squat of the round we make the shrinking sound like when Mario gets hit by a turtle and shrinks. We laugh and laugh and so does everybody else around us.

We jumped rope yesterday, too. So Pheobe and I were singing that song kids do: "Cinderella dressed in yella went downstairs to kiss her fella. Made a mistake and kissed a snake! How many doctors did it take? One...two..."

Jump rope songs...
Apparently I am a kid trapped in a 26 year old's body.

"She doesn't weigh very much"

That's what someone said about me at the gym today. It made me smile. A. Lot. Another person said "she's not very big." That made me smile, too.

Yesterday I REALLY wanted to quit the paleo diet. I wanted a beer SO bad. It was warm out and a beer sounded SO good. I texted one of my friends that is also doing the paleo challenge. She talked me out of it. She's lost 12 pounds in the two weeks we've been doing it and I'm still the same. But she told me this morning that she could tell the difference in the way I look. I'm not sure if she's for real (she's usually brutally honest) but she may have been filling me full of sh!t. haha.

Carrying on with the paleo...27 days left.

    Good on you for staying strong. I know what it is like when the weather is warmer and you just feel like having that social beer. It goes down so good. BUT if you are wanting results try not to sabotage yourself which you seem to have a handle on. Good on you for that. I find my problem is sticking to the one plan.

    You can do this keep it up. Your doing great. I read some place once that others can see the changes we make before we ever do. Just remember while you can see the difference it's there.

    Kudos for staying with your commitment to yourself. Body comp is actually more important than weight. US Military uses body comp and not weight or BMI to measure fitness.
