Was so sad to see the devastation on the news, I believe it still continues. Christchurch was such a lovely city and it's hard to believe the Cathedral has been so badly damaged. Also the hotel we stayed in when we arrived is mortally wounded. My good wishes go out to you all and I know you will all bounce back eventually, it will seem like an impossible task but I'm sure you will all manage it somehow.

    Very very sad footage.
We are thinking of you here in Australia. Our friend had her 40th Birthday party last night and asked that instead of gifts we contribute to the Earthquake fund on the Red Cross website. It felt good to spend our money donating rather than on buying just another material thing.
We hope and pray that the money will help to ease the suffering of the people affected in Christchurch,
Our thoughts and prayers are with you,

Family safe after 2nd big Earthquake in Christchurch

Friday, February 25, 2011

I am very thankful that my family are all safe again this time. I opened and ran the Civil Defence sector post, but our little beach settlement was not so badly hit this time. We had more liqufaction and the house is leaning over a bit more, but we got water and power on fairly quickly.
Then today I did a shift in the Rangiora Welfare Center. We took 4 buses of people from the Cowles Stadium welfare center they closed down due to sanitation problems. It ws so sad to see these people file in with they have with them in plastic bags or in one case, a bucket.

I may have to fly to Auckland to work for a week or two as my work building is safe but has no sanitation.

All in all, emotionally we are all devastated, but we know we are the lucky ones, My heart goes out to the families of those who have been lost.

20th January - another significant Earthquake and aftershocks

Thursday, January 20, 2011

Just when we were trying to get back in control and I was tracking food etc, The first at 5.1 magnitude hit just after 6.00 am, the aftershocks really rattled me at work, but the one at lunchtime finally brought everthing to a head, and I fell apart and started crying , not so much scared as just all the stress and sorrow coming together. After trying to carry on working, they sent me home at 4.00pm but I was confort eating.
So one step backwards !
Today I have planned my food and I am not going to let Mother Nature get to me today !
I am lucky to have the bus to live in and I know one day I will have a new home, It would be nice to have some time frame, but in the meantime, I need to have control of something !

good morning Woolfemme emoticon it's not easy is it?! I have a tendency to look for chocolate after the quakes and aftershocks but have realised that a nice cup of tea (with a little sugar) does the trick and it does not present the danger of over indulging. I sit down and sip it very slowly and consciously and I talk to "Pachamama" (the peruvian, I believe, word for Mother Earth). I feel for you because you have been affected by the BigQ much more than we have.. I do hope that things will soon move forward for you so that you can settle down and snuggle into a safe and cosy home again.. we all deserve that. Am thinking of you emoticon
