Where oh where have I gone?

Monday, February 17, 2014

Long ago in another galaxy I was doing very well using SparkPeople and I lost 30 or 40 pounds, and then (drum roll here) I stopped. I remember getting depressed, which is nothing new for me, but I especially have that problem when I try to restrict my food. I also got tired of entering food and fitness and all the other things they recommend you doing here on SparkPeople. And then I had neck surgery and while recovering from that I really fell into a black hole. When I climbed out of that hole my hip took the opportunity to behave badly to the point I could not walk very far and when I did it was with a cane. So that brings me up to November and I had my hip replaced and my exercise was kind of limited for a while plus the weather really sucked here. I'm doing well now, I'm walking not quite a mile every day but my food intake has not been the best. I haven't gained back all the weight I lost, only about 10 pounds of it.
A local friend has joined SP and I'm hoping she will motivate me.

clean and fit

Friday, December 28, 2012

I am going to start 2013 with a week vacation and I am so looking forward to that! I think I will use some of that time to get in lots of fitness, maybe I will go to the fitness center every day as well as walking my dogs for an hour. I long ago gave up New Year's resolutions but I will continue with tracking my food and fitness minutes and read more motivational blogs. I've kind of stopped doing that and maybe that is why my enthusiasm was dwindling.
I will also spend time cleaning house, which I really am not enthused about, but starting a new year with a clean house would be good for me. Clean and fit, that's the plan!

I think it sounds like a great plan - how is it going, one month in? I am having some success in some areas, but have quite a way to go.

A clean house, a fresh start - can't think of a better way to begin a new year. emoticon Keeping the effort going is the challenge, but you can count on your fellow Sparkies to cheer you on.
I like to start the new year with clean bathrooms. With a pack rat DH & 3 active cats, I need the entire year to do the same for the rest of the house. :)

Sounds like a great plan! Stay the course with your nutrition tracking and fitness plan. Persistence pays! I need to get the show on the road with cleaning out my garage. I liked Oprah's idea of getting rid of 2 grocery bags of stuff a day. It breaks it down and makes it manageable and at the end of the week you have 14 bags to donate to charity. Good luck!

send me enthusiasm, please!

Thursday, December 27, 2012

I've been on a little vacation from SP while I was working on a commission for some of my art work and also working on Christmas stuff. So now if's back to working on me! I actually did okay even with the holiday goodies that came my way at work. I'm ending the year only 3 pounds from my goal of 236 and while that is wonderful I'm still thinner than at the start of December. I need some enthusiasm though, some of that "I can't wait to get on SP and log stuff and read blogs" enthusiasm. Lately it was feeling like a huge chore, maybe because I had so much else on my plate. So if any of you have any extra enthusiasm send some my way!

Asking

Sunday, December 16, 2012

I found this on Hippichick1's page and I'm all for helping out the Universe.
Official Top Ten Spiritual Ways to Defeat Boredom, Make Friends, Find Love, Trim Down, Shape Up, Discover Your Purpose, Make a Fortune, and Shine Your Light, are...

1. Take action.
2. Show up.
3. Lean into it.
4. Start anywhere.
5. Keep busy.
6. Get out more.
7. Ask for help.
8. Shake more hands.
9. Give more hugs.
10. Don't stop.

You were already visualizing, right?

Today,
The Universe
I have problems with 7, 8, and 9. My family history is one of not showing emotion, giving affection or asking for help, we're the original stiff upper lip Englishmen, well actually Cornishmen. I remember once telling my Mom I loved her and her reply was "that's nice."
Long ago when my Father died, I was impressed by my sister-in-law and how freely she gave affection and I vowed to try and be more like her. I have gotten much better at verbally giving affection but touching people is still hard. I don't have a significant other in my life to shower affection on so mostly it is bestowed upon my pets. I think I will surprise the next person I see with a hug.
Asking for help is also hard! Why do I think I have to go it alone? More family baggage I think. It is amazing what happens when you do ask for help though. Last summer I was telling my neighbor about problems I was having raising money for the summer reading program at the library and she took that problem and rattled all the money trees in town and between the two of us we raised $5000! She also did a phenomenal job of running the organizing the reading incentive portion of our summer reading program.
Another thing that has come out of my asking my neighbor for help is she was behind my teaching art classes to local home school kids which has been a financial blessing for me and also helped me attain a personal achievement. I really must ask for help more often! Now, just to get out there and shake more hands...

I find hugging non-relatives a bit awkward, and I'm not big into asking for help either, so I know how you feel. Good for you in asking for and getting the help you needed for funding the reading program and teaching your art classes. There are a lot of good people out there who will sincerely try their best to help. Glad to hear you've connected with a few of them! emoticon

We are created to love and care for one another at all times with everyone.

I love people, all kinds of people. People is what makes living life an adventure of fun and amazing things happening when I go out of my way to share myself with others.

I really don't care if someone receives what I am sharing of myself or not. The only thing that counts is that I reach out to touch all others at all times because love and caring can over come all kinds of obstacles in this life and when you have someone to share with difficults situations do become much easier to over come.

Just keep on loving, hugging, smiling, laughing, sharing, singing and dancing through life because this is the fun way to live life. emoticon emoticon emoticon

Happy light

Thursday, December 13, 2012

I've been working on my Christmas cards and here is a picture. They are made of cut paper layers.

I'm also painting a watercolor snow-laden tree on the envelope.
No exercise today, it was snowing heavy wet almost rain-like snow so I wimped out and I couldn't leave work to go to the gym but I'm all set for tomorrow.
Today was a big milestone, I saw 239 on the scale, a sight I haven't seen in years! Even so, I am not aiming for any more weight-loss this month, I'll be happy to maintain until after the hols.
I am gritting my teeth and holding on tight to my sanity as soon the light will be coming back on the 21st. I bought myself a "Happy Light" that is supposed to help with Seasonal Affective Disorder. I haven't noticed any increase in happiness; maybe I need to take it with me every where I go.

Wow, beautiful! Some people get all the talent I tell you! If the light's not enough, try vitamin D3 supplements. I go lay in the tanning bed every once in a while just to get warm and pretend I'm basking in the sun far, far away somewhere. I don't have SAD but I am often COLD! Hope happiness shines on you every day, spark friend. emoticon

A beautiful card made by a lovely lady. That is a wonderful gift to those who will receive the cards.

There are blue light bulbs available in stores now that can be exchanged for your regular light bulbs. They will disburse the Happy Light rays all around your home. Exposure is the key.

I like doing the SP videos on days when I can't get to the gym. There are a couple of indian cardio sets that are a kick. Check it out. You may just find that you can easily continue to loose during the holidays because you've incorporated so many healthy habits into your lifestyle. Enjoy your life!
