The Weekend...

Friday, November 12, 2010

Have a wonderful weekend everyone! I hope the weather is nice in your area. It is supposed to get much cooler here over the next few days...but I hope the weather station is wrong about that. We've been lucky so far, and our days have continued to mostly be sunny and warm. Can't complain about that, can I? Keeping all of you in my thoughts and prayers.

    Hi Pam,
I'm running a day late. Too much shopping. All day Friday and again this a.m. I spent all afternoon (well...3-1/2 hours) painting one more wall in my living room. This is probably the last day I could have at least one window open. The weather is supposed to start getting cooler (has been in the mid 60's). It is November...and usually much colder here in PA. So thoroughly enjoying all.

I've had a lovely weekend so far, but am so very tired. No real exercise today except climbing up and down on the ladder and getting up and down off the floor when I was painting along the base edge. Ewww...the knees....!!!! They're telling me...hey...you're not really spry any more....!!! LOL

Hope the remainder of your weekend is Fan-Tab-U-Lous!!! SPARK ON! Gwen

The Gremlin Has Stuck!

Tuesday, November 09, 2010

The Gremlin has struck (AGAIN), and I am only getting a very few email notices from SparkPeople. I know this happens occasionally, and I know it will soon be back to business as usual, but for now, I sure miss the notices of new members, new messages, replys to messages, notices of goodies and comments on my SparkPage, invitations from new friends...Oh, I just miss it all.

It seems like that happens a little too often. They say patience is a virtue...
I guess I'm not very virtuous!

Yeah, I just got a bunch of new stuff. We just have to be patient. It's a bummer, but so is a lot of life.

I Almost Forgot...

Saturday, November 06, 2010

I Almost Forgot... to post my usual 'Have a Wonderful Weekend' blog!

I hope everyone is having a wonderful weekend. My day was not as busy as usual since one of my weekend jobs is closed for the remainder of fall and all of winter. I will have to find something to take the place of the job, but for now...I am FREE tonight!

Take care ALL, and best wishes in reaching all of your goals!

    Hi Pam,

If anyone deserves a FREE day...you do! So ENJOY it to the fullest!

I did heavy cleaning this a.m., got my walk in the early afternoon, and then "my schedule" was "bamboozled". I received several telephone calls and finally got off at 9:00 p.m.

That would be all good, except here it is 10:00 p.m. (EDT) and I only have 1/2 my calories in and I'm not hungry!

SPARK ON MY DEAR FRIEND! emoticon emoticon

Busy, Busier, Busiest!

Tuesday, November 02, 2010

The next two months are going to be very BUSY for many of us, but let's remember to stick with the SparkProgram and stay on the path to reaching our goals..
Even though the holiday are approaching, and we will be BUSIER than usual, we know that by drinking 8 glasses of water each day, exercising several times a week, and eating as healthy as possible, that we will feel better both physically and mentally.
During this BUSIEST time of the year, at least for me with Thanksgiving, Christmas, and just about everyone in my family having a November or December birthday, I know that I have my work cut out for me. I am going to HANG IN THERE, and continue to SPREAD THE SPARK!

Pam, this is the time to begin preparation for the holidays. We can't wait until those heavy meals and sugary desserts are staring us in the face.

I agree, It will be necessary to really watch and make sure that water is downed and the exercise is kept up. It helps me mentally be able to cope with the extra stress of the holidays. We have 4 November birthdays too.

Is It Or Is It NOT HALLOWEEN?

Sunday, October 31, 2010

This may go on everywhere, but it seems weird to me. I live in a small city that has three other very small cities nearby. Two of the cities celebrated Halloween today, and the other two will celebrate Halloween tomorrow. So all of the kids have the opportunity to 'Trick or Treat' on BOTH nights. I know Sunday is a school night and church night, but Halloween DOES fall on a Sunday this year. I know that Saturday is the best night for kids to be out and up late, but Halloween DOESN'T fall on Saturday this year. Whenever it is celebrated, I just wish all of those nearby would be celebrating it on the same night. Makes a lot more sense to me!

The trials and tribulations of aging in this ever changing world. We also never celebrated it on Sunday... due to holy day.

Hate to say it but I think there are a great deal of places where the Halloween will be celebrated on Saturday and Sunday. Celebrating on Saturday would make more sense to me since Sunday is a Holy day and Monday is a school day. emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

First Halloween is a contraction of All Hallow's Evening, the day before All Saints' Day. All Sains's Day is meant to honor all of the Christian faith who have died in the last year. The evening before is meant to be "preparation" for the day. It was also the night that centuries ago, Christians believed that ghosts were closer to this world than any other time. Children would dress up as ghosts and be placated with treats.
Trick or treat in our area became much more trick than treat at one point, with teens tipping over outhouses, etc. The city fathers (only fathers at that point) decided to make a "safe" night for the little kids and created Beggars' Night on the evening before Halloween. They also dictated that the hours of "begging" were 6:00-8:00!

Not sure where you live, but I'm in the Bible Belt, so not only are kids trick-or-treating on Saturday, but the churches are denouncing Halloween because they say it is "of the devil." It's a big mess. Halloween is my favorite holiday, so I've been celebrating since October 1st! LOL

I don't want them to celebrated it at all and doing it on Mon, Tues, Wed, Thurs, they seem to quit by 8:30. Here if they come Saturday they will be told not to night for I don't have even NO NO's to give out(candy). I'm retired and don't get the cost of living, but figured I will get two big bags of tootsie rolls and when they are gone the lights go out. I usually starts giving lot after 7:30 so by 8:00 lights are out. 500 treat of trickers is too many for me. Wishes us all the lots that no one gets hurts. emoticon
