Marine Corps 1/2 Marathon. Anyone running with me?

Sunday, May 13, 2012

Next Sunday I will be in Virginia to run the Marine Corps 1/2 Marathon. I am getting excited but worried about hills---since I have none here in Houston. Any of my fellow Sparkers going to be there? I would love to meet you! Let me know! And let me know about the hills...although too late now...

I am not planning on doing my first half marathon until November, but I wish you the best of luck. You're going to have an awesome time. And if you ever come out to Southern California, who knows, maybe we will run together!

My 150 day challenge

Friday, August 12, 2011

I joined a Spark Team last year "The 100 Day Challenge" inspired by SpunkyDucky. I exercised for 100 consecutive days, for at least 30 minutes each day last year. Earlier this year I decided to challenge myself a bit further. Last night I completed Day 150 of consecutive exercise. I was so pleased to accomplish my goal and thankful to be able to complete it. Most of the days were walking but some running, biking, swimming as well. My DH went walking with me quite frequently which was a nice bonus of time together. Both my boys also joined me on occasion. A great experience. So much of it was psychological--it can be hard to exercise after a long day at work!

I encourage you all to challenge yourselves in some way!

My next challenge will focus on running at least 3 days a week as I prepare for my first ever marathon!

Happy Weekend to all!

New meaning to "long" run

Saturday, May 14, 2011

I am so excited! Now, it may not sound like much to most people but I tried something different today. I have done many runs, I follow the run/walk method and I have been excercising consistently. Today I decided to try to run 2 miles without stopping. It seemed like a daunting task at first and at about 0.3 miles emoticon I was not sure I could do it. But I kept putting one foot in front of the other, made it to mile 1 and kept going. I DID run 2 miles without stopping and did not even feel like I was dying! I finished my 7 mile run with the run/walk method and felt on the top of the world! My run ended with Rascal Flats "Unstoppable"--perfect.

Houston Half Marathon

Sunday, January 30, 2011

I ran the Houston Half Marathon today. It was a good run for me, faster than my last few but not my fastest. Anyway, I was pleased. The weather was warm with a start temp in the low 60s, overcast with some rain. Much better than predicted, however, as there was a forecast of possible thunderstorms with a threat to running the race at all. The rain was mild and really a non-issue. We had been training for months and we didn't let a little rain get in our way! After I finished and got some food I went out to cheer in the marathoners. I loved running and I loved being there! Great day!

Realization

Sunday, January 09, 2011

I saw a friend today I hadn't seen in quite a while. Actually, we were running buddies for a time. We chatted a bit, getting caught up, and she asked me "are you still running?" I said yes. She called me "crazy"--I just shrugged and said "it''s habit now". I guess If we had time I could of said many more things about running, how much I enjoy it, how great it makes me feel, what a sense of accomplishment I get when I finish an event. We were interrupted and I did not get a chance to say more but the important thing was the realization I made for myself. Yes, running does provide me all those things and it is a habit. I would be so depressed if I could not get out and run or walk. After 6 years at this it is a good habit! and I have made some wonderful friends because of it!

Good for you, your friend maybe was just disappointed in herself that she has not kept it up, that's why she said that. Keep doing what makes you happy!! Running is a great habit to have!
